I am a hyperpolyglot gigachad alpha male who is so attractive. I speak so many languages that it isn't even fathomable by the average monolingual beta. If you are a monolingual beta, you should be looking forward to my book.

@@marat_a Well, the same superfamily, proto-indoeuropean (PIE). But so is Hindi, Latin and Persian, there's a lot of variance. Technically English is Germanic and Russian is Slavic. The tree looks like PIE -> Proto-Germanic -> West Germanic -> Anglosaxon -> English PIE -> Proto-Slavic -> Old Slavonic -> East Slavic (or Rus') -> Russian So the most common ancestor was around 2-3000 b.c.

@@alonsoACR Of course. I mean as a native russian speaker I see a lot of similarities between russian and english. Ive found that even 24% of words share the same root (and that really helped me to learn english to my intermediate level - many basic words sounds far relative). Sentence construction is close enough to be understood intuitively (unlike, for example, german). Speaking about the russian, this language have a lot of grammatic rules and probably theres no need to learn all of them in the beginning (or at all). Moreover, grammatics can help to learn it. For example, there are 2 (main) words of different roots in english to describe processes with manipulating the door: open and close. While in russian you can learn the root (kryt) and 2 prefixes: ot-kryt and za-kryt'. Much easier that it always says, isnt it?

Beaver! And I agree with you that the Slavic languages are awesome. ❤ I’m three weeks into Ukrainian, and having learned a little bit of Russian a few years ago, Ukrainian is breaking my brain in a glorious way. (Letter G is actually a H...! 😮) Next year I’ll tackle Bulgarian. 😅

3:08 It would be good to teach them Basque, it is only spoken in a region in the north of Spain, it has no correlation with any other known language, and it is very likely that the alien already knows something or that their ancestors came and spread Basque.

That moment, when you've just spent several hours to learn russian "on company time". 😂 I don't want to know how much I was paid for learning cases today, covered a shift on sunday, that usually pays off very well but there was little to be done. As a mechanic I need to make sure everything keeps running and if it does, there is plenty of time left that can be filled with learning grammar and vocab instead. Ok, it could have been filled with some other stuff too, but since my bosses aren't around on sundays, nobody knows how much time was left actually. 😅
