There are negative comments about clean and organized tools on every toolbox video I watch. Makes no sense. Almost like people take pride in working out of a dirty sh*tbox. My brother is a diesel tech. He uses the living crap out of his tools every day. He wipes them down at the end of the day before they go back in the box (religiously; bordering on clinical OCD). Most of them look brand new. I gave him a hard time about it once (because his cleaning routine was cutting into beer drinking time). His reasoning was pretty simple... "If I am working on a guy's semi and I bring him out to show him something, I want my toolbox to be a reflection of my work ethic... clean, organized, meticulous and efficient.... If I had a half-million dollars tied up in a semi, that's the kind of guy I would want working on it. Think about it... If a guy isn't willing to take care of HIS OWN stuff, why would I want him touching MY stuff?" Hard to argue with that...

I think the point is that even in a shop where the mechanic is OCD about cleaning the tools… there’s still usually signs of use. Somewhere. Like grease smudges on the drawer mats from when you’re working on something and get a different tool out with dirty hands. This collection looks like a showroom display and rarely used at all. Not that there’s anything wrong with that… unless you’re giving reviews about the quality.

Alot of comments about how clean your tools are! My dad taught me when I was young to always clean your tools when you're done and put them away where they belong. I watched your vid because I just picked up a few sets of Icon wrenches and wanted to see if people liked them or not. When I was 19 I started my first job as an industrial mechanic and bought Craftsman sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers and wrenches. They were all pretty good, but the best thing was the convenience of being able to exchange for new when they broke. Only had to replace 1/2 inch ratchets and screwdrivers. I get attached to tools that I have had for a long time. I would still have them but they washed away in a flood a few years ago and now I'm starting over with my home tools. Hope these Icons do good for me. Great vid, Thanx.

Ive snapped many ratchets and sockets when starting out and using 3/8 for everything. I bought impact sockets and used them on hand tools, that stopped broken sockets as long as you have enough space. Up graded to a full set of 1/2 drive and breaker bars, used the right tool for the job and things went so much better. I still used impact sockets on ratchets more than chrome.

I bought the Icon wrench set, don’t have any issues. I also have a complete Tekton socket set and a Icon ratchet. The Tekton ratchet I dropped and the guts came flying out. Received rebuilt kit and rebuilt no issues after. I work on the Pump repair field so everyday is a hard day and a torture test on my tools. I think I can live with the Icons / Tekton tools rather than the extra money for the Snap-on stuff. Have some Snap-on stuff but can see the logic of spending 4 time the money for a tool that will perform as well. Have to wait for Fridays for the truck to come by or swing by HF and replace the stuff. The Tekton took 2 days to receive the replacement so not bad. I would say if you are starting try the Icon or Tekton. The Icon are built in Taiwan as are the Tekton (some are US made)

I am a heavy duty diesel mechanic and I abuse my tools daily, I bought the Icon impact 3/8 and 1/2 swivel socket sets, definitely recommend getting those and something worth having a harbor freight close by to warranty it out if needed , I did buy the 3/8 flex head icon ratchet, it’s ok, I own the Pittsburg pro flex head ratchets as well, I feel those are better than the icon ones, but I invested in the gearwrench comfort grip locking flex head ratchets, love those, I feel like the Icon has room to grow, but the convenience of HarborFreight is worth it too me

In defense of the extra-long combination wrenches.. All of the other wrenches you can purchase in-store are shorter than these, no matter where you go. As an alignment technician, these extra long wrenches were exactly what I needed and ultimately saved me hundreds of dollars because the only other options were Snap-On or Matco.

Been using ICON impact sockets since March 2020 and can say they have held up really well. I use 1/2” drive deep well metric and standard sockets everyday, and they have held up to the abuse from the impact hammer. I use the hi-torque milsucky impact and it destroys the Pittsburgh sockets and especially the Pittsburgh swivel impact sockets. Luckily harbor freight is less than a mile from our shop and we replace them often. Boss man bought me the 1/2, 3/8 & 1/4” drive flex head ratchets, and they are pretty nice! I use the 1/4” ratchet more than my snap on ratchet! I will say that I don’t trust the 1/2” flex head like I do my snap on ratchet, I’ve used both enough to say that the snap on pawl engagement is much better, there is hardly any slop to my 2 year old snap on ratchet, and my ICON ratchet has some play in the anvil already. Not enough to worry about, but enough to make me always use my snap on ratchet when I need to put some serious impetus on a bolt.

Other than that I can't complain, wait yes I can a little, last year when I bought a set of wrenches for my son they went from⅜to 1 inch and 8mm to 21, now they only go to ¾and 19mm. That's bull crap

As for a guy who has used icon for over a year now at my fatyers junkyard (7 days a week) and working on shit that is rusted together for 20 plus years with putting pipe bars on them and using said tools in way the tools should not be used. That being said. We have owned snap on. Mac. Cornwell extra etc tools. And honestly, we have replaced all our cornwell and snap on stuff with everything icon and have had ZERO issues for over a year now. On multiple tools. Sockets, wrenches, ratchets etc etc.

@@garykolbo7228 Yea I'm a corporate sponsored guy by harbor freight. I've only spent thousands on their tools over the last 2 years. The joke of harbor freight tools are junk are over. The icon line is just as good as snap on and cornwell. Our impact sockets still look nee to this day after 2 years of abusive at our salvage yard. Used every day 8-5 7 days a week. Using them in ways they shouldn't be used. Same with the ratchets a d wrenches we own. We switched from snap on to icon ( not all at once obviously) because the icon line is just that good. Again, the joking days of saying harbor freight specials or harbor freight is junk is OVER. Theyre taking the icon line seriously.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been waiting for channels like yours to come out with non sponsored reviews. So first of all, thank you! Capri makes good wobble extensions for a decent price on amazon. Also, could you say how much you spent on the impacts vs sizes you got and if they skipped sizes or not? I invested in sunex impact master sets, so I’m just curious as to the comparison without having to delve into it myself. Also, check out Tekton too, they’re gonna be the next Craftsman when craftsman was made in America.

Have the 3/8s ICON ratchet and torque wrench, amazing quality in the torque wrench, the ratchet feels a little more sturdy than my bluepoint 3/8s. Also have ratcheting open end sets of ICON metric and SAE have yet to really put them to the test but from what I have experienced my old gearwrench set feels noticeably hardier. A side note a run the whole bluepoint line up of sockets in 3/8s 85 piece kit and find I allways grab my ICON ratchet over the bluepoint everytime. As far as impacts I run plain Pittsburgh half inch, have put a hurting on them with a sledge countless times . And have only seen one break vs the 3 snapons I've seen shatter.. Coincidents? Maybe. In my opinion, if it's made in Taiwan I deem that with the same (in some cases better) level of quality as being made in the USA. Taiwan makes so many high-quality tools at this point that I think they have more and better craftsmen than in the States as we have gotten away from manufacturing over the decades.

I'm hoping to some day just switch to all impact sockets. That way their all durable. A coworker made a really good point when I first started at the shop is that it makes no sense to have chrome sockets when your impact sockets will do the same. The only time I do believe chrome is the way to go is when using a non marring socket for lugs, or if you need to get a socket in a tight hole. Other then that, I'd say all impact is the way to go.
