I'm all for non-theatre folks seeing shows - I love to see it, honestly. Please come and see why live musical theatre is so amazing! But the thought of five people dancing during the show is equally funny and infuriating to me. Seriously, you don't even have to know anything about theatre etiquette to know that this is annoying to everyone else who paid to see professional actors perform. And imagine being an actor on stage and seeing those weirdos acting like it's a concert lmao

Real story: Around the years 1998 and 1999, the backstage area of the Imperial Theater in NYC where Les Mis was playing at the time had a serious rodent problem. Cast members would find rat droppings in their boots and pockets. I know the actors are playing starving French people onstage, but you'd hope they could leave sewer rats once they left the literal sewer scenes and went back to their dressing rooms. But I guess not. lol

About the girls who were too wild for Mamma Mia, I get the whole theater etiquette thing, but to at least back when ads were running here, they definitely said it was a show to get up and dance, like showing multiple clips of theater audiences dancing (even though I presume those audience clips were fully staged).

I would love to hear your thoughts on Book of Mormon. Although it is one of my personal favourite musicals I have always felt slightly uncomfortable with its portrayal of the African village and the struggles they go through. It is meant to be comedic but I definitely feel like it goes too far at times. I feel like a video on it would be really interesting. Great video as always 🥰

I am still mad because I could have gone to another show with the ticket money, but I get it. I will never go to any show with her again, though. Not finished with the video yet, but have to comment about the Come From Away review!! Ugh! Baffles me that people think everything has to be big and flashy. This show is SO good, and how down to earth and real it is is so much of the appeal. Chills, every time I listen to the soundtrack or see the show. And to the accent thing….I’m guessing this was West End, and they have the New Foundland accents?? I guess I can understand that as an American who sometimes struggles to keep up with shows with English accents. There have been shows that I totally loved that I didn’t fully comprehend some of what was said, but surely you could still get the idea of what’s happening?? I dunno. I guess I just feel strongly about the show. People are entitled to their opinions, I just don’t agree. Haha

  • @Harudodo

I completely agree with everything not needing to be flashy! I was recently in a school production of A Monster Calls, and our set and costumes was EXTREMELY minimalist. Yet every night the audience was drawn to tears and shared how impactful it was. Sometimes less is more, even in theatre

Definitely agree with the Book of Mormon review(s); I went into it expecting religious satire and just felt like the whole thing was racist past the point of a joke even. It has always made me deeply uncomfortable and knowing several theatre fan friends who loved it its good to know I'm not alone/laughed at/accused of being overly PC for being offended. Granted, if I had known it was written by Seth McFarlane in advance I probably would have avoided it, as his style of dark comedy i find often is offensive for the point of being offensive rather than a good satire, and feel it goes too far very often. Would love to hear more of your thoughts on Book of Mormon.

I will say, I saw Wicked last week for the first time in the West End, but my 15th time in total. It was the worst delivered performance of Wicked I’ve seen ever. It was all the main cast, no understudies. Glinda’s comedic moments fell so flat and barely many laughs because of the acting choices that were made. I love the cast in everything else I’ve seen them in, but at times lyrics were raced through to the point of being unrecognisable, in favour of a riff or sustaining a note at the end of the line. I love Wicked, I have a For Good tattoo, so yes I’m very picky with it. However I’ve never been so disappointed by a show than I was last week. Such talented performers but just really unfortunate choices made by the cast or the director. It was however the best staging of the show I’ve seen ever.

I find Book of Mormon such a strange thing to critique. While I watched it I went on a rollercoaster of sometimes thinking the jokes (while dark) were extremely clever and funny but then there were also just as many moment with lines that felt like they were in poor taste and didn't fit with the message and intent of the narrative. I saw it for the first time just a few months ago and during the interval all I noticed was how white the audience was, that made me more uncomfortable as I don't like being in/supporting spaces like this with little to no racial diversity. Ultimately, I feel this conversation needs to be had with black people or any POC as their responses and feelings towards the production are more pressing and valid. I don't know if my discomfort is genuine or somehow the result of white guilt derived from my privilege. Overall I think the premise is good and I'm never going to have a problem with taking the piss out of religious groups, especially those that are widely known for their hurtful and oppressive teachings, but the delivery and content is in a grey area for me and I'd love to be educated more on it.

Les Miserables’ orchestra was cut from 22 to 11 when it moved theatres in 2004. Musicians had their parts replaced through a Sinfonia machine (virtual orchestra), in a similar manner to Phantom of the Opera’s post pandemic re-opening. Neither sound as rich. Certainly not as rich as the producers behind the decision making.

I’ve been saying Book of Mormon is racist as hell for years, so glad people are finally starting to talk about it! There’s lots of funny bits (mostly the religious humor imo) but that does not remotely excuse portraying Africans as AIDs ridden savages. Especially when there was not a single black/African person on the writing staff, but plenty of ex-Mormons. The fact that it’s still so popular and getting a broadway revival (or so I’ve heard) is horrifying tbh. That rhetoric is deeply harmful and should not be tolerated no matter how funny the rest of the show is. I would love to hear your thoughts, please make a video!

And yet theatre actors are constantly being reminded that we have to be loud enough for everyone’s deaf grandpa.

I saw Book of Mormon a few years ago and I don't think I'd see it again. Satire is so difficult to get right, and the way the Ugandans were portrayed made me wonder about authorial intent. It felt dated event though it's not that old a show. I do love some of the songs and some lines are really funny. Would be interesting to hear a black cast member's opinion since the available roles for black actors still aren't great in number. Ultimately, I think we just need new shows and the outdated ones can be retired. Comedy rarely ages well.

Ok I’m clueless and I need your help! Lol I have my **very first audition ever** in 2 weeks. I’m auditioning to be Jan in my local theatre’s production of Grease and the call sheet says they’ll be teaching us a few basic dance moves. So I was wondering if wearing plain white “Keds” type shoes would be appropriate, since I watched your audition outfit video and I’m “hinting” at Jan’s overall style. But I was afraid that sneakers would give a bad impression. Please help me! Lol love your videos 💜

Hey, Lauren! I recommend wearing shoes appropriate for dancing and moving in. I’m not sure Keds are the right type of shoes for that. But you do you! Haha. Break a leg!

@@laurenlongfellow9714 its all good! For an audition, it’s recommended that you wear movable clothes and shoes. They want to see how you can move. The costumes will be added later. Break a leg!

Some of these are just really baffling to me. No doubt, when I saw Wicked I was a bit lost, being a tween and not really following the plot but there's a lot of singing and dancing? Sure it's no South Pacific (musicwise) but there's more plot than A Chorus Line

Unpopular opinion: I also wasn’t that impressed with Wicked. I thought the story line wasn’t great and some of the songs could easily be cut down or out completely. I felt like in the last 10 minutes they suddenly thought “oh yeah, we need to link this to Wizard of Oz, best turn some characters into characters from there”. Great singing, acting, dancing etc but the story fell flat for me.

@@lucyycul22 I feel like since they'll take the books as basis we might have more story in them so they can have their new songs for nominations. I also feel like the only way you can improve that rapid shift is why drawing it out a bit. Probably there needs to be a lot more story between Fiero becoming the scarecrow and the end.

Oh, I agree with Pretty Woman and I love Andy Carl and Orfeh. But the music was so bland and didn't move the plot at all, and it really was just the screenplay . It was cringey.
