Thank you for this video! I work at a behavioral health facility and one of the kids here has locs, and they've grown out over a year because the lady who was doing them left. I told them I would learn how to do it so their hair would look nice again. This tutorial made it look easy enough that I could do it!
I appreciate you making sure to be gentle with his scalp. My mama didn’t seem to understand how tender-headed I was/am, and getting my hair done is one of the worst memories of my childhood. Even the stylists she brought me to were so heavy handed. It wasn’t until I picked my own stylist at 19 did I realize that it is, in fact, not commonplace to cry while getting your hair redone - even if you are tender-headed 😒.

Same here with my momma, she didn't care. She'd give me the products to hold and give to her when she needed and tell me "boy hush" whenever I said sum. Although I don't think it was like you and your mom because we were jokin around half the time and laughin it up. My mom gave me cornrows one time that hurt like hell because she was tryna do some box-braid stuff that stuck to my scalp but it didn't even last 3 days then when I went to my grandmother's (her mom) hair salon the way they did my cornrows it lasted a whole month. Love her to death tho and love all the times she do my hair

I am not a black man, and I have no idea how this came up in my recommendation feed. I don't even have hair at all. But I watched the whole thing. What a wonderful mother taking care of her amazing prince. Good job and bless you.

For all the people complaining about the timing it’s better to do it after a year because you can change the parts to make them neater due to the growth after one year. And her ripping those little hairs that are tangled doesn’t hurt a thing as you can see he has thick hair. She did everything right . Good job 👏🏽

The only time you would not have to break locs is if you are re twisting every 2 weeks. That's when you see thin weak locs. Because folks are scared of new growth. Goodness forbid you don't have baby hair smooth edges. I retwist once a quarter. You have to let the locs LOC!! There's a reason his locs look so pretty after the retwist. His momma left it alone. I have never gone a year but I could. With no problem. Great job mom!!

@@eboniclay4570 That's not what she's saying at all! What she said is the locks are thicker and healthier when you leave them alone and *break the new growth for retwisting.* But the people who constantly retwist without letting it get a little fuzzy have thinner locks because they don't let the hair nap out naturally.

My sons hair is so healthy strong and thick. Thanks again. I wish I could show you how his hair turned out. Blessings to you and your adorable young king.
His hair looks amazing! I ❤️ to see dreads look neat ESPECIALLY when it’s children’s hair, so personally I wouldn’t wait 1 year between twists, as it starts to look untidy after 2-3 months. Good job re-twisting his hair and the dreads really suit him. 🙂

THANK YOU for this video! I just did microlocs on myself and let it be while I was doing finals. Well the nape became a ratted mess in the 7 weeks and before I combed out and tried again I was like let me see if anyone else been through this? I learned something new, I usually do my own hair but didn't know to loosely plait or twist at the root. I see how that helps the hair flow more naturally instead of ending up with a stiff braid that wont lay down. I just subscribed thank you!

I can tell you have a gentle touch. I get my hair interlocked twice a year and they charge a shit load of $ and they take forever but hey, my scalp is sensitive. Great vid! It's like night and day. Too much tension on any hair can lead to thinning so I take my time between retwists and interlocking. Great vid ma and that little boy was too cute!
