10.1 Intermolecular Forces | High School Chemistry

Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on Intermolecular Forces including hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole forces, London dispersion forces, and ion-dipole forces. He explains their relative strengths and how they affect the bulk properties of a liquid including boiling point, enthalpy of vaporization, viscosity, surface tension, and vapor pressure. Chad then moves on to discussing the plot of vapor pressure vs temperature for a liquid and how to use it to identify a liquid's boiling point. He then concludes the lesson by showing how intermolecular forces are responsible for adhesion, cohesion, and capillary action, concepts that all have biological relevance.

18:59 there is also surface compression, when you cliff jump, you don’t want calm water as it will hurt more or break bones…so you throw a rock or have someone disturb the water as you hit. Seems like same principle at work

Hey there! Are we talking about surface tension (compression would occur at depth rather than the surface) - in which case yes, disturbing the water or jumping into warmer water does lessen some of the impact and is often used by Olympic divers in practice! But from any great height the rapid deceleration on impact would be the most painful, with surface tension adding a little extra pain :)

1:30 “Male and female he created them”, (in His image) , same principle , masculine/feminine, charge/discharge, “Creation displays his invisible eternal attributes so everyone is without excuse”. The deeper you look the more you see.
