THANK YOU FOR SAYING 25' MAX I have used these to inspect hulls - they are great (I have access to a high-pressure inflator). I also have crewed on a dive boat. Someone had a malfunction & swam up from 40' or so (it was not a deep dive) and everything was fine for about 10 seconds. After the gasping they then got flush and semi lost consciousness as they were lassoed into the boat. Not fun. If they were without a support boat (& several strong crew) - it could be a tragedy. This can be used as a standalone device - just use it like a skindiver - don't dive farther than you could if you had only your breath. Also - remember to breathe out as you surface. Some divers carry bags of sand & buoyancy so they can dump the sand, exhale and still surface easily.

Yes, thanks for this, I almost regretted buying the Smaco 400 pro (which I think wasn't yet available when you made this), as I suspected having the pressure gauge separate doesn't justify the nearly double in price over Dedepu - but was happy to see my intuition about the .5 liter confirmed by you. Suscribed.

Wow, Great information, thank you,, I was about to buy one of these, we have a cottage on Lake Superior, they advertise 15 to 20 min breath time. I am Not certified although, I did get training in Mexico and I have dived several time safety. But not in a while. You've convinced me Not to buy one of these so Thank you, you probably saved my life. I'll stick to snorkeling off our beach instead.

Dude, thanks for the comment. I am taking this to Hawaii in two weeks and seeing just how well it does on the reef. Honestly, super dangerous. I was teaching my 12 year old the safely and it hit me just how much the average person is unaware of the dangers. Thanks again!

I'd get certified instead. It's worth the few days it takes and you'll enjoy diving for an hour.

I have both of those. I only use them to clean the tranducers and thru hull fittings change zincs. Hill inspections cut rope of props Or retreive someones phone or keys. Yes I am PADI Scuba Instructor.

I have this for use in my home pool for short dives to retrieve items or basic maintenance. I would never recommend this for open water diving!

Thanks! Just released a 2 liter dive tank review this week.

The 2 L models are out! will you be reviewing any of them? I got mostly 8-12 mins out of my 1L with constant movement.

Once you descend...you are experiencing more pressure than 1 ATM...at 30ft...you are at 2 atms...so you still are not breathing air at sea level pressures. At 2 atms...you have 1/2 of the air supply that you started with...so if you think you have 9-10 mins of air...and as you said you only got 6-1/2 mins...you only have 4-5 mins or maybe 3 mins. These are definitely killers...

ATR great video! Also wanted to ask, so the blue filter attached to the bike pump isn't doing a great job if you say the air still tastes like oil, no? I thought it was allegedly an oil/water filter to keep the air dry and clean....

Yeah, not so good. Check out the channel about a month or two ago. I did a video with Minidive brand tanks. Way better and the pump is electric

So as diver i would suggest using this tank at max 4 meters or less, only dive in shallow waters, also how much air you will use depending on how deep you are, if you could stay 20 mins at 1 meter doesn't mean that same time you will be able to be at lets say 5 meters, since the deeper you go the air consumption will increase, best is used in pool to experience some sort of scuba experience to be most safest, because if you will try somewhere else besides shallow waters, and passing more than 5 meters, you will have certain risks of things going bad.

I have dived more than once with a professional tank. this tiny 1L product is interesting. it is actually not certified. only if you and I are certified for reason? knives are also sold in stores and yet you can get hurt with them? I really liked the advice of the host of this film. they were reasonable. I think a lot of people can try to play with it. and if someone likes it, they will choose professional equipment and certification.

Honestly I don’t think the tank is a bad thing. And I think the quality is there. There are some nitpicks but overall I’m taking it with me on my next vacation. My point is when it comes to stuff like this because you use knives as an example, people understand inherently knives can kill people. People don’t understand that breathing compressed air underwater if surfacing incorrectly can do just as much damage of not worse. So I think that fallacy is false. Thanks for the positive comments about the advice. I think people will do what ever they want anyway, I’m just trying to reduce the risk

SMACO scuba tank has DOT/CE certification.

A person who is in shape has a greater lung capacity and their muscles require more oxygen. In a panic or without experience a healthy person would deplete this faster.

