Why is a hospital shipping victims to other hospitals?

Not all hospitals are built the same. Some are trauma centers (and there's multiple levels to trauma centers and their capabilities), some are pediatric trauma centers, some are stroke centers, some are cardiac centers, some are built with multiple certifications, etc. etc. They aren't sending out patients to other hospitals because they don't want to treat the patient - they send them out for better, definitive care that said hospital cannot provide. BELIEVE ME, if they could have avoided sending them out, they wouldn't have sent them out... hospitals are in the business to make money (most, not all).
