$1,700 Apartment Vs. $40,000 Apartment

"Babe. I got this spot."
In Worth It: Lifestyle Season 2, a spin off of BuzzFeed’s hit series Worth It, host Steven Lim and his buddies embark on a new adventure, setting out to try different experiences at three different price points: affordable, middle tier, and luxury--from airplane seats to cars to videos games. At the end of the episode, the gang decides which experience is the most “worth it” at its given price.

Born in raised just 30 minutes shy of NYC, 1700 is actually very decent for any apartment in the city. You can usually find want ads for rooms for 1400 - 1700. Also, have to remember wages in NYC can be significantly higher depending on the field. But i don't think I would ever spend 40K to rent anything.

In Minnesota you can rent a luxury townhouse with 18 foot vaulted ceilings, brand new kitchen, 3 floors, 3000 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, maintenance free and you get that all for 1600 per month.

Susan yep. I live in Cologne, which is quite expensive compared to the rest of Germany. My apartment is similar to the Brooklyn one and located pretty central without the garden and I pay 550€ (650$) per month. That Brooklyn rent is almost half my net wage. 😱

FYI: in NYC, you need to make 40x your rent in salary to be considered a good choice for an apartment. So $1,700 monthly rent should equal a salary of at least $68,000 a year. Now you see why people still live with family after they graduate from college or have many roommates to share a place. smh If it wasn't for subsidized housing, this city would be practically empty----nobody could afford to live here. How much do you think the guy delivering your Chinese take out on a bike makes; can you imagine how he must live??
