10,000 Hours of FFXIV | How It Feels Now

Ойындар

After 10,000 Hours of gameplay i put together a video covering my thoughts on the game. I dont know who reads this but i actually love Asmongold, I really wish he would play some more FFXIV, and I feel like im still waiting for his final thoughts after a full playthrough.
I would like to thank ChewieMelodies for allowing me to use his Endwalker Sountrack Cover here is a link to his youtube page - / @chewiemelodies
This is my first video game review and I would love to do more, let me know what you guys think in the comments and especially let me know if you want me to cover in detail certain aspects of FFXIV.

I have precisely the opposite problem. Because the net code, lag and animation behaviors are so poor, I feel like I am not my character but instead someone shouting orders down the corridor to my character. Compared to how smooth and responsive wow is its really Jarring

I arrived as a WoW refugee to FF14, and it really opened my eyes to how poorly the devs at WoW treat their players. FF14 may not be flawless, but at least I've never felt in this game that the devs are actively mocking me and only after my money.

Asmongold played FFXIV because it was trending. His chat had suggested he check it out before that, but he wasn't interested. Not until the YT algorithm said he should be. As soon as XIV stopped trending, suddenly other games - all of which just happened to be trending at the time - became his priority. All the while, he was saying he'd go back to FFXIV... just to keep those fans waiting for him to on the line. Now that he no longer has to pretend to like FFXIV, he's back to bashing its graphics, combat, etc. And it wasn't only Asmon. It was rather eye-opening to me to see how many larger creators are just as much slaves to the algorithm. Any time a new release comes out, I see the same big names streaming them, pretending to enjoy them... until the algorithm says it's time to move on... then they're pretending to enjoy the next big thing. It's pretty gross.

I think you are right. Im not upset at them for it. In the end youtube is how those guys take care of their financial needs. He only started it because it was trending, but I don't think that's the only reason he kept playing it. After his mom died he was still playing it on his secondary non-monetized stream while he was taking a break from things, which the algorithm wouldn't have picked up, when he felt like it. Given, that's now become his main channel anyway, but at the time he was still going for the channel separation, so I think the point stands. I think that well's been sufficiently poisoned by the community weirdness about it though, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him never come back to it regardless.

I really appreciate that this game allows you to play at your own pace with little to no FOMO. It's made me enjoy that game so much more especially because I don't really have as much time for gaming as I used to. I remember last year getting back into Call of Duty briefly and was annoyed at how much stuff goes away after a certain period of time, so I found myself playing it just because I didn't want to miss out rather than because I wanted to play it. I stopped playing pretty quickly afterwards.

I've never cared that much about games where you create your own character, but something about this game really does make me feel like I am him, and it's just made me more invested in the story, gameplay, etc. There are so many moments in the story that are even more powerful because it feels like the characters are speaking to *you* directly, like *you* are a part of the world

It was super hard for me to get into this game. Like, it took me 3 tries, spread out over 6 years. And even then, I wouldn't have stuck with it long enough if not for a friend standing behind me, pushing, the whole way through ARR. And then...It finally clicked. I fell in love, truly, madly, deeply. Best MMO I've ever played, and I've been playing them for 17 years. I wish I could convince more friends to give it a go. The one I did coax over, though, also fell in love.

I’ve always been a WoW guy, played it since I was super young but something keeps nagging me in the back of my head about FFXIV that I WILL love this game, but I keep bouncing off of it. Im just really not enjoying wow these days and I hate the new direction of wows art style and story telling. I’m going to sit down, FORCE myself to read all the dialogue this time and take it slow, pay attention to the story and not stop until I at least beat heavensward and restock on how I feel then. This game makes it feel like I have something just on the tip of my tongue, like if I can change my mindset a fraction I will be hooked for life. I really think the line about actually FEELING like your character is a hint. Like if I could get in the mindset of role play and hit that immersion, that’s what will do it.

Videos like this make me all teary eyed haha. I have played this game for about a year and a few months, but the way I was brought in was thanks to a friend of mine. The great thing was being with the FC and having a Friend hype me up for the story. He had me stay true to the story as well as quest and learning my job role (Tank). From then on, I joined the FC and met a bunch of amazing people The only thing that did bum me out was the huge time difference. Often I can only see or play with them on my days off or if I completely change my schedule around. Of course one of my friends recommended I try my hand on the NA servers this time and see if I’ll like it. I was scared yes no doubt lol, but I love it. The friends and family I have now has been the best and truly wonderful overall❤️ This game changed my perspective on games based on story and more. I think what really had me the happiest was when catching up and being part of the journey to see Dawntrail reveal with everyone. I felt the hype and I felt what it was like being in a huge community of wonderful people to share it all with

