1/48 Tamiya P-51C Video Build

Ойын-сауық

This full build video of the excellent 1/48 Tamiya P-51B/C Mustang highlights the great fit and engineering of this kit. I also show how to use simple but advanced finishing techniques to convert and finish this kit into a unique model of an RAAF Mustang from 3 Squadron based in Italy in 1944-45.

    do you apply the white spirit directly on the acrylic paint, without any varnish, when you apply oil based washes? Sees like it, but I want to check before trying and ruining it on my Tamiya P51 Mustang III.

  • @FlyingSModels

    @FlyingSModels

    3 жыл бұрын

    Always good to check. Yes, I put it right over the acrylic paint. If you put a gloss coat on first, you won't get the same results. The oils won't work into the paint like they will with the flat acrylics. But certainly try a test piece first. Definitely don't want you to mess up a nice P-51 model that you no doubt have built.

    Nice build! I do wonder, in general, why pretty much every build I've seen has the main inner landing gear doors open. If it's just started, taxiing, or just landed, those door would be shut. 🤔

  • @FlyingSModels

    @FlyingSModels

    2 күн бұрын

    Indeed. But most builds I see don't have a pilot in them so it's unlikely they are depicting a plane that has just started, taxiing, or just landed. Most likely show it like mine, having sat for a bit with the doors dropping from lack of hydraulic pressure. Appreciate the feedback.

    @@FlyingSModels Yep - true. I think I made all my P51s with the MLG doors down too. Only found out about them usually being up when I saw a few YT videos. They are hydraulic, and you'll see them close on an engine start. Also controlled manually by a valve if desired. I think I ready somewhere that the doors will drop on their own accord over time, usually as a result of a leaky valve. 😃

    Thanks! I had always wanted to build this one since the markings were pretty unique. Having the fin filleted Mk.III Mustang is pretty unique as well. Don't rethink you choice, just break out the razor saw and do some surgery. Then you can have a non-filleted tail for a P-51D kit :). Appreciate the feedback and well wishes. Hope the same for you.