It’s going to be comparable to the size of the tank. An example would be if you have a Tank with 3 ft.³ of air, a 80 ft.³ tank of air can be divided for a rough estimate. But you have to understand that the moment you start emptying the tank, the pressure will drop. So you may not be able to get the maximum 3000 psi after a few tanks. So you could do 3000 psi, and then the next one may be 2950, the next one may be 2900, so you’ll never be able to fully fill it every single time because the pressure in the 80 square-foot tank will drop each time. That being said you should be able to fill it up at least 8-10 times

If you are considering using any kind of scuba you should at least put the effort in to learning some of the physics and physiology that diving brings with it. If you intend to decant air from one cylinder to another then you should learn Boyle's Law which covers pressure and volume. P1 x V1 = P2 x V2 So your (80cft)12liter tank at 200bar gives you 2400lts of free air. If a 1lt bottle is decanted from that tank then both will equalise out at 185bar or 2719psi - THE FIRST TIME. Each subsequent decant will give/leave with you less in both tanks. I have been a professional diver for 50 years - navy, offshore oil saturation diver, commercial diver trainer and even a PADI instructor so I have a pretty good handle on this shit 😂. Anyway, this is a pretty sound video with lots of sense 👍

Thanks for the informative and great video. Im not a diver but I have started kayak fishing offshore and I do worry about having to swim a mile or more back to shore if I flip over and my yak floats too fast and far away. Ive been wondering if having one of these would he useful to keep on my pdf if I go overboard and im forced to swim back to shore would be a good idea. The information in your video will help me from reducing any mistakes I could make if I purchase this.

better get a swim vest if you are worried about that. That thing helps breathing under the water but it doesn’t help with long swims it just slows you down.

Just get a snorkel.... You can swim indefinitely that way. Get a decent snorkel that has a dry top ball valve. A full face snorkel mask would make it very easy to carry and deploy in an emergency. You can get a suitable mask for less than $50 all day.

4:57 - Could you give a quick rundown of the math? My thoughts: PV = nRT, so at the same pressure and ending temperature, you need exactly twice the the number of moles for the 1 L tank, right? That leaves the only* possible variable to be the pump losing efficiency for some reason on the larger volume. At 200 bar and 273 K, you'd put in about 7.5 mmol of air per pump on average for the 1 L tank, and 10.3 mmol/pump for the 0.5 L tank. *Okay, the other variable is that I'm missing something, which is more than likely in my experience. XD

ok... it's really fun to figure ideal gas however in the diving world it's a waste of thought to go to indepth. For mole and effect of Avogadro’s law, it is possible to predict volume changes and therefore breathable gas by temperature, right? well not really. The mathematics are not the short coming. The varation in the real world can never be calculated to and specific degree. A very basic example is a diver with a SAC rate of .75 that sees his friat tiger shark. As for temperature, how warm was the tank, how warm is the surface, what is the rate of cooling, where are the thermoclines etc

Was looking to buy the .5L as an emergency... I work with vehicles that have the 'likelihood' of sinking... and was wondering if this would be suitable for an extra couple of minutes to help get out of the vehicle and get to the surface.

Yes, it's a good idea. I'm an offshore oil diver and when traveling offshore on helicopters sometimes these wee Pony bottles are issued to each passenger for the duration of the flight. However, EVERYONE gets trained in their use - even us divers.

Out of the 2 1L tanks -which do you like better the Smaco or the Dedepu?

This was the best video I think I've ever seen. I wanted to buy one of these so bad just to do a little snorkeling around the beach. I can say now these are not for me and personally I think they shouldn't be sold to the public. people need to go to classes and learn the proper safety.

So I lost a GoPro about 20ft deep in a quarry and bought a Dedepu 1L to try and dive down and reach it. After finally pumping it up, i wanted to test it in my pool first but whenever I open the little red knob ontop, I can breath but all the air starts spewing out from the knob. Any idea what might be causing this or how I can fix it?

Sounds like a faulty tank. There’s no reason air should leak from the knob. It can happen with liver points on the hose and regulator which is why they provide extra O rings. I’d say sent it back for another

Funny about the lead-belt. First time I dived was using a tank from a diver that had left 15 minutes and wanted to use my windsurf rig. He forgot to give me the lead-belt and I could not get deeper as 1 meter :-) I have succeeded diving lessons (the first level) but my ears did not like it so I did not go on. A friend is a dive instructor and I also dived with him to improve my technic regarding the ear pressure clearing. Upto 2 meter is no problem but not deeper. The only positive thing was I used very little air. Even less as my friend. I am interested in this bottle + pump to have something that I can use in an emergency situation on a sailboat (like getting a rope from a screw) and to inspect the hull and rudder) So max 2 meters but most times less then 1 meter. Is it save to use for such situations ?

Yeah, actually I think it would be perfect in a situation like that. Especially because your goal is just to breathe while you’re getting out. I just released another video on a slightly larger bottle two days ago, if you’re interested in a little more time for rescue.

I had nothing and went deep. The best method to go up is slow and easy. That at least won’t kill you if you have an extreme headache from pressure

Any other certified divers in here looking for a cheap pony to top off with nitrox and stow on a side strap on the bcd? This will be purely a spair air for me to clip to the bc, which would you recommend? I'm leaning more towards the one with the regulator on the bottle, not the one with a line just to limit entanglements with things strapped to my arms, and the two second stage lines? Thoughts?