Ive been into mmos since I was 10 as well. I'm 27 now. Because I could only afford to play F2P titles, my experience was a bit all over the place with obscure korean titles (Angels Online, Pirates Online, LaTale etc) to sometimes popular titles (FlyFF, Aion). When FFXIV hit the heavensward expansion, I did everything I could to get my hands on a better laptop and to have enough money to get into it (i love flying in games + AST). Ever since then, I fell in love with the game. Never in my life have I kept playing a single MMO for so long. The class change system is, I think, where it got me. Before FFXIV, i used to keep creating new characters because every other class seemed too cool to not play, so my progression was whack. FFXIV embraced this peculiar thing of mine and I appreciated it A LOT. There are some limitations going on with the tech of the game at times (glam system, housing), but overall, it never bothers my immersion. Sometimes I take strolls through the newbie areas just because it feels so right. FFXIV for me, helped me improve my IRL as well, what I lack IRL (sense of adventure and community pushing through heavy challenges), and it inspired my therapy sessions to try to explore ways I can recreate this feeling IRL as well. I'm hoping this summer I can find a group to hike with or go mountain biking through rural places. Anyways, FFXIV is a game I really like :D, and every patch I am still as excited about it as ever, which is rare to find, in my opinion.

FF14 was my first return to MMOs ever since the Mid-2000s burned me out, and over the past 2 years I've been playing I've fallen in love with it. My character is me! I've had so much fun playing the game that by the time I beat Endwalker I had it listed as my favorite game of all time. No other game's story had ever moved me to cry as much as it did. I am taken a bit of a break right now, but then I'll make sure to finish the Patch content and try out some raiding while waiting for Dawntrail.

As a FF fan since the SNES, I felt compelled to play through it for the story. I tried it with the 1.0 version and it was so incredibly bad, so I actively shut down FF14 as a whole in my brain. I had tons of people praising the re-release and then the xpacs and I tried it one more time at the end of Stormblood's lifecycle. The ARR story and gameplay was still so bad and unfun and I was really really close to putting it down again. After arriving at Heavensward, you could feel the game trying a fresh approach, a much smaller gameworld (thank god) and a more "directed" story. I actually enjoyed the story and the characters though and the same did go for Stormblood. Story, music and atmosphere were there, although they are not on the "grand" classic FF scale. Just a neat little jrpg story, mostly presented in some kind of cheap visual novel style, to enjoy, while you're bored. I always stopped playing after the story though. I hated the gearing system (all templates and normalized content in an RPG? lol), crafting and much more on the gameplay side of things. So, yea, to this day I buy the expansions at the end of their lifecycle, log in for a few weeks to enjoy the solo story experience and sweep it under the rug again and it took me a while to realize that this is actually a very good design aspect by itself. I don't HAVE to play the MMO part, I really just can experience the new story chapters and move on having my fill.

After 5 years of playing XIV, having around 6 000 hours on my main, I agree for most of the video. It's a wonderful game that can change lives. It rightfully deserves its praise. I'd recommend it to any MMO lover. Another bonus is that people who prefer singleplayer can be eased into it thanks to duty support. Anyway, I was on a happy cloud for years until around a year go... here's why: 1) The gearing system is a miss if you play multiple jobs. If you play only one job, then yes you can catch up extremely easily. But if you dare play more than 3, you're screwed with the weekly limit and doesn't motivate you to play as much. For a game where you can play all jobs on the same character-which is utterly awesome- it greatly contradicts this availability by not being able to gear all your jobs equally. 2) The graphics are beautiful, even if outdated. Actually, being outdated slightly makes it accessible. Once Dawntrail launches with the graphic update, I won't be able to play anymore, and so will many others I've seen on social media. 3) YoshiP does love to say XIV is an MMO where you can have breaks and play other games without pressure to stay subbed, but this comment gets contradicted with multiple things, like the PVP series rewards vanishing forever with no way of getting them ever again once it's over. There's housing too, you have to keep a sub to enter your own house to be able to keep it, with no nuance if you're unable to sub for IRL reasons or if you simply left the game. I'm still happy to play from time to time, but it's just not the same anymore with the "honeymoon phase" being gone. I guess the thing that doesn't help is that I have no one to play with. I've made 2-3 groups of friends over the years, none of them stuck. Having people to play with would definitely help but...yeah.

