$10,000 Flight - No service for 9 Hours - American Flagship USA to Tokyo

Join us on our long 27hr travel day from Orlando Florida to Tokyo Japan in American Airlines Flagship business class.
We start the day at 5am in Orlando and fly to Dallas (DFW) in American First after experiencing the lounge at Orlando International airport. Then we take the long 13 hr flight from Dallas to Narita Japan in Americans premier Flagship Business class. As you can tell from the title "Flagship" was far from the service received on board.
Once in Japan we register our JR Rail Pass and caught the Narita Express to Tokyo. At the end of a very long and disappointing day we checked in at the Hilton in Shinjuku to start our Japanese adventures

Thanks for the honest review of your American Airlines flight. I’m a Platinum Pro frequent flyer and have noticed worse service lately, both in the air and on the ground. I think American employees are (on average) not happy and don’t want to go above and beyond the requirements. They can be downright impatient and avoid interaction with passengers. While US carriers have usually been behind the top international competition, it is so embarrassing that there’s not even a small intent to make people feel welcomed on board or to invite future business. I took my mom on this airline and felt like a fool for being so loyal, based on how she was treated (especially by one absolutely unacceptable, impatient and openly rude agent and the business class check-in, no less).

I am Platinum Pro as well , flying out of Charlottesville they were the only airline with the best connections for my business trips. Now in Orlando I am focusing on Delta as they have the best business routings . I have one more trip on points left then I am done with them after that Japan flight. Shame I have flown with them for 18 years

As an American Airlines EP, I can confirm the long haul service is hit or miss. Sometimes the crew hit it out of the park and 50% of the time they are the walking dead. Inconsistency is a business killer. I'd like to shout our to two of my favorite BCN-MIA FA's. Your know you who you are! Suzanne and Lizette! You make American shine!!

Although I admire your honesty, 50% excellence is quite a failure rate when set against the ticket price. Perhaps passengers fares and crews pay should depend on customer satisfaction. Currently, it looks like crew accountability doesn't exist.

As a former flight attendant with the major European airline I cannot understand why those FAs didn't walk around with a tray offering water or any juice. We always did it, especially during very long night flights, and to be honest, for selfish reasons: just to stay awake! 😅

@@ThemeParkBazza I can very well understand that you were shocked. To walk around the cabin in regular intervals, not only offering something to drink, but it is also an important safety aspect: to check if everything is o.k., no unusual noises, no strange smells, if the passengers are o.k. There were already a very few passengers on very long night flights who didn't feel well, but didn't dare to push the call button, and worst scenario, quietly passed away without being noticed by anyone.

Nice choice of song "I could never forgive you. I'm done." What a shame about that lack of service. Not good enough at all, but what can you do? You just have to make the best of it & not let it ruin your trip, but then moving forward you can protest with your money. Spend it elsewhere. Thankyou very much for this great vlog. It was full of detail which made it very interesting. I have never been in business class & honestly I don't think I would ever want to pay these enormous prices for what can be a disappointment. All flights from here to USA or UK are long & I just accept now it's going to be a day of discomfort & try to focus on the movies etc. I always take water & snacks but I do often walk down to the galley for extra supplies. Sometimes get in some brief periods of dozing but I don't even try to fall asleep any more. Despite the airline having had frequent complaints I must give cudoes to United Airlines- I took flights with them Australia to UK via USA return last year (economy all 4 sectors) & it was good. The cabin crew were very attentive re safety aspects & came regularly with water & snacks. I really enjoyed your very informative video & have now subscribed to your channel. Most airlines don’t disrupt pax rest time during a night flight with a service in the middle regardless of how much money you’ve paid or which cabin you sit in. If you need anything and don’t want to leave your seat just press the call bell and someone will come to take your order. There would only be a service mid-flight if you are on one of those monster flights like an 18-19 hour one.

Sorry your main flight was disappointing and hope your return was better. We flew BA Business Class from Manchester-Heathrow-Haneda in January on the 787 Dreamliner. Seat configuration was the same as your flight. Both our flights to and from Tokyo were classed as night flights so we too had at least 9 hours between meals. I think that’s quite normal for a flight of that length, in my experience anyway. Our menu mentioned there would be self service food in the galley which consisted of salads, sandwiches, sushi, yoghurts, fruit/fruit salad and loads of different snacks, crisps, chocolate etc. Hot and cold drinks were also available., and there were at least two crew members in the galley at all times. A Japanese gentleman a few seats away from me used the “call button” several times during the flight and never left his seat other than to go to the bathroom. Good to see you had a decent Business Class flight with Aer Lingus because we’re doing that flight MAN-MCO in October - hopefully free of children running up and down the aisles 😡 Looking forward to the rest of your Japan vlogs.

That’s definitely not on. Unfortunately the only way to deal with these bad airlines is to hit them where it hurts and walk. It’s such a competitive market that they just don’t seem to care. We fly mostly to the US with Virgin and had more bad flights than good with them - hopefully Aer Lingus is better for out trip in October (had a fab flight with them many years ago via Dublin). My son flew ANA business in 2018 to Tokyo and I think it was the best business he’d ever flown. Emirates & Etihad Business to Australia and South Africa via Dubai/Abu Dhabi has always been top. And all the Far Eastern airlines are excellent. Unfortunately these great airlines want stupid money ☹️ I hope you get a reply from AA and some sort of compensation for your loyalty if nothing else. Everything crossed for you. 🤗🤗

The first was from NYC to Hawaii and the DFW to HNL leg in the 777-300 which is domestic but still 8 hours and the service was excellent, just like international Business and we even managed to snag the first class international seat!. on the return we flew back via LAX and the second leg to JFK was on the same 777 in same seats but the service was utterly dismal. Surly flight crew, and when i asked for a glass of wine they stated that the wine was somewhere back in Economy and 'tut' they would have to go and get it just for me. I was gob-smacked by it. I put it down to COVID as it was Dec 2020 but still.

I watched with interest. It certainly seemed like a 'long haul,' pun intended! You mentioned several times about the lack of service, and comparing to other airlines. I follow a fellow Brit, who lives in the UK but travels regularly to Orlando. He always flies with Virgin, premium economy, and records the journey, which I enjoy. They have a feature called a 'Wonder Wall,' whereby passengers can go and help themselves to snacks and drinks. Obviously he doesn't record the whole flight, so no idea if the crew come round and ask if you need anything as well! Just wondering if they came around while you were napping, and didn't want to disturb you. It does seem odd. I've travelled to Orlando several times from Gatwick, with economy, and I do remember the crew coming round several times offering water etc. The last time was 2013 so no idea if things have changed.
