1,000 Planes On Order - Is this Airline Taking Over the World? IndiGo's A320 and ATR-72 in Economy
Despite being the world's largest country with more than 1.4 billion people, India has become known as a graveyard for airlines - with many having tried and failed to capitalize on what SHOULD be a massive market opportunity, especially on the domestic side. Kingfisher, Jet Airways, Go Air and others have risen and fallen... and some speculate that Air India wouldn't have made it without government help. But one airline has managed to crack the code (in my opinion), and that airline is IndiGo.
Perhaps the world's least-hated budget carrier, IndiGo carried 100 million+ passengers in 2023 to over 100 destinations in India and beyond. Like most budget carriers, the onboard product is fairly basic, but that seems to be exactly what India needed - an affordable way to get from Point A to Point B - safely & on-time.
I've always been fascinated by IndiGo's story, so when I was in India, I had to check them out. Come join me as I fly both workhorses in IndiGo's fleet - the A320 and ATR 72 - on a couple domestic flights - and let's see if we can uncover the secret to IndiGo's Indian Dominance!

I am an ex Indigo staff. I still remember when Rahul Bhatia sir said that "I will only be proud when i can fly anywhere in the world with Indigo!!"
Quality keeps getting better, Flaps!
Indigo ATR seats do not recline. All Indigo A-321/320 seats recline. Yours however was the 1st emergency exit row - will not recline as will block the exit behind you.

Wow, this was a very well produced video! You have earned my sub :)
Thank you very much for visiting Nasik City & flying from Nasik International AirPort ❤
When I fly indigo and air india express, I feel travelling in my local transport bus.
Great review! Loved the details and side-by-side comparison of the A320 and ATR-72, it really highlighted the differences in space and comfort. The insights on IndiGo's service and food options were also super helpful. Your analysis of their strategy and execution is fascinating, and the comparison between the A320 and ATR-72 was insightful. It's really interesting to see how IndiGo has managed to thrive where others have struggled. Can't wait for more videos on India's aviation scene! Thanks for the informative and detailed video, Flaps:)
Well rounded content mate. Flap, flaps n away...10K 100K 1mm. Let's Indi GO. :)

Excellent video ,
great work Flaps! Thoroughly enjoyed this vlog of Indigo airlines. Your intro is engaging and made me watch entire video. Regarding airports security checks, they suck mate. I know how horrible they are vs rest of the world.
Great video on IndiGo - it is the 3rd most profitable airline in the world after only Delta and Ryan Air In December 2023, IndiGo surpassed United Airlines to become the sixth largest airline in the world. Nashik Airport (IATA: ISK, ICAO: VAOZ) is an airport is owned by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) govt owned company , which uses the airport primarily to develop, test and build aircraft for the Indian Armed Forces .Its not owned by any civilan operator AAI GMAR Adani Group but a collaboration between HAL and local state Maharastra govt a 3rd tier aiport. Vadodara Airport[4] (IATA: BDQ, ICAO: VABO) owned by the Airports Authority of India. It's a customs airport and also military serving Indian Air Force base . It is the third-busiest airport in Gujarat, after Ahmedabad and Surat airports
In Indigo 320s the only seats that don’t recline are on row 12 because 13 is also a safety exit row so reclined seats can impede safe exits if reclined and if I’m not wrong the last row also doesn’t recline because the bulkhead is rite behind. Row 13 seats recline because row 14 is not on the emergency exit. Row 1 also offers more leg space but the seats are a bit narrower as the food table slows into the arm rests.
As an avgeek from Nashik, thank you very much for visiting our city. Nashik in my opinion is highly underrated among foreigners (we don't get that many) so thanks a million for putting us on the map. I have never flown from Nashik airport before due it not having adequate transport options and is also located in Ojhar town and BOM is the much better option for international flights especially to Singapore where I live now. Personally, I find India is heading for a duopoly with Air India subsuming Vistara and becoming the backbone of full service and Indigo's dominance and general passenger preference over its competitors. It does create a lack of competition leading to higher prices dictated by airlines themselves. You're a sport man. Earned a sub.