This is straight from my buddy who is a dive master/instructor “well... I guess that depends. I'm looking for some good tires. What do you recommend? You'd obviously have some more questions. I'll assume at this point he is recreational diving shallow side of 100 since he mentioned Nitrox. I would hope he selects a bottle with a regulator as 2500-3500psi is a bear to breath straight (paul walker made it look sexy). I'm guessing he meant a second stage regulator fixed to the bottle like the cheapo Chinese hero kits. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone strap reg hoses to their arms and I've dove with some dumbshits. A pony bottle is not affixed to a bc if you hope to have any usefulness but rather strapped to the back bottle. And yes you need a hose so you don't have to remove your kit, disconnect the bottle, then start breath paul style during an emergency. Does he think the hose is going to entangle him like a rogue octopus and drag him to the depths? He has probably seen a Google picture of a bottle strapped to the side of a tech diver. This is called a stage bottle. The gear intensity grows as you start adding bottles which is why people start small. It is too intense without experience. What would I do? Well that depends on the mission. I run 2 full redundant systems under ice. 3 bottles is a good solution. 3 levels of safety on any dive though not always 3 mounted bottles. I run a single bottle with a mounted pony on shallow solo warm dives and use the surface as a planned redundant. I run twinset back or sidemount on deeper/colder dives. I could talk about this for hours. My recommendation for him... Get a competent buddy, get some additional training, crawl walk run. If he wants some specific recommendation, I need some details on the mission.”

i have the exactly same pump, but that is bought for pcp air rifle, and yeah, when going above 160 bar, i have to put my whole bodyweight on it to get anything into the tube

what depth would you recomend to a non exprienced freediver in meters im curios because i had to dive 3.8 meters in a row with a short break to get some air to get scuba goolgle from others that fell into the pool and i had no big issue with the depth i was diving 2 times in on vacation once and felt pretty comfortable with the scuba gear but not a certifided diver would you still recomend the 1 liter to someone who has some exprience with diving

I wouldn't go deeper than 5 meters with these. Going deeper significantly increases the air consumption (at 10m you have half the time you had on the surface). If you're interested, just get Open Water certified. You'll have much more fun for much longer, and you'll understand the actual risks of a device like this.

Is there a safety brief or training involved? I can just see it as a law suit if there is nothing hard lined set in place. I did a review on Mini Dive tanks. Those are higher quality

As a full-time and longtime professional diver my advice is to avoid all these "quickfix short cut" toy diving outfits. Go and get yourself properly trained and certified and then you'll know if you really want to play at being a diver or not. It may be a little expensive but the bonus is that you probably won't kill yourself😏 One thing you fail to mention is whether these Chinese made cylinders are actually hydrostatically tested and 'In Dãte'. - are they? 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Honestly as a backup would question the depths of the dive. Normally, for myself and my buddy who is a tech diver, the spare is 19 liters as a back up because the depths could reach lower than 80 feet, and 1 liter is not enough at that depth to get out safety. However, 1 liter is better than none, and most dive on No back up at all.

@@allthingsrandom8137 Yeah, I agree. A 13 or 19 as a real backup. The 1L would just be an emergency device, if my buddy is too far away or distracted. It would allow to approach the buddy and make a safe ascent together with his spare octopus. - Or it would help to ascent if I'm at around 50-60 ft I guess.

when you are thinking is 1L drysuit argon bottle is enough capacity and then its sold as a primary when my bailout is 3L 300 bar, I can understand that this in not meant to be used a depth but you can only think they are marketing it to people that aren't certified and want to try it selling it with a bicycle pump and a particle filter attached I guess there is the whole argument of even 5 breaths is enough to get to your dive buddy but if you are going to the trouble of mounting it to bc or backplate or slinging it surly just get a 3L? Good review tho informative for those that think it would be good fun to try without knowing the dangers

So I think this is extremely dangerous, and I did a video re-reviewing both the 1 L and. 5 L. And even worse so I have a 2 L smaco dive tank that I am reviewing this weekend. Which I find far more dangerous. Because the larger the tanks, the more false confidence people get, and the more likely they are to get hurt. Stay tuned

@@allthingsrandom8137 I totally agree. I've read so many comments that these things are death traps but actually their true redeeming feature is their small size. I don't think there's enough air to dive deep/long enough to dissolve enough nitrogen in your body to be dangerous. A 3L tank would allow someone to dive deeper and longer and possibly get the bends if they don't ascend safely. I'm planning on buying the 1l for using in Greece soon. Do you think dive shops would fill it for me (for a fee) as I am a qualified advanced open water diver?

