1/200 Scale Missouri by Trumpeter Build Video 22

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we knock out 99% of the bow detail and assembly. Then we tackle some of the finer points of the railing.

The detail set I am using is from Pontos, which may be hard to find these days.... Just keep checking Amazon to see if one becomes available.

Ben, I just finished watching (over the last few days) this build. I ended up here after watching your USS Arizona build, which was fantastic. That is at the top of my bucket list but I just wanted to say that you really stepped up your game on this one. The Pontos kits are not for the faint of heart but wow, what unbelievable detail! And the Bofors look amazing too. Just a thought for any future window glass, I saw someone ages ago use microscope slide cover slips for window glass. They used it on a building diorama to make broken windows and glass debris. They would be perfect for something like the Bridge windows. I've seen them as thin as 0.04". Would imagine any glue would come off easy. Would like to try it myself someday. Keep up the awesome job. Thanks for your hard work.

As to the railings, the color was the choice of the captain or the shipyard, and varied on most ships. I have even seen the USS Iowa with red, white and blue bunting covering the rails. Historic photos of the Iowa show the railing going in front of the bollards but behind the 'Panama bits'. That could have been changed quit easily, however. Sometimes it seems like one has to build a ship as it was at a certain time. Love the workmanship!

I'm sure that's true, especially with ships that were afloat for many years. The longer their career, the more things would change - particularly paint colours/shades. The same is true with railroad modelling. Some locomotives/rolling stock were in service for more than fifty years so, obviously, colours would change and modifications were made. Fortunately though, few locomotives are *this* size. A lot will depend on your reference photos; how good they are and accurately they are dated. If you have enough information available, it would make good sense to "date" your model or, at least, narrow it down a bit, which I think Ben has done.

Ben, l have been checking some photos of the railings and in particular about the chocks (white items on edge of deck) and seems that railing do not pass infront of them, but is kept clear to allow ropes to go through. Another thing (late comment 🙃) but i noticed that Eduard has a detail set giving pe platforms for gun directors. Rea

I think you’re totally correct. I remember looking at them when I received the kit and thinking man that’s gonna be a pain... then when I stumbled upon that part again in Pontos’ very clear instructions 🙄 I interpreted it differently. Probably because I hadn’t had enough coffee yet. I’m concerned that if I folded them over, that they wouldn’t close properly. The grove isn’t that recessed to totally accommodate the railing. I think I’ll try it to see how it looks for a comparison. But yes, I believe you’re correct and I did it “wrong”. But it did go together easily and after painting, I feel like I have the same affect.

This is a little late, I've been binge watching your Missouri build. On your interior detail on the navigation bridge, what did you use for the wiring?...I was thinking for extra detail I might try using solder, it comes in different sizes, and it's flexibility makes for any bending you could possibly desire. Right now I have no idea who is open in the area. There is a place in Joliet, Walt’s Hobby & Model Shop that is really one of the last “good” stores around. I have no idea if he is open. Hi, Ben I’m currently building the Trumpeter 1/350 scale Blücher , using the Eduard PE set. They supply a new bow in the set , I’m assuming the kit bow isn’t accurate! I’ve shaped the photo etch bow as instructed , but jeez! If I don’t get this right it’s going to look horrendous! It seems that the new bow is going to protrude a few millimetres beyond the original, causing a weak point. Would you bother fitting it ? The fitting instructions are very vague!

Being an avid World of Warships player I knew about this. They were gonna be the most powerful warships but ever since the U.S. entered the war focus shifted from battleships to Air Craft carriers so the ship was never constructed. I have the Montana unlocked on my account and it's a cruiser killer. There's another Montana class battleship called the Ohio and this one has 18 inch guns like the Yamato's but only has 8 guns arranged in 2x4. And that is also a beast sadly I don't have that one unlocked.
