I was a Chromecast user for years and finally got an Apple TV on Sunday. The difference is mind blowing and totally worth the $

You can change the keyboard style to a grid. It's very convenient.

Another great video Craig. 😊 The Up Next feature is great, but I usually just ask Siri to play whatever it is I want to watch, same goes for music. The iPhone remote control is nice because it has a 10 second skip ahead and back. Sometimes my AirPods connect automatically, but usually I just hit the Home button and they connect with no issues. AirPlay works great. Spatial audio sounds amazing. I love the Apple Ecosystem.

Thank you for sharing all your thoughts and tips. That is great. I would use Siri, but I do find that Apple TV can suck and open shows in the wrong service. I pay for commercial free Discovery+, then at time will launch a show I was watching and it will open it on Hulu with commercials. Or send me to Bravo instead of Hulu.

After having accidentally pressed buy now, one of those cute little black boxes is on the way and this really help me get on the ball of how to start up with it. Thank you. Also my finger slipped and hit the subscribe button. This phone screen is so slippery I even ended up hitting like, oops! 😂🎉

Nice! I'm liking the Apple TV as a way to simplify my TV setup. I did not know some of these tips and I try to pay attention when they make software updates. Next step for me is to replace my very old sound bar with some HomePods. I'm not an audiophile, but my current setup seems to have muffled dialog. I don't know enough about the hardware/software settings to figure out where to make changes, so I'm hoping that stereo HomePods will just work without me needing to take a sound engineering class.

Thank you very much. The simple interface and nice clean apps are great on the Apple TV. I use two HomePods for my Office TV. They sound so good. There is on setting you would have to change if you want other devices to use the HomePods. Just make sure that E arc is opened and your Apple TV is plugged into the HDMI Arc port on your TV. Once that is turned on, anything plugged into your TV will play sound out of the HomePods.

In Tip No. 5, could you please explain how to get to Voice Recognition in Settings?

Will have to watch this video more later but is there a way to push the i-tunes store all the way to the button or even hide it? I do not like seeing items to buy right away. It reminds be of the Amazon Fire which i loathe.

That Frozen thing happens to me as well. I ended up creating another Apple account and adding it to my family account to use with authorizing Apple Music on Echo devices. It was 7 steps too many… but at least it protects my music recommendations.

Im new to apple tv, do i need to subscribe at apple tv apps to use apple tv? i only watch at netflix paramount hbo max, is a gift for me never used any streaming device and do u have a video setting tips thank you .

It’s good that you can reconfigure the remote buttons, this should be something available on all remote based streaming devices

Hey Gareth, hope you are doing well. I am with you on being able to customize these buttons. It is nice that you can turn off the touch controls on the movements buttons. My mother in law would drag her fingers on the buttons and trigger things.

i love my apple tv 4k box but i really hate the remote it to touchy and i think its not a good remote but other than that i love apple tv. i gets really frusterating also to have to confirm purchases on another apple device. but it was a great video to watch

I’m going to get an Apple TV soon!

For me I get the notification about using my iphone as a keybord, but then it asks what device I should use (my TV, my ”Livingroom” etc).. and the keyobard never comes up. Really frustrating when you really long email addresses and passwords. And I dont think Siri is of any help there either.

@@CraigsTechTalk maybe go over how to set up the remote to work with the receiver. I had to hard reset my remote for the process to work. Found the work around on Reddit.

Still watching the video, but one thing is: you can change de keyboard layout on Apple TV from linear to grid, which makes typing way more easier.

Is there a way to bypass an app specific “choose profile” screen when selecting a show from Up Next? Example - “Succession” is in my Up Next line up. But when I choose it there, it goes to the Max profiles page first and I have to select my profile before the show will play.

Unfortunately not. I think it is about the individual apps not allowing a default user. Apple doesn’t have any settings. I wish I could set each app. My wife doesn’t use certain ones and it’s annoying.

Great review. Tempting me to get one. Would you recommend getting the Ethernet port version?

Thank you. 🙏 Sorry for tempting you. I like having the Ethernet to pull traffic off of WiFi. But if you don’t have an Ethernet close, WiFi works great. You also get the thread router in the WiFi for smart home devices.

3:10 I believe the TV button by default redirects you to the TV app now. I just purchased an apple TV and switched it to Home Screen instead.

