(1/2) How to Rebuild your 4wd Toyota Front Axle Closed Knuckle
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In part 1 of 2, we'll show you how to disassemble the Toyota front closed knuckle steering joint. These Toyota Knuckles are found on many solid axle Toyota trucks as well as Land Cruisers. The one we are working on is a 1993 FZJ 80 Land Cruiser.
Special thanks to 360 performance rotors and NITRO Gear and Axle for supplying the parts.

I purchased the Knuckle and Slotted Rotor Stage II kit. My two sons (11 & 13) and I knocked it out in about 10-hours. The two videos did a great job of explaining 95% of what to expect and what to do. Thanks for the excellent instructions.
Thanks Tim Heidecker for this helpful video!
Excellent. Thank you. You're a great instructor

Glad to be of service.
Thanks for that, an extremely helpful video.
Got my rotors, got the rebuild kit. Now I just need the huevos to dive into this (oh, and a free weekend.)
THANKS Jonesys best and most helpful video
Great video but i would have used a puller on the tie rod, as well as a brass drift on the cone washers so as not to damage the housing, to each his own though. Thanks
ONE of the VERY BEST. THANKS. TODAY.... TOMORROW.... TOYOTA
Useful Video for me thanks man
With the help of this video I did the whole job myself after swearing, farting and frustration I was finally able to get it right.

Good stuff
Great buy the rebuild kit from us!!!
very nice!
Great and one of the best videos for Toyota vehicles. I will link it to all of the different Toyota forums. My only other comment is you have a very nice shop and was wondering how come you did not use a tie rod puller?
F***ing incredible video. Thankyou!
Hey mate, love the video used it last time..this time it's a bit different for me because the outer wheel bearing seized onto the spindle and I just can't get the thing off...you have any suggestions how to get the outer bearing loose from the spindle? I tried heat, hitting it, using a puller, etc.
Jones good video, I especially like the advice on soaking the felt in grease. However, some people say that the inner Axel seal from Toyota is better in preventing gear oil leaks than that of an OE manufacturer. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks
Great info. Thanks. I have a Land Cruiser 100 series. Where is the best place to by parts?
Thanks for the video, I followed this procedure and rebuilt the front axle on my 1996 Land Cruiser. After the rebuild the tires squeal on slower tight turns, even at the high 4-wheel drive setting. It didn't do this before the rebuild. Is this normal?
Спасибо за доступную информацию. Не зная языка, использую Вашу видео инструкцию. Все очень понятно! Привет из России! ;)

Thanks!
If you put the Caliper Bolts back in the Knuckle after removing Caliper it can not get confused.
Rebuild kit: $150 Grease: 6 tubes at $5 per tube Performance Front brake kit: $200. About 6 hours of labor.
Yes it is the same
Did you replace to wheel bearings with new ones or did you reuse them? you didn't mention it in the new parts you introduce in the beginning. Also would you recommend reusing the Birfields and axle shafts? My Cruiser has 180k miles and clicks when i turn it sharp. I also heard if you swap what side the birfs are on it will extent the life. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks! any info helps!
Just ordered the knuckle rebuild kit from you guys, but what size is the axle nut socket that you use?
hello! great video! is it the same method for a fj 60?
Jones One other question, do these trucks come with a steering box to adjust the tightness of the steering gears? Thanks
Also, where can I find a good set of refurbished Birfields, 30 spline? Do you guys refurbish these parts? Thanks
thank for teach me
I really like this video and it's going to help me a lot. Like you already mentioned that some people might give you crap about how you removed the axle seal, I'm one of those people. You seem like you're a very competent mechanic so why risk damaging the inside of the axle housing using a screwdriver and potentially give a pathway for gear oil to get past the seal? You could use a slide hammer puller to get that seal out with no damage to the axle housing. I've used an OTC slide hammer puller set to remove axle and differential seals and it works great every time. Here's a link to the OTC kit I own: amzn.to/2JPGHHS
I most deffinately would, but I live in Finland so the shipping cost would be more than the actual parts :D
Jonesy, I am a new viewer and enjoyed the video. Would you be so kind to address the" Death Shimmy"; on a 96 Land Cruiser with ABS. Hit a bump and have to come to a complete stop before it quits.
what is size axle nut socket for toyota jf80?
where can i order a rebuilt kit for my hdj 80 shipped to finland
Excellent! Out of curiousity, what do you charge for this job? Great way to justify tools and parts with the Mrs...
Does -87 4wd Toyota Hilux have this kind of solid axle, or is it radically different to disassemble/re-assemble? Please, someone answer
I tryin to find and buy the nitro kit but I can't find it anywhere. Can someone help.
You're a fucking pro!
What tires are those?
I've misplaced my + shaped brake tensioners (the part removed at 8:00). Where can I get some? Pep Boys, Orielly's, and Toyota are not able to help.

INNER THE SPINDDEL AX THERE IS A NEEDLE BEARING SO DIFFICULT TO REMOVE IT
Where can we get the rebuild kits? Duiser doesn’t have them on their website

They are offered at adventurevehiclesnw.com.
A leaking knuckle can also be the result of broken down/too old/poor quality moly grease, not just a bad axle seal letting diff oil in. And you forgot to mark the top on the axle seal, to determine if it had an indentation either above or below, denoting the need for a shim adjustment. And seal removal itself was a bit 'mechanic-esque', as in shoddy. Fine, you make a bur, smooth it out with emery, but you still removed material that is now gone forever. Clearly not your own car. But otherwise, not bad.
ясно,четко,понятно.
Man the axle is filthy, I couldn't bear to start working until I had all the junk cleaned off of my work area. Otherwise great video.
$65 USPS international flat rate shipping plus the cost of the kit. Send me an email with the details of what you want and I will send you an invoice.
