I used to test ship piping systems on 600 class subs at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. That model brings back a lot of memory. I would'nt mind having one of those myself. Nice model
Very cool to see. My grandfather was a sonar man on Skipjack at some point during the late 50s or very early 60s, so this class of boat has a special place in my family.
I love this video. Was smiling like a kid watching it run in your pond. The Skipjack Class SSN has been my favorite submarine from as far back as I can remember and/or the day I got the old Aurora kit for the first time. I bought many iterations of that kit when I was younger as I ended up destroying them sooner or later in our pool. The DeBoer RC kit seems great. Glad to see I'm not the only one mildly fascinated by submarines.
Have a couple friends that were assigned to Skipjacks. They loved them and still have great memories. Great vid!
I was on the Sculpin SSN590 from 84-87, Nuclear Machinist mate. I was one. of the divers and used to do the maneuvering watch on the sail planes. In drydock we had to clean the screw with brass brushes.
Received the photo etch parts today for my 1/72 Skipjack. Can't wait to get started on her. Thanks Subguy! 👍
Immediately want one. My spark for RC boats has come back recently and subs are definitely something I want to try!
I served onboard USS Skipjack from 1986 to 1988. Collectively, the Skipjack class subs were referred to as "S" girls as their names all began with the letter S. MMC(SS) USN Ret.
I was onboard the USS Skipjack SSN 585 during 78-80. It was the first boat I qualified on. Great boat. Great crew.

I love the way you explain, and the camera view with music is like movie...well done. Thanks for the wonderful video. Hobby Marvel
Beautiful detail on the model. It appears that the foreplanes turn opposite of the stern planes, which I hadn't thought of before, but makes sense from a maneuverability standpoint.
Served on Batfish & Grayling, cool model. Thanks for posting.
I’m always so pleasantly impressed by your projects...great job!
Beautiful model and I enjoyed your presentation very much. Thanks for showing your work!
That’s impressive. Looks like hours of fun.
Excellent model. I just happened to come across this video, I was not even aware that RC submarines existed. I found it all very interesting and will take a look at some of your other videos now.
magnetic connectors! I am not a model builder and these may have been around for awhile but WOW.. what a great idea what fun
My dad was stationed on the Shark. Thanks for sharing.
Another great build Bob! I'm a Uboat guy but this 1/48 scale has got my interest in modern boats. Hooah!😁
I served on the Shark from 76 thru 79, your video brought back fond memories.

Impressive bit of kit, nice job 👍🏻 thanks fo sharing
I HAD to watch this vid. When I was a kid, 4th grade or so, I got into models. The Skipjack (never forgot that name) was the very first model I ever built. I was into subs and ships, then planes, while my brother was into cars and monsters. I later got into cars big time...(never cared for the monsters, though...) Funny, as I get older, I realize more and more the truth of the saying..."The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys."
Amazing build and amazing presentation. Great job !
That camera position makes it look like a payload..good stuff!

Was a nuc on Snook SSN 592 76-79, would have shed a tear but couldnt think of any fond memories except the day I departed her. We used to put a noise maker on her (for skimmers) for playing games when we were the rabbit, the camera looked just it. I can think of many times when the rabbit died. ETCM/SS USN (RET)
Impressive and fantastic. Thanks for sharing and explaining. Regards from Denmark
Amazing didn’t know this sort of thing was out there. Great job
Bob, A beautiful model ,thanks for sharing your video. Boats and submarines have always been an interest of mine. I am going to " borrow " the idea for the magnetic couplings on the control surfaces. I am going to try the idea for coupling linkages for my model trains where it needs to come apart easily. Thanks again.
Now that is a real miniature of a submarine! Nicely done sir!
Very impressive, amazing RC Submarine!
That thing is a monster!
Awesome job! Congratulations!
What a great build and a very good video thanks for sharing 😊
Great Job! congratulations for your work impressive and very well presented!
That was really interesting. I've just finished converting a Revell skipjack to RC and this one shares a lot in common with it. I do wish I'd tried to make the sail planes work. I of course made mine the Shark! Great stuff.

"SSN Thresher" was boat 593. Seeing your model brings the destruction of the "Thresher" into startling clarity.
beautiful model...awesome build
That kit came out nice. DeBoer can't be faulted for the hull being incorrect. It was built using the best plans at the time and Dennis did a good job using what he had available.
Very cool! Outstanding!
Awesome, beautiful machine, congratulations!!!
That was totally wicked!
i just remember my dream to make submarine toys and saw this now i will always watch this to learn thanks man
Absolutely wonderful
Very nice modell! Gratulation. I worked 4 jeahrs on german submarine.

Very cool toy. ..Kinda like the Jag F1 in the background.
Great Model, I served aboard The USS SHARK SSN591 in the early 70's

Awesome! My dad was on the Snook 592. The shit they did is crazy!
You always make amazing models that are so realistic, hope to have you build a Permit class some day for me when you get the time, on a side note in the sub service we used to call the skipjack class the Scrap jack class :-)

FYI.....In the Navy, a vessel that can be transported by another vessel is referred to as "A boat". Traditionally, subs have always been referred to as "boats".

Submarines are called boats by submariners and I'm a submariner. You don't understand.
Dive, dive, dive!! It's must be fun
hey I think you do a great job love your channel
thats freakin cool👍🏼🤗
Looks great......😎
Very nice video.. :) Did anyone notice the 7:23 Red Jaguar F-Type in the background? Beautiful looking car!
Nice model. I can see where you would want a little positive buoyancy with the ballast flooded so you could easily retrieve it if the receiver failed or the battery died.
Wow that is so cool, always wondered how it works and what's inside RC Subs. Great video, oh how deep can you go with a RC sub?
This is epic.
First time to see a submarine toy.
nice car!
I like your underwater rc submarine mark 28 sub guy is awesome
awesome !!!
I think she still holds the USN submarine speed record with a 5 bladed screw... a shipmate of mine on Russell 687 - Dusatko an ICman served on Skipjack...
Very cool
สุดยอดเลยครับ 👍👍👍

Parabéns mano
Bob do you have a full build video on this particular skip jack? I just joined my local club and met Sub Ed, he was with you over at the Groton CT fun run, this past Sunday Sept 15 he brought an amazing Sub to run after I saw it I was hooked! I’m loving this particular skip jack as it is NOT too big and looks beautiful and very realistic.