What is the life of the apple tv remote as the batteries are non replaceable? will the TV be useless without the remote? Also will all features work with a monitor, specially volume control?

I have had many for years. The batteries are great. I charge maybe twice a year. Plus, you can buy another remote and pair.

I purchased Netflix and Hulu before I got my Apple TV. Is there a way to transfer my accounts to be managed in Apple TV so they are all together and easy to renew?

I don’t think you can switch them. I think you have to start a new account. Part of that is how Apple gets their money going through them. I was checking. This doesn’t do what you want, but gives some information about differences if you subscribe to Hulu through Apple TV. help.hulu.com/s/article/manage-apple

No you can’t. Apple TV wouldn’t be the company to help you with apps like that. Fire TV sticks might have an app you can side load.

No you do not have to pay for any subscription for the box. It is confusing, you have Apple TV the device and separately Apple TV+, the service. You would only have to pay for the services you subscribe to and download the apps on to the Apple TV

I just got 3 Apple TVs for the family. If they are titled for each person will Up Next reflect that person’s viewing?

The way to have each person viewing is to setup up a profile for each. For my kids I setup iCloud emails a long time ago. Then the Up Next will sync across each persons devices.

I wish we could select the Apple TV we want as the default Home Hub. Home always switches to my older Apple TV (non-Thread Wi-Fi) instead of the new Apple TV with Thread (hard wired). Makes no sense.

Me too. It is weird you have no control with the choices the devices make. It is odd to yours chose WiFi over hardwired. Have you tried to force it to change by powering down the old one?

Hard to justify the price since chromecast works fine. I know this is much smoother en faster but still😭

You can change the keyboard from that Linear one long line to grid format. General > Keyboard Layout > Grid

Hey Craig, maybe you can shed some light on this. I can't get the "recognize my voice" feature to activate on my Apple TV (any generation). It turns on with no problem for my iPhon 12 Pro Max in the home app for my user, but after confirming on the Apple TV, it just sits at syncing with iCloud and never activates. Both devices have 16.4.1, and the Apple TV is the 3rd Gen 4k. I usually have to do a factory reset on the Apple TV, to get "recognize my voice" to turn back off, since I can't get it to turn on. The only thing I could think of, is my iMac, and iPad are too old for the latest versions of their os, but I've seen nothing to show that would impact the feature on supported devices, in this case the Phone, and Apple TV, which have the current OS.

16.4.2 is the version that introduced recognize my voice. That came out in December. Your phone should be good with it. If your Apple TV can do 16.4.2, recognize should work

@@CraigsTechTalk Craig, you're a bit reversed here. 16.2 is what introduced the feature, I have 16.4.1, which is the latest public release, and as I mentioned I can't get recognize to turn on, on the Apple TV, but it works on the phone.

My apologies, that was a typo I repeated. You are right. I meant 16.3.2. I got the 16 and the 2 right. With you being on 16.4.1 it should work fine. Your phone is what determines if personal request works in a room. I don’t see your older devices causing a problem. They wouldn’t be able to utilize the feature. But your Apple TV should be fine. Just throwing it out there, just to confirm both the Apple TV and your other devices are using your iCloud account. If you are under your iCloud account on the Apple TV, personal request should work. I am baffled. I have it working on the 2021 & 2022 models fine. I haven’t tried it on the prior years yet.

I have both the first and second generations of the Apple 4K. Expected so much more. Nvidia shield looks better, Amazon .Fire TV Max looks a good. Why pay more, an an Apple Logo?

It really only makes sense if someone is heavily invested into the apple ecosystem. The integration is seamless and nice to have.

I purchased a new Apple TV due to not being able to use the volume control on my Apple TV remote ~ I have a Sonos Arc for my TV. When I installed the new Apple TV it worked fine then it just stopped working. I have inquired at Apple, but they cannot answer the question. ???? Please Help

I would take a look under setting and look at the remote settings. The default is set to auto for volume control. I am wondering if that needs to be changed. I have had good success with TVs and haven’t run into this.

I enjoyed mine until I upgraded to an LG OLED C2 television and discovered ATV is incompatible with it. If anyone has a solution I would love to hear it. The TV will not recognize the HDMI input.

Make sure CEC control is turned on for your TV and make sure your remote settings are set to auto or for your TV.
