$1,000 HiLux takes on CAPE YORK! • Old Tele Track
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
SUBSCRIBE NOW - FREE FULL LENGTH 4WD Action DVD's
If there’s one track in Oz that’s at the top of every to-do list, then it’s the Old Telegraph Track in Cape York. Rutted, muddy and with water crossings over the bonnet, this iconic track is the pinnacle of Aussie 4WDing.
This issue Graham and Shauno are tackling the Tele with Shorty and the Dirty 30 - and believe it or not, it’s Shauno’s first time! But that’s not even the best part about this DVD!
This time, we’ve sent young Jock from the mag up to the Cape with a grand in cash which he’s just spent on a bog stock 1984 single cab HiLux! If you’ve loved our previous project trucks like Zero Dollar Zook, then you’re gonna love our newest one - Thousand Buck Lux! Don’t miss Jock’s first adventure in this stock as a rock beast of a truck as he does everything he can to keep up with Shorty and the 30. There’s no guarantee they’ll even make it to the end, but one thing’s certain - they’re in for one hell of an adventure giving it a red hot go!

It was like the cap was welcoming him with a slap of water to the face aha
I owned the same model in a dual cab, saw most of the top end in it. Truly couldn't break the thing, but I could've walked it faster.
Love he’s face when the water comes in ...priceless
20:57 it doesn't matter how many times you spool out a winch by hand, part of you thinks you can unwind it faster by pulling it
Living vicariously from home while jobless and on lock down :(
Best comment of the episode. "You don't winge when someone gives you a beer"
This is the video that got me into 4wding since watching this the first time in 2017 I've bought an 80 series, learned how to go offroad, went camping for the first time, did 2 big trips including solo crossing the simpson desert, visited Uluru, Lambert Centre, visited SA/NT for the first time spent thousands of dollars modding my car, learned how to do all sorts of things mechanical and electrical. Funnily enough I have no interest in ever going to Cape York though, because it's too crowded.

It might be a 'short nit picking list' but just the labour, let alone the service parts and upgrades, would have cost more than the '$1,000' base vehicle. Realistically to pick up a $1,000 LN46/RN36 and get it to a standard worthy of driving up there is probably a $5-6k investment if you're buying parts and labour, that is if a workshop and sponsors aren't supplying everything... and that would still be a pretty rugged old trip.

While I didn't do the Tele Track, fruit bat falls are accessible by rugged 2WD. Made it there with a Toyota TownAce in 2012. Awesome spot. Though the TeleTrack has been on my bucket list ever since.

17:18 ,that sound of the bonnet shutting never gets old 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻, I have an 82 hilux almost exactly the same, that bonnet shutting is just a weird sound that I just know exactly what’s happening 😂 😂
2:30 the look on his face.... roll the window up my friend! Too funny
everyone seems like chilled out genuine blokes, good content. *and I dont even drive a 4x4 (yet)*
A thinly disguised cooking show. Next up: best window treatments to hide mud spatter! ;)
Enjoyed that . Did the trip unassisted with my mate on Yamaha ttr 250 . Both bikes were bullet proof . Nearly died a couple of times . No1 was a close call of impalement from a broken tree that just missed my groin and ended up ripping my strides . No2 was a strike from a taipan snake that got its fangs into my boot . It was a great adventure.
Sitting here watching older vids as it snows in Ohio in the states.

Awsome! Keep up the good work. Love watching your channel from here on the East coast of Canada.
You know what...? I used to avoid these videos like the plague... And I don't know why. But, Holy hell, have I had a marathon for the last few weeks catching up on all the old episodes. Love it, it's like crack....almost! I enjoy the comedy, the good old Aussie larrikin behavior and the sights you guys see. One day, ONE DAY.... I WILL get out there and enjoy this beautiful country of ours. Oh.... And go the might GQ, even if it's missing a couple of rear doors!
28:25... That's why you hire professionals and that man is one. Nice work producer Chris.

Great vid guys - more like this showing what can be done in cheap old 4x4s - where was the Zook?

This is the 4th time i watched this episode one of my faves 4 sure👆👆✊✊....East coast New Zealand
Do it in the $0 ZOOK
As someone thats used to wheeling in Alberta, Canada, the sheer lack of mud and the amount of traction you have is amazing. Would love to get out there someday for an offroad trip......with a flamethrower for the bugs 😛
Jocko looks like he’s worn that shirt since the dah he got it. Then again Graham’s no better 😂 2:59
Love the sound of Toyota straight 6 diesel🔥
I was under the impression it was obvious the 1K price was for the base buy-in before upgrades/service. Of course you're going to put whatever spare parts you have on a new (to you) rig to make it better suit your needs, or the very least do a full service which is never cheap. My current rig was a 2K buy-in before even an oil change. People don't give this stuff away for cheap after they spend lots on servicing and upgrades, that's why they're inexpensive.
Man..Toyotas are just built for this. Love it!
I absolutely love yalls show!! What adventures you guys go on! Love to be apart of that!!
I love watching this best show can't wait to get my ute ready for the tracks
started watching these videos out of curiosity about a month ago today i just brought a navara time to get mods happening cant wait to get out there
The tyre size on vehicles going through these crossings becomes a self fulfilling requirement. Once a bunch of vehicles with 35's go through and chew the ruts out a bit you'll need 37's to avoid getting stuck on the diffs, eventually the tracks will become impassable and new tracks will need to be made.
@ianparsons849
6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, if everyone had 31-32 inch tyres max. (7.50R16, 235/85R16, 265/75R16 etc.), then there would be no need for more clearance from 35s, 37s or larger. I'm curious as to when 35 inch tyres became necessary (mid to late 1990s?).
@steinwaygrande9736
6 жыл бұрын
Just fill in the ruts and that makes better sense then to take out the middle of the rut.. Doing that only makes the track deeper to the point one can no longer use it.
@danielmalmeida1
6 жыл бұрын
Edward Brodie portugal its a good example. now every one uses 35 inch 37 inch and 40 inch. and the 35" are no longer a suitable tyre for the average offroad difficulties here.
@davogeorge4525
6 жыл бұрын
dude 35"s do less damage when aired down properly because ya don't have to drive so stupidly hard, I have snapped more CVs running 31"s than I have running 33"s. Anyway in my experiance all it takes its for a little bit of flooding to wash out the ruts and even everything out again, and with some terrains like sand and rocky shit big tires do no permanent damage, big tires are NOT just for bigger ruts
@Two-Dads
6 жыл бұрын
35's definitely do less damage than 31's. I had a GQ shorty, once I changed to 35's from 31's she would walk up tracks that I previously had to use a lot more momentum and spin the wheels a lot to be able to get up. = less damage to the track and less damage to the bus running bigger tyres.
Epic wish I was following along in my own truck great job guys
great video loving these full episodes
This video definitely made me miss my '78 Hilux four speed. That truck would go ANYWHERE! I had a 3 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift running on 33x12.50's everything else was completely stock. I'm moving to Australia,you guys are awesome!!!!!
