SKIP TO THE COMPARISON: 16:43 or • 1 DAY 1 BIKE - Ducati ...
---
Alright friends! Those who care will find two different things to read here. First a couple of words about the video and secondly, a written résumé about my time with the Multistrada Enduro!
***
THIS VIDEO: I didn't have this "1 DAY 1 BIKE" format in mind when I was riding around on the Multi. My only intention was to record decent RAW videos for you guys. I guess I did and there are several ones to come here later this year. It actually was an accident I had my microphone still plugged into my camera and installed inside my helmet from recording the BMW GS vlog the day before. It's why I have these "vlog bits" made during the day before I went for the 'actual vlogging tryout' near the end of it.
I have the selfie stick clips because I always record them for a potential season best-of video which I usually like to edit together at some point.
Back at home I didn't know what to do with it though. I went through the 'earlier vlogging bits' and thought they were too entertaining to throw them away. Then I realized I could combine everything I had into one big video. Of course it's not ideal because I didn't intend to do this in the first place. But I'd like to try it again with other bikes next year. I then will add shots of the parked bike taken with bigger cameras rather showing the significant details of the bike. And of course cut down length in half probably. But I think documenting a whole day on a bike while using motovlogging, selfie stick, RAW bits, and bike porn shots techniques could be a lot more exciting to watch than a video out of one obvious category - what do you think?
***
THE BIKE: To make this very clear since I'm afraid I didn't manage to do so while vlogging: I absolutely loved riding the Multistrada. I had more fun riding the Multi than the BMW. But at the same time I stick to my words from the video saying that the BMW is the better bike. I think the BMW GS is superior from a technological point of view. Its suspension is more sovereign. It's more stable. Its engine and gear box are brilliant. Smooth and so easy to operate.
But the Multistrada is pouring on the Italian charm. It invites you to have a little MORE fun, maybe even this kind of fun you only find on the wild side of things. I said the Multi's got better agility and that's very important to me too. The additional power is not that important to me but still I learned that if there is this much power available I will also use it in the end. And yes, I absolutely loved this mindblowing power output. And yes, even I have to admit it's quite beautiful. At least when compared to the other big travel enduros. To sum it all up:
The Ducati Multistrada got me on the emotional side of things. Which is a very big and important one when it comes to my bikelife. Admittedly being in Alto Adige, my happy place, played a huge role too. But compared to the fun I had on both days I'd simply have to go for the Ducati. Because I had more of MY KIND OF FUN with it. Should I ever get to a point in my life where I can afford such things and had to choose between those two I'd take the Multi. I'm fairly confident I'd end up getting angry with it very often but - even because of that - the times in which I'm enjoying it would be 3 times more intense :)

Awesome! It was great to watch a video like that, mixing talks, raw footages, landscapes and music... 😍 I can understand why you say that the GS is better but you had more fun with the MS. It seems to me that German engineers look for perfection, while the Italian ones look for emotion. Both approaches make sense anyway, and they are 2 fantastic bikes for sure.

Loved it when you tried the passenger seat. I have the ms pikes peak now and man, I feel like a teenager in love. The best bike, the most striking looks, but, above all, the most fun motorbike I have ever owned or rode. Never a dull moment, it's just fun and more fun every second riding it. Unbelievable. Schaaf, I am yet to watch the full video but I just had one question, where do you keep the selfie stick after you are done recording? Do you stop your bike and put it in bag etc or do you have a handy place to put it? I wanted to do the same in my previous ride, but I just couldnt figure out a place to keep the selfie stick without stopping the bike.

Awesome comparison, really liked this style of video, even though it probably took over an hour to watch with all the pauses to read throught. P.S. For the last 7 months a have a Aprilia ETV1000 Caponord, with modified suspension and ECU, and have done 22500km on it so far (Nordkapp, Nordschleife...). Really love its long travel suspension and power delivery. The friendliest Wilhems in the world. And thinking about Multistrada S as an upgrade.

I found the Monster 1200 had a similar quirk with the throttle dependent on the mode selection. Particularly sitting still at idle, there is an electronic 'dead zone' which seems to disappear when you put the thing in gear. They're fantastic bikes. I'm a big fan of that engine.

I did test ride both Multistrada versions (1200 S and Enduro) as well as both GS versions (GS and GS adventure). I do love ALL of the four bikes BUT in summary the GS wins. The price tag is almost the same but the service cost of the Ducati was the breaking point. This Desmo Service costs 1200,- to 2000 Euros they said... As I´m a smaller guy, the normal GS is just fine for me, so I ordered a R1200GS triple black MY 2017! :) Just my two Cents

Maybe this is already answered. But you can get electronic cruise control, to any bike, old or new, Brg morten. Ps I love the look off the ducati. And I would love the power, but the gs will not be sold for any Italian bike. I think you could use the power of the ducati. Nice skills. 👍

Don't want to make you guys mad but I was looking for a touring bike in Pennsylvania, found a 2011 multistrada 1200s touring with all service records and lots of add ons seat, luggage rack, lights, crash bars, carbon rear fender. White one. I think the 40.000 miles scared folks away from it. Since my last Ducati st2 had 197.000 miles on it, I went for it ! 6 grand 😎🏍🏍🏍🍻

I don't recommend bike rentals in general. I can only recommend the ones I've tested. The Highbike Testcenter I can recommend because their prices and rental conditions are very fair compared to most others. Just make sure to ask before hand if you're allowed to scrape parts or not ;)

Hab meine vorgestern abgeholt :). Vorher 190kg MT09, jetzt 230kg 1190 Adventure....
