This interview did an incredible job of humanizing her and giving us valuable insight into her perspective. It makes so much sense that she used tennis to prove herself in a way that couldn’t be accredited to the family she was born into. Subsequently being the first freshman class of women at Yale, being rejected a job in the NFL immediately after college, and then watching her mother in the board rooms leading up to her becoming principal owner has primed her for this job to a degree I can’t even fathom. She’s got a glorious chip on her shoulder to prove both herself and the Lions franchise, and I now have no question that the great hires she’s made were far from serendipitous.

I think the old owners get a bum rap. There's a difference between not wanting to win and not knowing how to win. The lions always have had top facilities and they've done it without taxpayer money and they have always spent what's needed to be spent too fill out a roster. There was a reputation amongst the Fords of being cheap in the early eighties but by 1990 that was totally not true and that was back when they had unlimited free agency with no salary cap

I remember being at the silver dome in Pontiac and the was a Holiday in about a mile from the stadium and that where the Lions and a lot of times the team they were playing would stay there, at the time we didn’t know this a we booked our room this was 1992 I believe and I remember seeing the team there and we met Barry and Spielman and Mel Grey and Bennie Blades and Scott Mitchell and on Sunday befor the Mr Ford and his family came to the Hotel for the team’s breakfast and I remember seeing Ms Shelia Ford that day. At the time had no clue who she was but now I remember seeing her there, I was 13 years old and I never would have thought it would take almost 30 years for my team to finally get it right and the team would run the way it should be and it would be that young woman in the lobby I saw that day. At that time I never would have believed it, a woman running the Lions and that she would run the team better than anyone before her. I’m thankful times have changed and Ms Ford it now in charge.

Well, as a 55+ year Lion fan, I have to admit that I hated the Ford Family with a passion as we watched our beloved team wallow in utter incompetence for all those years. I have to now apologize, as this last glorious season has made up for all of the 55 prior years of horror. And, we seem to be in a spot where we can build ourselves up for at least a 3-4 year run. If we ever win the Super Bowl, words will not be able to express what I, and a lot of my fellow friends/fans will feel.

She's definitely learned from her parents' mistakes, who work good and smart people but just did not lead the organization well. Not to be morbid, but I wonder who her successor would be if something happened (she's 71)? Bill Jr seems to feel more obligated to the FMC, tho I know he would love to do it...
