1 Year ALONE Restoring an Abandoned Smallholding [timelapse]

Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in Castellón, Spain. In these videos we share our life as we restore and improve our little stone house, learn to grow and preserve our own food, and bring our 4 acres of farmland back to productivity. I know all you who read what I will say will not like it. But you can do this today! the only thing standing in your way is yourself. Look at this woman, she left everything that many would say "held them back" from doing it. YOu dont need to own land to live like this, WWOOF, volunteer, kibutz, so many options. In my life I have waited to do things only to wish i had done them sooner. If you truly want to live this way, just do it and figure it out later!

Harriet, brutal....

KZread kept recommending this so I watched it today. This is similar a bit to my journey. I bought a farm in Lithuania (I'm from Lithuania) and has been working on it on and off on my own. My husband should joing me this year hopefully. Of course, this lifestyle is challening, but being in nature, drinking fresh water, growing your own organic veggies, and having total peace is definitely worth it.

Bravo Harriet! I am so impressed! You are very resourceful. Moving into a shack on your own, without running water or any furniture, with thousands of items on your “to do” list, is a very brave thing to do. And look what you have achieved in such a short time! It’s wonderful! Many of us dream of doing such a thing but so few of us ever do it. I hope you both have a long and happy life there. Well done girl! 😊❤️🦘

I agree completely. There is nothing like falling in love with the place you chose to live. I sold up in California in 2007 and moved to a small village in the south of France. I have my choice of beaches along the Mediterranean and surrounded by vineyards. The Spanish border is about an hour away so it is one of my favorite day trips. There is a village down there that I simply cannot get enough of. But, hands down, France holds my heart.

My first visit and have to say, you have done an amazing job, and it is beautiful that you have taken the option to know your land and all it provides for you. Don't be surprised if nature reaches out to you. It does communicate, answers prayers for rain. Protects your land and critters if harmful weather is coming. Don't think of prayers as religious. Talk to nature as a friend when asking it to protect...and provide. I suspect it has grown attached as it knows what you have accomplished. Spread your arms in love. It will in turn fill you with love. Can't beat it. Namaste.😏💕

We also decided to move from the city to a small town to make a food forest out of a 1/2 acre of old citrus farm land. 7 years later most all the fruit and nut trees are productive and it's beautiful. Thanks to social media and monthly tours we have built up a community of people interested in sustainable food production that trade and barter for services and harvests. This is the future; smaller, deeply invested and local bands of people working together independently in a community.

this is my absolute dream! my whole family is very sweet but they are the classic workaholic people who spend most of their time on their job and its heartbreaking to me to see how constantly stressed and fatigued they are. the only solace i see them get sometimes is when we spend time together in the garden we have outside of the city. recently ive been rethinking a lot and i have sort of decided for myself that im truly not made to follow into their footsteps and work a busy job inside all day, smack dab in the big city surrounded by people and problems 24/7. videos like this make me feel so warm and cozy inside :) i just know id love the challenge and the reward of having such a beautiful space to me and my partner. this video was amazing! you guys have achieved so much and i have so much respect for you, starting this journey on your own!