Some have given it a go but none have even made it past level 30 despite my best efforts. I’ll never understand this as the game absolutely had me enamored from the start. I keep having breaks from 14 to play GW2, SWTOR, Wow, Rift, ArcheAge, ESO etc etc and FFXIV remains the best MMO I have ever played. Personally I think it's amazing and none of the games I mentioned even come close. Sure some have better PVP or more exciting combat but as a whole with everything included they literally do not come anywhere near 14 and the devs of those games don't really seem to be bothered with them, the opposite of 14.

Nice to hear a review from someone also over 40. I was always put off by sub only games unless the sub was cheap. I can honestly say it's worth the money. The fact that Yoshi considers this his legacy is likely a huge reason why there is care in it and Square is thankfully hands off. That said the core game isn't really good and it's really hard to get someone to mandatory invest the time to reach the parts that have some of the best writing in any RPG.

Currently at over 2600 days, and most content cleared. I loved 1.0 and miss odd things like the race to get retainers back in the ward after a patch, chasing someone to buy items from the shop over our heads and other odd things, I do not miss the old anima for tp system though or fatigue.

Ignoring the fact that Asmongold basically spit in the eyes of all the ff14 players who gave him a royal welcome and an overwhelming amount of support and then lead them on for months as though he was going to return to continue the story...He did one good thing for me. He made me notice this game. Ironically, I participated in the exodus, despite not even being a WoW player or even a fan of Asmongold. The boost he gave to the trend was so huge that even bystanders like me noticed. Then I went to try it and it was a stellar experience for me.

Also, by starting to play it so late it felt like such a massive undertaking to go through all the DLC's (over 1K hours) that I stopped playing. I'm happy to say that I've felt satisfied with this game. I'm in fact so sated, that I'm willing to let go of it. The years that I played were great, I was happy and they gave me pretty much everything I wanted. I'm incredibly grateful for them not ruining the ending to their 10 year storyline. It wasn't flawless, I have my own criticisms, but it was still far above my expectations and I'd even say they nailed the landing. I don't regret any time I spent in the game or any money I spent on it (something that I can't say about gw2 or wow at all). I will keep my sub going and will return for new story additions. I hope they keep going strong and I hope the game keeps getting better. It deserves the success. I respect everyone working on this game for respecting their players. It meant a lot. I hope it has many more years to go, but if not, then I will just be grateful for what they have given me. I can't say this about any of the other multiplayer games that I've played in the last 20 years. FF14 is a one of a kind marvel.

I came from GW2, It almost not click me at first until my brother said that this is old traditional MMO style, I have it to give it time and learn how to play properly, not like GW2 which more engaging battle style. I listened and keep going and holy sxxx I loved this game. Character, World, Story that so well-crafted. Well, It have flaws I wont say it’s not. But no game is perfect and have own player base. But this game standout for me. And like many comments, This game change me, truly. To be a better person. Back then, A game (not GW2 or WoW) change me to be a toxic person. and when think back to that I hate it but I must accepted it. In this game, I would change to be better and better each day I played and help people, properly. And now I have My character of my own as, WoL.

I have around 7k hours and i have to say this about the community. it is marginally nicer than any other MMO I've played, but like you said they do tend be extra and when someone is an ass they will be an EXTRA ass. people sometimes feel they can say and do whatever they want, and because "hur dur we're a great community so you're being toxic by pointing this issue out" is a mindset sometimes you end up having to explain to people simple concepts.... in alliance raid for example, there's always that 1 clown who thinks they know better than everyone cause they read a reddit post, or assumes everyone is experienced and a FF14 veteran.

  • @Manchild_Gaming

I would say the less people in a room, the easier it is to get to know the room. Alliance raids are a bit of a circus, but in a tighter setting like a savage raid or something you get to see truer colors.

I remember playing the FFXIV beta back in the days and it completely turned me off to the game. Of course, it being a beta was one thing but the game felt so very clunky and heavy which is something, in any game, makes me dislike it. It took me a while afterwards to get into it but when I did, I never looked back. Since ARR / HW, I've remained subscribed to the game and experiencing as much of it as I can and during the luls like those between the last patch of an expansion and the next expac, it just gives me time to try other things. FFXIV is my home, figuratively speaking. I've tried WoW and while it can be fun, it doesn't feel as satisfying to me as FFXIV does. Played City of Heroes a lot too, some other MMOs, both standalone and free to play but I always come back. I think what I like most about it is how it's just somewhere you go when you WANT to, not somewhere you go because you HAVE to. You don't log in because you feel like someone's holding a gun to your head saying "If you don't, you'll regret it later". The story definitively had me by the feels by the end of Heavensward which showed me that even if FFXIV is a "MMO", it is first and foremost a RPG. It's no surprise people call it a RPGMMO instead of a MMORPG, it definitively feels like it was built up since ARR to be something you experience then have others alongside you that are on the same voyage. It succeeds in having people work together and even if you can come across some bad apples from time to time, you instead come across people who are willing to help and simply, genuinely just enjoy doing stuff. Since Trusts are a thing, I always do my first runs of new content with them to see how the NPCs add to the experience of the dungeon but I am also always eager afterwards to get those dungeons in roulettes. It's like that first experience was the canon one and the repeats are just remembering a good time and sometime swapping some people here and there in.

