$1,000,000 Design Portfolios

Unlock weekly web design case-studies from world-class websites: designspo.co
In this video we're taking a look at 5 amazing design portfolios from designers and agencies worth more than $1,000,000. I'm breaking down every part of their portfolio to show you what works and to give you inspiration and ideas for your portfolio.
1. DesignJoy
DesignJoy is a design agency run by ONE man, Brett Williams. He does over $1.2 million per year from subscription revenue and his portfolio is a sales masterclass.
2. Spring/Summer
A bold contemporary design agency that has consistently created beautiful modern designs for the past decade. Their use of space and typography are consistent sources of motivation for me.
3. Nicolas Loureiro
A premiere designer based in Paris that's worked with Netflix, Omega, Lacoste, and other high-profile brands. His use of video and motion are stunning and his portfolio captures the spirit of his projects perfectly.
4. Clay
Clay is one of the best and biggest design agencies in the entire world. They've worked with DOZENS of billion dollar companies including Facebook, Google, and Samsung just to name a few. If you've used the internet, there's a good chance you've experienced a design by Clay. If you want to work with bigger clients, their case-studies are required reading.
5. Wanted For Nothing
WFN is my personal favorite on this list. They're fun, they're unique, and their case-studies are gorgeous. If you want to put together a portfolio that will blow your clients away, you have got to check out Wanted For Nothing.

do they use webflow to make sites like these? and can I build them by coding using Next.js and React?

Hey I'm very new to all of this and my main question is.... What software are these designers using to build these websites? Is this done with coding or is there a platform that is more of a drag and drop style. I understand they may be multiple methods however i'm interested in learning whatever these guys are doing. Thanks!

In order of complexity you can use Wix (not really recommended) Wordpress + Elementor/Breakdance Webflow HTML/CSS/JavaScript From there, there’s infinite frameworks and addons like Tailwind, Bootstrap, React, Angular. Best of luck to you on your journey!

Most of these are built with Webflow. A popular drag and drop builder. However, some of the effects on these websites are custom coded

Typically, designers focus on design, and then a software developer handles the coding. However, some professionals do both. For instance, DesignJoy delivers only the design, either through Figma or Webflow. There is no coding involved unless there's a need for custom work within Webflow. Most software developers will implement a design based on the client's requirements. If a client requires a content management system, the design is tailored for that. For example, they might use Ghost CMS. While WordPress is seldom chosen for new projects and is perceived to be inferior compared to other solutions, there are still those who prefer it. If a client doesn't need a CMS, React is commonly chosen, often paired with Next.js. Angular is typically not a top recommendation. Webflow isn't suitable for complex applications, unless it's primarily a landing page with some straightforward sub-pages. Overall, the choice also hinges on whether the project is a web design or a mobile application design, among other factors. Most aren't built with Webflow, by the way. That's a vague and incorrect statement. Source: I'm a professional software developer. Hope that helps

IMHO these websites look no different then most others out there…Bland and uninspiring…graphic design and Ui design really lost its touch sadly for being “artist” the whole industry looks so similar …..unlike the early 2000s flash player websites

Great Video 🙌 and great articulation of the advantages of what these portfolio has done perfectly. Except DesignJoy. i actually don't think his homepage represent what he claims his revenue gets. I have nothing against the guy, and I admit I have not watched all the youtube interviews & podcasts he was in. But, when I did hear of him a couple of time months ago, and I visited his website, I was actually disappointed and very skeptical, as all his case studies presented were all not real work, and presented at some point on a pdf or slider. Which still kind of skeptical of all the hype about him. But all the other websites you have mentioned, I completely agree with you on how they are a great example & inspiration. Anyway, Instant subscriber. Keep it up 👍👏
