I'm trading my 10th Gen Civic (6MT with K20C2 engine) for a Elantra N. If Si had the same engine, I'd probably get it. I have no respect for the 1.5T engine when compared to the regular K20 engine. Granted, I like Honda's 11th Si over 10th Si, but I still think it's not more capable then my base 2017 Civic Sedan, which weights 2700lb. Since Type-R is basically made for Japan (low availability in North America), I'm switching from Japanese made (my last 8 new cars were Japanese made) and going with the Koreans. Sucks that 11th Si has an engine that only the bean counters would love (or aftermarket that likes to blow-up their engine).

@@officialyasir Eh, I’ve had my fair share of nicer/faster cars (Porsche Boxster, 3 series, 135i, Lexus RC, WRX, Z, lots of others and numerous project cars.) The SI for me is good solid fun. Great daily utility, quick street handling, great shifter and pedal set up, great mileage, and relatively cheap. There is something fun about flogging a cheaper car. It’s like this much fun shouldn’t be so cheap. :)

I have over 10k on my 2022 Civic Si and really like it. I’ve actually grown to like it more as I’ve used it. It isn’t about the power for me. It’s about having no utilitarian downside as a daily driver but adding fun factor that isn’t there with most cars. Wife sitting next to me surfing her phone, kids in the back, and I get to enjoy rowing through the tight 6 speed, whip around tight roads, and rev the little 1.5L through its range while still getting around 40mpg. I think the argument that it should completely split the difference between a normal Civic and the Type R isn’t solid reasoning because the price difference is only a few thousand above a normal civic while the Type R is a $10k+ premium over an SI. When taking cost into consideration, the SI sits perfectly between the normal Civic and the Type R. I’m happy with the power it makes especially since more power typically means worse mileage. It strikes a nice balance there.

Sucks how easy it becomes to lug/stall the engine with the Turbo interfering with initial take-up. Much more easy to daily a NA version of the Civic manual. I want to like this car but it just doesn’t excite me. I had a 2009 Si and the fact that this car isn’t any faster is ridiculous. They should have 240hp in this thing by now. And the problem is the L15 is a weak motor and really can’t be reliably pushed much past stock without making windows in the block either, so simple bolt-ons and a tune isn’t gonna work for the long run either. So it’s basically keep it stock and a little bland but reliable or get a Type R. There really isn’t much other options, and that’s what sucks the most.

The car really needs a tune from the factory. Every decision honda made for tuning this engine is for fuel economy. It's not a very "sport injected" engine. Rev hang, built in turbo lag to save connecting rods, idle start stop. Being a small engine requires boost in every gear to keep up with the flow of other cars. It's a frustrating car to daily in traffic. I ended up trading mine after a year of ownership and besides the handling I don't miss it.

The rev hang is very noticeable compared to my last 2 manual transmission cars. It varies depending on rpm, throttle percentage, and how early you lift off the throttle before shifting. The engine tuning is the most annoying part of the car. The rev hang is gone if you lift off the throttle completely for a half second before shifting but makes for a jarring experience.

They’re right: it’s all about expectations. I own a ‘23. Si owners (as well as other drivers) expect this car to be driven hard and fast. I bought it mainly for the six-speed but I’ve noticed that in order to keep up with traffic the car HAS to be driven hard; something I wasn’t expecting. If it had just a little more power it could be driven normally and the entire experience would be more enjoyable. I still love the car a lot, but I’m altering my driving habits to use it primarily on the freeway along with winding roads out of town.

Agreed. Between being in boost every gear to keep with traffic and the rev hang its a frustrating experience to what potential it has. I wish they did what subaru did with the wrx. More power from the engine and less from the turbo. Would help with rev hang and drivability immensely. It's also frustrating when a sport sedan is getting pulled on by a cuv or minivan on a freeway on ramp and you're banging through gears. 😂

Thanks Brian for another unbiased and honest car review. Always knew this gen Civic Si was lame, and anyone buying it over the really capable Civic Sport HB manual is an idiot.

I'm sorry, 9 months and 10,000 miles isn't long term to me. This might be a good review for people who lease their vehicles and swap them every 2 years. I tend to keep mine for 10+ years. So this review is useless for me.

@R Mc obviously can't do a 10-year smart ass, but 10,000 miles is nothing, most people do that in 6-7 months. 2 or 3 year would be better for a title called "long term" you can do 10,000 miles but don't call it "long term."

0-60 in 7.2 sec is totally unacceptable. That's very very slow .
