No One is Ordering More Planes Than India... Here's Why

In 2023, Indian airlines ordered a record 1,124 airplanes from Airbus and Boeing, more than 3 TIMES as many as US airlines. This represents a monumental shift for the world's largest country, which had never ordered more than 300 new aircraft in a single year. India's two largest carriers - Air India and Indigo - led the charge, ordering a combined 970 planes - mostly narrowbodies - to support future demand. In this video let's take a look at why (I think) India's airlines splurged on planes in 2023... as well as potential risks to aviation's continued growth in the country.

As an Indian, I see me and friends book more flights than trains nowadays. Especially if it’s more than 12 hrs of travel by land. It has become quite affordable nowadays tbh. Great video 👍

As an aviation expert working for one of the biggest players in the industry, I would say India is not just the present but the future. And its not "one of the" fastest it is the Fastest growing major economy in the world" by a huge margin and growing almost at double the pace of china, and 4 times the US. This is India's century.

The main thing is that a lot more people are buying AC tickets for trains. Now, long-distance trains cost a lot for air-conditioned 2nd class or 1st class tickets. At that same price, one can just get a flight ticket.

The price of plane tickets in India is now the pretty much the same as first class train tickets, it used to be four times the price of train tickets about 10 years ago. Modi has brought massive reforms.

Affordable is one factor to prefer trains and also timings in India most people prefer overnight trains so morning work can’t be effected and they can also get the sleep in train by morning when they wake up they will at their destination and they can do their works in morning and their will a more time waiting and security cheks in airport than the time take to actually fly(travel) to destination

The last time i traveled on a train was in 2015😅 Everyone is in a rush and wants to save time especially in this rapidly growing economy. The aviation industry will grow the fastest in this decade.

I bet these are insufficient for Indian domestic and international travelers. Unless Indian airlines connect directly to all capitals and major cities of the world, India cannot be an economic superpower. When Government talks about 10-20 trillion Dollar economy than my guess you need to put many Indian politicians, businessmen, executives, academicians, engineers, doctors, specialists and tourists on those flights from every major city from India to Indian and International destinations.

I’m from Nashik and sorry for the experience. Nashik just started with the air travel (technically had service some years back but it shut down) Nashik is a small city and people generally go to Pune and Mumbai for business and work. Fpr example if you want to go to Mumbai going by road or rail takes same time you to take to go to the airport and board the plane and get out of the airplane and travel to the place you want to go because the distance is below 100 miles.

No apology needed - it’s a cool little airport (also great city with a lot of character, need to visit Sula vineyard next time 😊) and was fun to check out - I think the ground staff were still learning and will certainly get better / more efficient with time. Ultimately they got us out safely though so I can’t complain

If you look at China and some parts in Europe, high speed rail has killed many airlines businesses, especially short distances or domestic ones. India should also focus on high speed trains instead of building new airports. That would be very economical ànd environment friendly as these trains runs on electricity.

@@Trickyx786 with present Indian trains not possible. But in China and in some parts in Europe trains have literally replaced flights. The flight time may be less. But you must consider time taken to reach airports, where normally airports are in outer parts of city. Also, the security, boardings and many more hassles considered has made high speed trains and flights similar time taken.