@@flaps1019 Oh yes Sula vineyards are a must visit. In fact, I myself used to live 10mins from the vineyards near Jehan Circle. You should also visit Gangapur Dam and the adjacent watersports club that is newly opened. Not to mention the large number of Indian restaurants along Gangapur road that will leave you spoilt for choice.
You don't know that AIRINDIA will merge with VISTARA. They also have 1000 aircraft on order. Now it is back to TATAs. AIRINDIA's future is very bright too

Air india has to improve service and staff attitude. Right now it's a MESS
How is the pilot job availability in india for the upcoming years? I've heard people with cpl are unemployed for years? This demotivates me alot
Bro you guys expect these services as usual , as you frequently travel in planes. Even now, Indians getting to travel on planes is a dream for them, they don't even need these....
Please make it more affordable to the common people..
Nashik has a bit higher security coz of military issues., also there is an airforce base around 50km near the airport

Ahh that makes sense
Indian airports I would say the security is pretty intense and through, in my last trip I was not even allowed a small Allen key used for tripod. I am glad though for a sense of safety and job well done by CISF (agency responsible for security if airports)
You should visit hyderabad and Mumbai airports too
Over the last 12-13 years, somehow I do find Indigo quality of flying experience on downslide.
Who knows whether it is rise or fall.
the multiple security checks are a pain. i dont get it. India needs to upgrade its security procedures pronto.

We unfortunately have the most haters in the world. Nobody wants to see us prosper. And most of them are inside India. Maybe it could be made efficient, but then it starts breaching into personal privacy
No alcohol is served in any domestic flights in India. You can’t drink alcohol in any domestic flights in India. No hot meals in any ATR flights in Indigo. Not sure about Air India. If a flight is less than an hour be it in any aircraft then no hot meals, not even coffee or tea. There is a sector in which few flights are 55 minutes and few are 65 minutes in the same airline. In the 55 min one I don’t get hot meals but I get hot meals in the 65 min one.
Nasik in no ways is a small city bro! It's in the top 13 cities of India which have 50% GDP of India!!! It's small & old terminal and negligence is the main reason for it not having a good air connectivity as it's just 2hrs apart from it's neighbouring cities like such as Mumbai & Pune the other two top cities of Maharashtra and India. Hence making the trio of Nasik-Mumbai-Pune the economic & golden triangle of Maharashtra which is the most developed & developing ambition project of the Government of Maharashtra in India!!!

Take it easy bud, he is saying it is a relatively small city by Indian standards, which isn't wrong.
India is coming to kick Germany below. Seems he is nervous already.
👍👍👍👍
First time seeing an indigo propeller plane 😂
I hope no one from the staff was fired from the jobs as you said "we were not greeted...a bit disappointing" 16:38 ...Indigo is still a corporate and they take this seriously...perhaps a bit too seriously...
Their flights are late and if you are delayed, you are on you own or they will give you something to eat which is very unhealthy food. It maybe hygienic but not good for health.
Indigo defeated air india by only a small margin
16:00 Indians are pretty chill while boarding and getting off the plane but Do try INDIGO'S B777 From Delhi to Istanbul 😂😂😂 You will feel like you're back in USA!!! That behemoth of an aircraft with 500+ Economy boarding🤯🤯 Its just too crazy😂 you should try it once!!! 😂🤭

😂 certainly a little more basic than your average lounge but the hot food actually didn't taste too bad
Terribly rude service by ground staff.
India has only 3 good airports; Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. Rest are rather basic and are quite similar to the "cold sandwiches" you found at Baroda :D

You should visit Cochin international airport once then, it’s the only airport in the world where each and every passenger gets an individual couch to sit in the boarding area and the architecture is awesome. It is also probably the only airport in the world which is carbon negative. The airport produces more power than it consumes.

You haven't been to Hyderabad yet?
Indigo is also famous for Worst customer service in yhe World , with world record for giving lunch to its passengers on the Airport TARMAC 😂
That's was a smooth going 👍
Genuinely hope Indigo doesn't progress on its empire cause that airline has left me a scar which would take a very very long time to heal when it comes my international travel.
Indigo has horrible service. They treat you like dirt and if you questions they will throw you out. Thee crowd that travels in this airline is also cheap.
Indigo really needs to work on their customer service. And their attitude. Hate flying with them and will gladly pay more to fly with vistara.
Such a big company yet they harass their employee
Indigo is the worst airline. I purposefully avoid it even if I have to pay extra or take longer routes. India has bad city buses, Indigo feels like a city bus in air.
indias worst airlines till now indigo