I've out about 7,000 hours in, and I've progressively gotten more and more apathetic towards the game the longer it's gone on. The treadmill was cute in heavensward, a bit annoying in stormblood, I'd gotten sick of it by shadowbringers to thinking it truly overstayed its welcome in endwalker. I tolerated my gear and effort being made redundant and useless a few times, but over time it really started to tank my interest. There's 0 horizontal progression in this game but they showed improvements with Eureka and bozja and demonstrated that it was possible for them to offer alternative gearing methods. In a game that is advertised around being able to play all jobs, you will struggle to play 2 or 3 in any serious capacity. Gear is timegated meaning even if you want to grind, you can't. It takes 3 months to get 1 job geared with tomes, same with savage if you clear every week., just for it to be made entirely redundant a couple of months later. The game has also struggled with what I can only describe as area creep. 90% of the active player base is either in the starting areas or in the final areas, and everything else in between is completely empty. When was the last time you went to the fringes? do you remember what the lochs look like? what about the sea of clouds? and the problem gets worse with every expansion as the gap in the playerbase widens.

My summary and "opinion" and how i feel after playing many years ( since realm reborn) : Great game but not for pvp players. Market price plummets hard during down time content ( between big patches), especially after releasing all the 4 stars crafting stuffs. Meaning Gil financial system regulation is poor and cant totally fault on SE because thats not really their job I assume LMAO. Gil really doesnt have much use, you can earn massive gils, but there isn't much you can use besides housing, crafting materials and the 50m mount lmao ( assuming you have >200m already). Point of this game is all about glamour end game, excellent PVE as well. Combat system is fair ( fair skill rotations but not intensive combat system), IF we put it and compare to BDO ( meaning NOT BAD, just different category) as nowadays BDO combat system is really the gold standard for comparing. They use same formula for each expansion: 3 alliances raids, savage tier pve content, new relic weapons, ultimates etc, new classes. Its good to have these content, but it gets too predictable and boring when you go through this cycle for so many years, basically not so much of fresh new ideas outside of what they have been doing over these many years.

Don't need friends. Embrace the Party Finder. I've only had my static since shadowbringers. And I made my own static from people I met in partyfinder.

you're not missing out on much honestly, the raiding system and combat is really boring, even ultimates are ultimately just boring and too easy

As a veteran Aion player (aion classic now) im so desperate of really find a good game to play because our devs really hate their community so they treat us like garbage. You think I should give a chance to start ffivx from the beginning? im really afraid that i will get tired of the fact that i will need to level up at the same time all the other people are already geared and max leveled.

Nows the perfect time, you will more than likely be caught up to everyone by release of the new expansion Dawntrail. Even at a slow pace. You can play the first 2 expansions for free too on a 30 day trial, nothing to lose but time.

Let me clarify. Dawntrail comes out in summer of 2024. I think its enough time to get to the end game before that releases. It depends on how much spare time you have, but even at a moderate pace i think you can get there before the next expansion. And even if you dont, you arent missing out per say. FFXIV does a great job of keeping old content relevent you can always fight a boss at appropiate lvl/ilvl so that you can experience the difficulty in its intended state. Hope this helps@@angellaloco8066

I would like to tell you you’re wrong about one thing. The garbage people are definitely more like 5% at maximum. As someone who started not to long ago, I’ve gotten into about every content except end game raiding and yes I know that’s where the scary people are but they’re definitely not more than 5% of the total population. I came from ESO with about 9,600 hours played and that game is about 50+% Garbo people

Well...I personally think its a bad idea to buy one. And the only justification for me would be if it was a second character or account or something. But i think they put it in place for people to catch up with their friends and not have to wait months to play along. Charging for it makes some sense but i feel ya.@@TheQzzyollie

My main issue with XIV is there’s no character building or progression. It’s just hit max level and learn your rotation and then that’s it. Your character attributes like crit hit etc mean literally nothing that entire stat menu is so outdated and meaningless.

This game isn't resource heavy. RTX 3070 and Ryzen 3700x at Highest settings, 40-60% utilization on the card at 144 fps locked. 8-10% utilization on the CPU. I'm not sure what potato rig you're running, but it's time for you to enter this decade.