You can use whatever, I would prefer a weight belt because the center mass is around your waist which allows buoyancy to be easily compensated for

SMACO has passed ISO 9001, BSCI, TUV, certification. Products have the appearance & invention & practical patents of China, EU, Australia and the United States etc. It has passed the professional certification of CE, ROHS, DOC, FDA,PPE and so on. What most people are failing to realize is that All tanks holding compressed gas are certified in North America to required regulations. Mini tanks like these are in a different category from scuba tanks but its the only way these can be sold, think of SpareAir (40+ years and still selling). The scuba industry does not regulate any tank manufacturing, it is DOT in USA or TC in Canada that sets the requirements. I did check before doing this video and the tanks are certified for sale in North America and around the world. Believe me. If you try taking ANY tank down further than what it is capable of and designed for, is always dangerous. You don’t need walnuts for brains to figure that one out. Wether a full sized scuba tank or a spare air scuba tank. SMACO tanks are just as safe as the Boeing 737 you take when you go on vacation.

Can anyone point me to an ascending explainer video of why ( which I get, you’re increasing positive pressure on your lungs the higher you go) but I’m more concerned with technique

The issue with that is the filtration system on those type of homes are poor, so you’re breathing in dirty air. Also not many things off her high pressure up to 3000 psi unless it’s specially modify

Dont use it if your not certified? Don’t hold your breath and don’t surface faster than your air bubbles and don’t let pressure build up on your ears covers everything you need to know to use it safely. If someone was nervous or unsure could do the 1 day PADI course and cover the basics.

The trouble with a full size tank is that it will enable you to dive for much longer increasing the chance of decompression sickness, especially if you are untrained. The beauty of the small tank is that you can only dive for a few minutes so nitrogen build up is much less of an issue.

It’s not for snorkeling. Even though it’s small, it requires all the safety precautions for any scuba diving. They were originally sold as emergency safety gear for capsized vessels, firefighters, and backup air for divers. These are not toys. Please use them responsibly, life is on the line.

@@It-b-Blair As an owner of a smaco tank, certified scuba diver and research nerd, I can tell you this: your referring to Spare air Rebreathers Man overboard capsule Each one of these are different. What we are talking about is bought from eBay. There’s no training provided. Sold with a hand pump. Called an oxygen bottle 😂 Dideep, smaco and many unbranded versions for sale. Buy and go. Don’t take it deeper than 3-5 meters as tank is too small

You should never dive without a diving insurance, but I doubt if any insurance company would insure diving with this kind of equipment.

1l too small, 2l or 3l would be better

bet there is a shit load of views in building a rig to run that pump on electric motor and a fly wheel. if you make it a slow moving motor high torque ? i am day dreaming forgive me lol - I know a take refilling set up for the sail boat was like 6k so guess I'm looking for a cheep way out not looking to go down more than 30 40 feet.

May as well get a mini 12v dive-safe compressor for your car and be done in 10 minutes… enough time to drink water, take care of your finds, and use the lou!

which hookah gear would you recommend? There's a lot of new companies out there now that lithium is ubiquitous.

i think anything below 19cf is just not going to work in a emergency at depth. if i am at 30m and need the pony bottle you need to be able to get back to the surface slowly a probably do a safety if not a deco stop because you where being stupid.

Yeah, I don’t disagree with you. A lot of times that’s what a lot of my buddies run is a 19 ft.³ tank as a back up. They are specifically tech divers, but most basic PADI divers don’t even use backups

That’s worthless for a scuba diver. Furthermore, non certified divers should avoid using those devices. A pulmonary over expansion needs only 1m to happen. 30 ft is too much. 10 feet should be max and even then, accidents can happen. Not many people can surface from 30 feet while panicked! I am a Divemaster by the way. Those things are ok to play in the pool, nothing more. Also please stop giving scuba advises online regarding injuries, weight belts, etc. You can’t teach diving on a 20mn video and you are obviously not certified to do so so again, please stop. There’s a serious risk of drowning with those stupid little toys.

That’s why it’s not marketed for scuba divers. Obviously you can’t give advise in a 20 minute video. The point is, people will use it anyway. Better give the dangers and some advise, then none at all. Even worse. Smaco sent me a 2 liter dove tank that will be out in 2 weeks. Far more dangerous than the small ones, as the size of the tank will give too much confidence for injury

@@allthingsrandom8137 I think you could just highlight the dangers instead, that might detract people from getting hurt or worse. I know you have good intentions but hearing you talking, folks might still get the wrong message. That thing is labeled as a toy but it isn’t. Imagine a non-certified average 45 year old whose mask floods at 30 feet… doesn’t know how to clear it, has a weight belt now keeping him down, starts panicking, etc… difficult situation. Dive safe.

​@@eldiabolico3750 unless the person listening isn't good in English, what he says it's pretty clear especially the risks. I'm also a certified scuba diver.
