10 Baby Care Skills Every New Parent Should Learn

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

As much as a newborn brings joy, it brings an equal amount of responsibility as well. New parents usually go through a bumpy ride when taking care of a baby, which involves issues like lack of sleep, soothing the baby, and feeding. Take, for example, changing diapers. It’s not the most complicated thing in the world: you wanna remove the soiled diaper and put a fresh clean one in its place. But there are some important things to remember.
Or maybe you think that taking a baby out of the tub is so easy? But a baby’s skin is super soft, and it can get really slippery after a bath. That’s why it’s extremely important that you be extra careful while doing that. So be ready for drastic changes in your lifestyle and remember that the first giggle of your little one makes the struggles you go through worth it. Here's a list of things that can be beneficial for new parents

SUMMARY:
- Try to keep the room lit up during the day and dim the lights at night. This will help your little one understand the difference between daytime and night.
- Synching your sleep cycle with your baby’s will help you get enough rest so that you’re fresh and full of energy when you’re awake.
- Swaddling is actually really important because it makes the baby feel safe and secure. That way, they’ll feel more relaxed and will fall asleep quicker.
- When holding a baby, you must make sure that their neck is supported. You can do that by either cradling the baby in your arms or keeping one of your hands under their head. This is because a newborn’s neck muscles are too weak to hold the head up, so you kinda have to help them out with that!
- The most important thing to remember about the clamped umbilical cord (or stump) is that it should always be clean and dry. So, until the cord shrivels up and falls off, which might take two weeks or so, the baby should only be given sponge baths.
- Babies don’t need baths every single day. Otherwise, their silky soft skin can get dried out and irritated. Most doctors recommend doing it about 3 times a week until your little tyke starts moving more on their own.
- You should also be careful with the umbilical cord stump when changing diapers. Make sure the diaper doesn’t go up past the umbilical cord if it hasn’t fallen off yet. Some diapers for newborns have a cutout around the belly-button area to avoid irritation.
- Don’t assume that baby bottles always need to be warmed up like you see in the movies. And if you do decide to serve it warm, never use a microwave - it can create hotspots that you might not catch while testing it on your wrist.
- Who doesn’t like a good massage? All you have to do is lay your baby on a towel that’s placed on a comfortable surface like a bed. Always massage using a vegetable-based oil.
- Bonding will be different for everyone, but the goal is the same: to establish a strong connection between the baby and its parents. This process should start as soon as the baby’s born. All it takes in the beginning is gentle skin-to-skin touch.

The first 30 days are the most crucial. As much as you think you are going through, so is the baby who is seeing the world for the very first time. At this time, it is important that the mother takes good care of herself so that she can take care of the child in the best possible way.🤰👍👶💞

1.The sleepless nights won't last forever. 2.Enjoy every moment because they dont stay little for very long. 3. If you need help ask for it. Parenting can be overwhelming and you shouldn't be afraid to ask for a few minutes to catch your breath. 4. You're going to scew up inevitably and that's okay, there is no perfect parent. 5. Take lots of pictures 6. You'll get plenty of advice (solicited as well as unsolicited) people mean well but ultimately you'll have to trust your instincts in knowing what's best for your little one(s). You dont have to agree with all of it, just say thank you and move on. 7. No matter how much you read or think you know you'll always learn something new because every baby is different Best of luck with your little one(s) ! 🐻 Mom of 4 & still learning 💜💙💜💙

I slept when the baby slept. I got more sleep, I was less tired. Sometimes that meant I did laundry at 2 am and I was okay with that because I was well rested because I had slept earlier in the day with my son. I was happy and well rested and so was the baby and my house was clean.

I spent my whole like taking care of other people/kids around the clock. but now I'm expecting to be a mother in 4 months.... and was wondering is it really that bad if you don't get to your chores/responsibilities right away?

This sounds like a dream come true, however, my 6 week old is really fussy and hates to be put down, he wants to be held right now, so it’s literally impossible for me to get anything done. When he sleeps I try to do as much as I can do. I’ve tried everything under the sun, like placing him in a rocker or using the carry slings but nothing works. So if anyone else is the same, it’s okay! Right now I’m just enjoying the cuddles and the cries because soon it’ll all be over! ❤️

I love that the first point they made was the lighting issue and their sleeping habits. I’ve seen a lot of vlog type families complaining late at night about how their babies won’t sleep well- as they sit in a completely lit room as if it isn’t the middle of the night O__o I dunno. A baby and their sleep can keep a new mother sane. And it’s more simple than some think. My tip is to completely darken the room when your baby is sleeping. I don’t care if your friends or family look at you like you’re crazy for turning your sweet baby room into a dark dungeon every time they sleep- it helps more than you’d think. I’ve had multiple newborns sleeping like freaking champs because of my baby sleep whispering skills. Kinda went on a baby sleeping rant but it’s truly what made the newborn phase with my daughter worth while, everyone sleeping good. Get a little bit of white noise going so you can wake up in the morning without waking them up too, and be sure that the light doesn’t seep into the room until they’re awake! These couple simple steps will change your sleep life with your baby.

‘Sleep when the baby sleeps’ - god I hate this advice. It’s so idealistic. So no cooking, housework, cleaning etc. I have twins and have never been able to sleep when they sleep - at night yes, but during the day? No. I have a ton of responsibilities. I’ve yet to find a mother who does sleep when the baby sleeps.

When you are mentally and emotionally stable, you have common sense, your an adult, your financially stable, you are willing to sacrifice, you are ready to provide 24/7 nurturing love and care, when you an unlimited amount of patience, you yourself are a good role model, you have a secure safe home, that you are educated, that you know your child ALWAYS comes first and before anything, when you realize that having a child is a life long job even after your child grows up!

My son just turned a year old and I still have a thing about covering his belly button after diaper changes... even though the umbilical cord stump is long gone, I feel like it will smell or something if I constantly keep it covered😂😂😂 oh and one thing they didn't mention is to not let the TV babysit, my son was 3 months old when he started getting interested in the TV and I must admit that there are times I let him watch way too much of his baby shows while I was getting things done, I'm doing better with it now, try reading, singing, playing baby games, or just having a full blown conversation with them, your baby will absorb alot more that way than staring at a screen for hours on end.

Enjoy being pregnant, once they are here it's sleepless nights and it's not easy AT ALL.

Angela Zunguza I know both of my sisters had babies at a young age they lived with us. wasn’t fun but with all the cute faces and hugs it was worth it.
