You can tell when Tom takes a ride in the VW it’s a genuine ride between different generations. Two people years apart enjoying the same hobby. That’s what cars are all about. Being young like boys featured in this episode and driving old cars, getting the respect from the older folks who grew up in the muscle car generation is what keeps me motivated.

My husband was in love with Land Rovers, we had 4 at one time, one we converted to a single cab, all of them were 88 series different years, sadly they are all gone now. Enjoy, loved them while we had them. If you own one, learn how to repair them.

I love the old VW's so I loved this episode! Back when my wife and I got married (a little over 50 years ago), she had a '67 Beetle and I had a '70. We always wanted a VW van but never could afford one back in the day. About a year or so ago we bought a '70 Beetle that we tow behind our motorhome. We love it and found that wherever we go with it, people always want to stop and talk to us about the Beetle and the Beetle's they owned in the past. I always enjoy those conversations.

These guys definitely have a 90s grunge vibe and have so many awesome vehicles, that lotus is worth really good money being a first edition with the Renault engine even if it is not such a powerful engine. It's great to see young people making full use of analogue car's in a digital age and it's guys like this that will keep these simple vehicles alive and I take my hat off to them for doing this.

I am 80 YO, we had a Whizzer motor on a regular bike frame, you had to drag your feet to stop, brakes were gone. Gas was 18 cents a gallon, we would find a glass pop bottle worth 2 cents, go to a gas station and buy 2 cents of gas, ride around all day. Late 1950's.

My favorite episode yet! Been playing with VW's since the mid 80's, and the VW crowd is full of great folks. Nice to see the next generation taking up the reins. And nice to see young folks knowing how to drive a stick shift car. I drive a 1968 single cab. The security system (joking) is parking it where you need to use reverse to get out. Very few folks younger than 50 know how to find reverse, and very few folks older than that are stealing cars.

I really enjoyed this episode because it dredged up fond VW memories. Me and two high school buddies worked as mechanics at the premier VW dealer in Seattle from 1969 and beyond. I had Bugs and two Busses. My first Type 2 was a '65 camper (without poptop) that had a bigger engine and 2-barrell carb; for a bus it was fast. I later owned a '78 passenger bus that was one of the best cars I have ever owned. By then the heaters were vastly improved which made them much more hospitable in the winter. I could go on and on with the stories.

Tom - many of us grew up with dads like you…that’s why. my Pontiac-worshipping Dad cranked the Beatles & ID’d every bad ass ride on the roads when I was coming up. he has 3 GTOs & a Vette these days. yeah, we love our tech, Mr KZread, but we also dig the absence of it on a carb’d V8 or side-drafting in-line coupé or flat-6 or whatever else we think is cool. we are bringing up the next group of dudes that will be out wrenching past bedtime to modify a perfectly good car and/or revive a dead one. Thanks for recognizing these dudes, Tom…they put their toys on the road, which IMO is more justified than having a warehouse/barn full of cars that remain hidden. Happy Hunting, Tom. you continue to inspire across many generations of us hopelessly inflicted car dudes.

Your gas story reminds me of something that happened when I was in high school in 1975. I had bought a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 and was driving my girlfriend home from school. She lived in a subdivision and at one of the stop signs I heard a loud clunk after starting to go through. At the next intersection I looked in the rear view and saw my gas tank in the middle of the road! I backed up, loaded the tank into the trunk and took her home another two blocks away. Then I drove home another quarter mile all with only the gas in the lines. I don't have either the car or the girl and don't ask me which one I would have back if given the choice.

This was a serious cool clip. Loved all involved. These guys did it right, sharing their hobby in close proximity so they can support each other. Very cool. Makes me want to take my old Merc for a spin.

Please keep putting these out! Love seeing these genuine videos. I have been watching for last couple years and always look forward to seeing one of Tom’s adventures. So awesome to see people that enjoy the classic and retro car community also.

Great video, I grew up as a teenager hanging out with neighbors that had large garage where we would gather and wrench on cars, some of the best memories, watching this takes me back!

Thanks Tom. Outstanding episode! I lost count of VW's I've owned at 40 of them. Still have a '74 standard Beetle and '68 Karmann Ghia.

Nice groupe of young men. Safe Travels to each of you. Loved the High School story, Tom. I took a girl on a date to the movies, and McDonald's about that time, for $2.87. Her Mom used to call me, "The Big Spender". lol!
