Enjoy!!! I can remember a time other than Army years that I didn’t have at least A dog. My wife and family and I have had had Rotties for the last 30 years. Best breed I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Oh, yeah, they do take up a lot of room lol.

This is a great topic for a video, very nice work. I spent a lot of time pondering this very issue last summer when I needed a new vehicle. My wife and I do road trips for our vacations because we're able to bring our dogs with (a 70lb aussie cattledog and a 165lb Newfoundland). Their space and comfort were a big consideration for me as I want my pups to be as comfortable as possible for a long drive while still getting a vehicle that I enjoy (sorry folks, I cannot drive a freakin' minivan). I wound up getting a Durango RT due to the space, the dual climate control and the six overhead vents in the rear half of the vehicle. We frequently drive down to Texas from Minnesota for our vacations and making sure the dogs are cool in hot weather is of course a major consideration. We've done 4 1500 mile (each way) road trips so far and it's been a great vehicle for the dogs. That being said, I would agree with most of the vehicles on this list being very good vehicles for your pups.

Great video. Never even thought about this topic but it really makes sense, especially for an active family that includes their dogs in their activities. 👍

The Chevy Suburban, Chevy Express Van or the GMC versions are tried and tested options. These have been used for decades, to haul family and dogs. Can seat 8 or more and still plenty of room for dog crates.

I am disabled and use a service dog AND a wheelchair (and it doesn’t exactly “fold” as much as it perhaps should). I upgraded from a Hyundai Accent hatchback (which actually worked fine, we were just cramped) to a hybrid Toyota Highlander. I get around the same gas milage because it’s a hybrid, and there’s room for the wheelchair, service dog but also room for my friends and even groceries/luggage/etc. I plan on getting a Great Dane for my next service dog (current is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever) and I think this car might have enough room for BOTH dogs, perhaps even in their kennels! Can’t say enough about the highlander and I’ve only got the 2007 version! 🤣

@@TheSuperi9 funny you replied to this, I just got my Dane puppy! I already had a 80 pound dog as my now retired service dog, so yes I have been on planes, trains and even ferries. Most places have specific disability seating which usually has more leg room. I always make sure I am upgraded to bulkhead seating on planes. It is, however, possible for dogs, even the size of Danes to “tuck” into smaller spaces by curling up. If it was really an issue I would buy a second seat, however most times if my dog is taking up some of the leg room of the person next to me I offer to readjust him and they always WANT my dog near them so lol.

This is a really good video! I have a GoldenDoodle/Retriever and he is just NOT comfortable in my (Now Former) Toyota Camry, So I decided to look for cars with my pup and he pointed to this video with his paw, So I watched it while he had a puplay-date with his best friend, Boots. So I watched and watched until I made the final decision of buying a 4Runner, As it is very expensive it was worth it, He now has a comfortable SUV where I sometimes toss him treats. Thank you so much for this video, It has made my dogs life very much better in cars.

Good job, but I would still consider the step-in height a dog might have to jump or climb up. If necessary, a foldable ramp makes sense. For city dwellers or bargain hunters I´m missing small cars, such as the Honda Fit.

I have a Mini-Goldendoodle 35 lbs. Not small enough to be constantly lifting up and out my CRV and not big enough to easily jump in and out of. So, the only vehicle on this list that I would consider is the Chrysler Pacifica due to the stow-and-go 2nd row which allows for my medium sized dog to easily jump in and out of with one of the 2nd row seats still up so he can have a safe place (with hammock) to watch outside. I totally miss the Honda Element (best dog car ever made) and the Honda HRV 2nd row magic seats that could flip up for my dog to easily jump into and out off and like the Pacifica one could just flip up one side of the 2nd row allowing for my dog to jump up on the other seat and with a hammock be safe and able to watch outside. I really don't want to purchase a vehicle as large as the Pacifica but car manufacturers are not longer very dog friendly.

Did your cargo space measurements ALWAYS include space when the rear space was folded or only sometimes? I ask because I felt like it went back and forth on measuring with and without seats down. I also looked at the Subaru outback and with seats up it did NOT have 75 sq ft of cargo space at all!!! I went by writeups of cars to check cargo space, plus visited showrooms and surprisingly the JEEP Grand Cherokee had one of the biggest measurements. Over 50 sq ft with all seats upright.

I gotta throw the Tesla model x in here. I get it, it’s crazy expensive. But, as a “no budget” option, it’s amazing. You can lower it for easy access… it has a dog mode on the climate… it’s the safest car on the planet. We were fortunate enough to be gifted one, and it was awesome for our Lab who was already a geriatric when we received the car. We could tell Lilly like it more than our previous cars cause she could stretch out in the back. Having said that…. As my family has grown to multiple children, it’s not the best family car. It’s okay. The Honda and Toyota minivans are a better option if you have more than 2 kids and a dog, IMO (we’re currently looking at minivans to replace our X 😂😂😂)… if you’re 1-2 kids plus a dog and you have a fairly substantial income, don’t rule it out.
