1 Year in Italy vs. 1 Year in Australia

Hey! For the past few years, I've lived abroad. First I lived in Australia for a year and then I moved to Italy. This was my experience.

Non so perché, forse perché mi aiutano a capire meglio dove vivo. Ciao!

Spiders never really bothered me - until I watched this video! So that's Australia off the list. I'm learning Italian (thanks for the useful tips elsewhere on the channel) and would love to spend a year or two in Italy. Practical videos like this covering the cost of living, the challenges of finding work and blending in etc, from an ex-pat perspective, are really interesting. Thanks again for taking the time and sharing so openly.

Well there are a few different dishes, everybody thinks that in Canada there isn't much to choose from, but believe it not, if you look at some recipes on the internet there are quite a few dishes, like for example, one of my favourites was the chicken pot pies or the French Pea soup....as far as desserts I loved Blueberry Cobbler or strawberry shortcake, if you search on google you will find the recipes to all these dishes :)

Hi Elissa! New subscriber here - found you from watching your Italian friend Elisa’s videos about Rome .... y’all are so lucky living in / being around the Italian culture like you do - I lived in Rome for three years when I was 5 to 8 so I feel an enormous attraction to the area - the little bit of Italian I knew back then has become extinct - I would love to speak fluently ... how did you learn to speak and how long did / does it take to become well versed?? I guess learning would be pointless since I have no Italian friends, but I would still like to know your opinion on the fastest way to get there :) PS - I’ve been back to Rome twice in the last three months to visit (one week each) and it makes me sick not to be able to fit in language wise.

I love so much your videos! And definitely would be nice to see more videos about culture differences. About the friendship with Italians...well...you are absolutely right! It's hard to build up real friendship with them. I'm Hungarian, working in multinational environment, I have Italian colleagues, and many other nations. Italians are closed! I know it's wired to hear this, but it's true. They seems to be opened and friendly, but they don't let you get close. Or just very slowly. And they prefer to stay with Italians. Of course there are exceptions, yes.. but generally they not searching for the other nation's friendship.

A fair video. I live in Australia, a little south of Sydney. Melbourne's weather is (for me) unique as its known to have 4 seasons in one day versus where I live we dont experience that very rarely. The further north you go, the more tropical weather. Re the Spiders, just fumigate/pest control treatment your house, & you wont see insects in your house. Yes, the food in Italy is very very nice.

Just found the channel it's great content. I totally agree with your breakdown and felt the degree being useless part so much. I lived in Italy after high school and taught English overseas. It was great teaching overseas, good pay, cool people, but once I got back to the states with just a bachelors in Eng Lit it was a disaster and I live in La so there are plenty of jobs. I knew co-workers who taught ESL with me and then decided to work at McDonalds because the pay was better and they all had "humanity" degrees. I feel like colleges should be super upfront with students about how useless our degrees will be. I'm sure we didn't realize we were getting hobby degrees. It's way harder to meet people in the North then the South of Italy I would say. It's totally ok to go up to people and try to make friends haha it will be awkward but who cares some will definitely take to you. If you hate spiders avoid Prague! Great channel the t and d video on pronunciation was super helpful.

I'm Italian and I spent one month visiting my daughter in the Melbourne area seven years ago, I agree with your video especially regarding the cost of life and food. The first 4 days I was scared by spiders, snakes and critters in general but then I got used to them. I found that people in Australia are more like Brits than Americans (I can't compare with Canadians as I never visited Canada). Australians don't have that hug thing that American seem to have, Aussies tend to avoid any physical contact and exchange handshakes just when they introduce themselves (I guess the fact that I am a 59 yo male may played a role in this). My biggest shock after landing was the slang and the accent; when the Customs Officer interviewed me I even wonder if he was speaking English.

Here in Rome, the average price I paid for rooms was around 450€ which I think was a decent price because it also differs on the neighborhood. If you want an apartment all to yourself then that's different and more costly. What job did you find online? I had the same experience in Napoli "you came to Napoli to work? People are leaving here in droves!" Friends: yeah it does take a while to penetrate friend groups. Connections of all types are made by meeting friends of friends. Yeah I confirm it's easier to make friends in Napoli, culturally I was quite well there.

Fano was important Roman center Known "Fanum fortunae"that refers to "Temple of Fortuna"probably because the Romans won an important battle in 208 BC (The Metauro Battle), by the river of that town. Roman legions deleted the army of Carthaginian generalAstrubale, killing the leader who, after having crossed the Alps with the war elephants, , intended to rejoin his most famous brother, Hannibal.

06:41 - 06:46 From what I'm getting recently,it appears Australia is known for having pretty *racist* people. That applies to other Countries for sure,INCLUDING both America and Italy,but...yeah...that's the thing that stood up the most to me recently.... 10:30 - 10:53 *DAMN IT!* 😖😖😖😨😨😨😰😰😰 I am considering to go to Australia on holiday at some point(after this whole Corona Virus mess gets under control,of course),but this thing alone is making me seriously reconsider my decision!X"-SSS

Piuttosto e anzicheno'...
