Interesting to see that everyone non-Japanese is trying to copy Japanese style and keep very minimalistic and uncluttered places, but the real Japanese places you feature are somewhat cluttered

That's an interesting and true observation. I know that Japandi is in at the moment in the west and that shares the core philosophies that both styles have. I guess maybe it's more to do with space being a premium in the city in Japan, and maybe the wabi sabi approach? When it comes down to storage they are very innovative, both the traditional Kyoto homes and the uber modern Tokyo appartments are a great example. A house that is a little busy (not too much) and well lived, is one that is warm, inviting and homely 😊

That is my experience also. The mindset is more driven towards a balance and not towards an ideal. It's okay if a home looks like a home to someone and not like an empty hotel room. Especially with families, there's often not a lot of furniture considering how many items we surround ourselves with in modern society.

That’s the difference between showcasing photo/videography and real life. Often times magazine and videos presents the perfect zen environment - but in reality especially with young kids it’s never the case. Even Marie Kondo has admitted defeat.

I really love how Japanese integrate nature in their urban living.

I had watched all of them and It was a pleasure watch it again.

As a Japanese and has been watching NTS for a long time, I have been waiting to see when NTS would come to Japan, and I am glad to see that they are taking it up so often these days.

My favourite is the mother and son house. So very lovely!

It’s good to see someone isn’t minimalist this channel. It’s more realistic.

In the first video I cannot believe how much is in a small space and also I loved the outside garden and the kitty free to roam and inspect the plants....

I love Japanese houses. It's somehow inspiring to watch how they come up with the ideas and then make them real. I also love the little spaces around where they live, especially the Tsubo house's space where the homeowner puts out a chair and sits.

Ived worked in japan in tech even with high education, not everyone can speak english as well as this father and son, the father is really good speaker and the son is excellent ❤

Wonderful mix of small Japanese homes, always very inspiring to watch these modern builds and adore the Japanese style over all, both new and old (especially the older traditional Kyoto style). I can't help but notice very intetestingly that what we call the gorgeous 'Japandi' style here in the west, seems to be the modern standard style in Japan, is this correct to say? It seems to have commonalities now that concrete/stone, alternative lighter shades of wood and glass has become more popular for building over there, the lines seems to be blurred? Thank you for the upload and hope to see some more in the future 😊

The architecture of this building is my personal favorite of any anywhere. I have been fascinated by it for a long time.

I love that they don’t make large or private bedrooms a priority. Togetherness and nature are at the forefront.

The only thing I even liked about the second home is the kid's album showing is one of my favorites?! Jim Croce 💙💙💙 Otherwise, having a "bedroom" that's basically the couch is less than ideal for a kid growing up...they do need some bedroom privacy once they hit their tweens.

I always wonder how these small spaces with unfinished details manage to stay clean. They're beautiful and clever, but I imagine spaces like Tokyo Blue must get so dusty!

The first house must be more than 19 sq meters. That is only 204 sq ft. They have fitted so much in!! I love the fish grill. The bed is Queen size. It is amazing

Well planned space but the clutter could been planned hidden as well. I like wide sliding doors having frames, despite it bigger than the size of the wall.

The Japanese have such limited space for housing this just demonstrates the flexibility and maximising what can be a very tight squeeze .. my fave was the second home..so simple and light..nothing needed altering…😊

Some great designs here but does the love house seem very dangerous to anyone else? That narrow staircase and the 2 sliding doors that open on the top floor and the tall void for the tree 😮

They're lounging on the concrete & I'm like, where's the sofa! Honestly, though, it wouldn't matter because I would have done myself in within 5 minutes of arriving due to the stairs & lack of railings. I agree, it's very dangerous.

When I got the keys to the apartment without refurbishment, I was confused by how small it seemed. After refurbishing, the concrete walls became beige, white, and in some places, dark blue. The perceived space of the apartment almost doubled. Do not leave it in concrete. It makes your life feel cramped.

There are many borrowed words from English which they usually write in Katakana (angular style writing). Hiragana is for traditional Japanese words and for kids learning how to write. Kanji are the characters which is like the Chinese writings. I reckon the "Japanized" English words would be written the same in Kanji since it's more symbolic.

How many times have the residents of 6 Tsubo been walked in on by other people while in the middle of taking a dump? Love the front door and whole exterior though.

I'd be worried about the washing machine in the first clip, it needs space to spin and rumble, and for airflow to avoid overheating. I'd always give things with electronics their own space.

So all this humbling frugality… only to destroy and build a new one in 20 years?!

The order of the clips doesn't match the chapter names... 6 Tsubo and Love2House were switched, it seems.

omg, I can't watch anymore. That poor mother. I understand this is supposed to display the design of a home but I just cannot ignore the obvious... the son who has overtaken the Mothers house and shoved her in a tiny closet style bedroom behind the laundry. Yuk.

I would feel like the most BLESSED of Mothers 🙏🏽 👵🏽 If I had a Son who would Not FIRST Consider throwing me into some SMELLY God Forsaken **Old Folks Home** but instead would be Loving and Kind enough to make it Possible for me to have my OWN room with a Comfortable Bed, space for personal things AND a separate private entrance to the bathroom!!! This would be a Dream Come True for many Elderly Parents who are Not so Fortunate to have such a Son but are just THROWN AWAY and forgotten to live their remaining years in Loneliness and despair 😢

Very monochrome and to me, very bland. Colors are mostly absent, utilizing gray, white, and metal. The dwellings are very narrow and high-ceilinged, with a definite lack of windows. I bet there's an echo! Because of all this, combined with the absent color, I found almost each home to be depressing. I can't imagine being a child in this atmosphere. Good use of color stimulates the mind. I do find the clever use of space to be an excellent way to tuck away everything a person needs but doesn't want under foot. However, space-saving storage can't make the house into a home.
