Awesome figure worked out to the smallest detail, including the typical thistle on the helmet. The first war is often unfairly neglected, although it is true that ww2 was more interesting, but the ww1 was such a springboard for all other wars of larger proportions. Anyway as I write, very nice figure and I wish you a happy new year 2024, be creative like now :)

that stuff on the rifle is kinda like rust yeah. whatever mix of metals they use that tends to happen when it gets wet. i had a few of my wood and metal rifles from did and soldier story do that when a flood happen near here and some of my figures got damaged . and yeah, pleather flaking into dust always sucks. battlegear toys has some nice actual leather pieces you can sorta use as replacements for some of your stuff if you're willing to pay 20$ a piece per item. brown kar pouches, brown belts you can transfer over the buckle on to, brown tanish Japanese boots that look like the same ones on your figs
