    These cabover trucks always have a special place in my heart. The FIRST semi truck I rode in was an old cabover truck!

    While I was a kid in the 80's when cab-overs were a common sight on the roads, and while I always preferred the standard nose style, specifically Peterbuilt being that we share the name. Many years later I made a career change and found myself driving big bucket and line (crane) trucks nearly every day for 8 or 9 years before getting the foreman job that comes with a new Ford F550 diesel take home truck. Anyway, sometimes I had to drive one of the older 1989 to 1991 cabover Peterbuilt bucket or line trucks, and while they rode failry smooth, the feel sooo wide even though all the new amd old trucks bodies are all the same 8' wide, but the cabovers put the front 2 seats right up in the front corners so you need to get used to driving a big truck from an unusual position, in front of the front wheels, as far forward and to the left as possible. Because of this the amount of room is minimal for such a huge vehicle. Im 6'6" 245 and the massive steering wheel is in the way, I dont have nearly enough leg room and its by far the worst truck to sleep in when we are working storm doing our 40 hour shifts with 8 hour breaks between. Then with the air suspension seats in the cabovers with the seats ahead of the front axle, Ive hit the ceiling so hard, countless times after going over bumps or dips in the road, like crossing intersections of 3 or more lanes where the crossing road is raised a bit in the center, causing the front end to swing up and down rapidly. Numerous times the little button on the top of my baseball hat has cut my head from smashing the roof so hard. No broken neck thankfully, but it has happened in the past.

    These are some of the BEST Tamiya build videos on the internet, bar none!!!! Very clear thought out, and understandable language used to convey the process, without constantly repeating things. Not a lot of extra unnecessary mumbo jumbo talk, that sometimes does nothing but confuse the builder. They are really a joy to watch and listen to!!!! The hobbyist truly has a wonderful advocate they can turn to while building these awesome Tamiya tractors. Thanks so very much for taking your time to put these great videos together!!!

    Everyone seems to say that the stock 27T motor is way too fast making the truck too tippy through turns. I was just wondering if a 34T or 55T would be better. I would like to have my rig have an ok amount of speed but still be stable through turns.

  • @HobbyconceptsLLC

    @HobbyconceptsLLC

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, go with a 45 or 55 turn. Both will give you much improved operation over the stock motor and still very good speed in 3rd gear.

    One thing I found out back in the 1970s is that the standard for Phillips head screws in Japan are different than here in the states. American Phillips head drivers will not fit Japanese Phillip head screws. They call it the JIS standard. I used to work on old Japanese motorcycles back in the day and on almost every bike that had an oil filter cover secured by Phillips head screws were stripped out by American owners using American type drivers. Old 1960s and 70s Hondas were notorious for this.
