Thank you so much for the sub and comments, really appreciated. Sea Shanties is absolutely killer, just about as heavy as 1969 got. Issued in UK and US as well as re-issues over the years. Happy hunting for it 🙂

Great, George, that addition allows us to get straight to your channel. The Nice were prog rock, and Keith Emerson went on to Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Interesting list of some records I have never seen in the U.S. The only one I own is Quatermass and it is in my top 20. Off the top of my head I would add Arthur Browns Kingdom Come, Steamhammer Speech and its cousin Armageddon.

Thanks for the video. Some other really interesting underground ( or semi- underground) progressive bands worth mentioning: Khan (with S. Hillage/ D. Stewart), Dr. Z, Raw Material, Cressida, Pulsar, Spring... I haven't heard all the albums you presented, only some of them. You're right that they deserve more attention. For example, High Tide's albums ( especially the first) were certainly groundbreaking. I love Hawkwind ( and almost anything related to them), so I learned about High Tide because of S. House. Unfortunately, many other people haven't heard of them.

Very interesting set of records there George. I have none of them myself, but I was impressed with the Big Sleep album as I'm always looking out for Prog with a Welsh connection, though maybe that is what makes it so depressing :-). I came home from a carboot sale this weekend with a copy of Mighty Baby by Mighty Baby. I'd never heard of them before so it was a bit of a punt. I payed three quid for it. I also picked up a copy of the Thank Christ For The Bomb by the Groundhogs from the same seller, also three quid. Together with a copy of the roots reggae album Sufferer by the The Kingstonians on the Trojan label it turned out to be not a bad day's record shopping. I look forward to your next 10. Cheers

Hi George, I also love Jackson Heights - Bump 'n Grind, great vocals! I think all four of their albums are superb and obscure and not many really seem to know about them. Only King's Progress was ever released here in the States on vinyl. I also have the Fandangos In Space album on Regal Zonophone, but haven't ever really given it a chance. Now I will. I'm going to listen to the Big Sleep - Bluebell Wood album, thanks for the suggestion. Nice video!

At this moment, I have in my collection two of these, High Tide's "Sea Shanties" and Affinity's same-titled one, both on proper reissues. Living in Greece, these are almost impossible to be found here as original UK copies (although a close old pal does own this exact German copy of "Affinity" on the Vertigo label). The High Tide's "Sea Shanties" is one of the best records I have ever heard in my life! Nevertheless, I wouldn't call it a typical prog album. To me, it belongs more to the "heavy-psych" subgenre of the day (even proto-metal stuff). Tony Hill was the lead guitarist of another pioneering UK psych/beat band named the Misunderstood (before the High Tide), which had only a handful of singles issued ("I Can Take You To The Sun" being their finest effort). The "Sea Shanties" album was reissued in the US Sundazed label in a top-quality reissue (circa 2009). The Misunderstood material can be found on Cherry Red's 1983 compilation "Before the Dream Faded', for those who wish to hear some earlier guitar pyrotechnics by Tony Hill. High Tide's second self-titled album is also very strong (and heavy), yet the songwriting is somewhat less inspired - nevertheless, it is also recommended. I came in touch with the 'Affinity" album just recently and I was totally captivated by Linda Hoyle's vocals and the musical aura of the record, which carries many jazz elements along its prog-rock nature of sound (and yes, this cover of "All Along the Watchtower" is superb, indeed - it matches Hendrix's notorious one!). IMO, the best reissue of the "Affinity" LP is a 1997 vinyl reissue on the Psygressive label, with a strong, punchy, and clear sound, the complete artwork of the gatefold cover, and two bonus tracks, as well. I would also recommend strongly the self-titled one-and-done album by Indian Summer, of 1971 (these guys shared the same manager with Black Sabbath!). This a top-prog-rock album and a strong recommendation to the channel and to every prog-rock fan around - check it out!

@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934 You are welcome. Just adding some detail: I happen to own a US-original vinyl copy of the "Indian Summer" LP,. The album was issued on a somewhat new kind of vinyl back then by RCA, called the Dynaflex vinyl, which is thinner than what it used to be back then. Whether they were preparing for the imminent oil crisis of '73 I cannot tell (ha, ha!); despite that, it delivers a good, warm sound (on my mediocre system), fully enjoyable (although I suspect that it doesn't match a UK-original copy). I'd recommend this issue since it carries a lower price tag than the UK one (the UK originals are mostly out of my price range). Keep up the good work!

Hi Mike. A bit of a difficult question - I think UK pressing are 'regarded' as more superior for some reason. It's been like this for years. In my honest opinion though, German, Dutch, French and Italian pressings are no worse and as good quality. If you are after originals, they are often as good as UK and can be obtained for a much lower price.
