I want to add "A Beautiful Mind" - the moment when it all switches back to reality, and the main character isn't an agent working for the secret service decrypting enemy messages at all, he's just suffering schizophrenia. His "code-breaking" is deriving meaning where there is none from random things and his "secret drop box" is just the letter-box of some abandoned house.

There are two other things that made Howie the Perfect Sacrifice in the Wicker Man. Yes, he had the "Power of The King" (as a High Rank Police Officer), but he was also a Fool (he was easily fooled by ALL Summerisle Residents) and he was a Virgin. The chapter that reveals that on the DVD release was called "The Sacrificial Virgin". As for Keyser Söze, the twist is given away if you know Turkish. Söze translates as "Talkative", and what is another name for Talkative? Verbal.

So much that I watched multiple “fan theories” and the 3rd watch was even better. You know you’ve got a phenomenal film when you know the “twist” and it’s still open to a lot of interpretation. I know this is in movies not TV, but the Mr Robot twist where the architect realizes he's just another alter ego and has to let the real Elliot back in, not to mention the tragic reasons for such total disassociation, is not just well executed but so emotionally powerful!! It's unfortunate most people dropped off the final seasons and missed the revelations about what the whole show actually is because it's not just empty twists for shock value, it seeds and earns the payoff so thoroughly it's tough to understand how much work it took to design it over the years.

They won’t mention that because people assume the scene, thus the movie is transphobic. The character isn’t transgender because they never felt like they were actually a woman, they played the part to get what they wanted. Also the fact that he was a nut job disqualified him from being transgender, as explained in Silence of the Lambs, which the movie parodies. Side note, Buffalo Bill was also not transgender.

I’ll never forget it. Granted it was a lie of omission for Obi wan and Yoda not to tell Luke who his father was and good wordsmanship when Obi Wan says Vader killed Luke’s father but that’s all he and the audience knew- until this scene. The problem I had with The Others is that it seemed like the writers ran out of things to do. So, they bring the clearly-died-in-combat husband into the movie and that pretty much dilutes the entire reveal. That dude is definitely a ghost of some sort, which could only mean ... When the seance occurs and tells us Kidman is a ghost, I was sort of like, "Yeah, I know ... the husband already told us."

These days it feels like trailers will sell that twist for the chance at making money so you'll already know what's going to happen before you even go to the theater. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies as a story but I don't like that people want to make it into a creed.

I can say good list, but then you missed the original that created this script style. There was a John Wayne movie called The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, directed by John Ford and co starring James Stewart. A man who had his entire reputation and political career built off being the man who shot down a town bully outlaw named Liberty Valance, played admirably be Lee Marvin. It was during Kansas at the time trying to get statehood and Ransom Stoddard(James Stewart) being one if its first and founding politicians. As he tells the story of an old friend, the movie plays in flashback to the past mode, you find out his whole image is not what it seemed to be. Tom Doniphan, an anti hero, becomes a hero in a movie more sad than anything. It is one of the greatest scripts ever put to paper, and one of the original gotcha endings. Brilliant movie, completely wrong genre to try a twist, but it worked. Everything worked in that movie. If you look into it, that movie will be your new number 1 on that list.
