Why?......Stupidity. These kind of people THRIVE by being in 30 mile long traffic jams or standing in two hour long lines to buy a cup of coffee. They can't do anything unless they are in a huge crowd.

The only vehicles you take to the snow are a Subaru or a 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser with full time 4 WD at a paltry 10 mpg. Anything else you stay the hell home.

Ladies & gentlemen this is why people in areas that get snow often invest in snow tires for the winter. Because otherwise it’s bad driving in snowy conditions, but this is California so I understand why they don’t have them on their car

Most of them are probably visitors to the area or passing through. People who live there are well prepared, as a rule. I used to live there. My in laws had a business there for 2 decades. This may not happen like this annually, but it is not unheard of. People come from all over the world for gambling and skiing.

Front wheel drive cars are good in the snow, better than rear wheel drive, but they needed chains not cables, even the 4Runner could barely make it up that hill with 4x4, traction control, and flooring it.

That 4Runner should have put it into crawl control mode. I believe he would have made that hill easier.

It's the angle of incline and the soft snow, nothing to grip on... chains or knobbier tires or studded tires would have helped but not car can grip on an uphill slushed out road with ice below the slush. The snow cables on the Honda got destroyed.

@@VenturaIT It's doubtful they would be permitted without chains. Usually, at the bottom of the grade, there's notice that chains are REQUIRED. I've driven Donnor Pass to Carson City, Reno and Silver Springs, NV, on many occasions in the winter. They were almost always required when snow was present..

@@johnnieblackburn3182 I always drive up to Tahoe in good weather before the storm then enjoy the snow, then wait until good weather to drive out... so I've been in Tahoe and didn't have my cables on my Jeep and spun out on black ice in a Jeep 4x4 into a snowbank, and the Jeep was almost totaled but repaired at a body shop under insurance.

@@VenturaIT We lived there when we were fresh out of college. It's hard living in a tourist town when you're young and fresh out of college. I swore I would never live in an area so laden with snow again, unless I owned a 4 wheel drive truck, with a snowplow on the front. It can be very challenging sometimes. I found the tourist/drivers to be the biggest danger. People from all over the world book their vacations there, summer and winter. It can get crazy. We lived in Christmas Valley off Hwy 50, where the snow plows only plowed when they had time. Sometimes, we couldn't get to town for days. Back then, they closed off the Highway that went towards Camp Richardson. If you lived there in the winters, you weren't getting to town unless you went by snowmobile.

Bull. This is not unusual. Why do you think Tahoe has hosted the Winter Olympics before? This is the kind of winter this tourist town thrives on. Many years it's all they can do to earn a buck when the snowfall is minimum. If the snowmelt happens slowly, it will also help water levels in all of the lakes, rivers and streams that benefit from the runoff. Excessive rainfall brings destruction, flooding, rock and mudslides. But, a good year of snow benefits immensely.
