17:14 According to the original scp story this short film is based on, there was a *nanosecond* in which the AI in the goggles were unable to scrub out 096's face. Impossible for an AI to detect, and far too short for the human mind to process that it had seen it.........but it was still enough for 096 to be triggered by it. As such, the goggles were useless.

@@GamerBoy870 Honestly, it definitely has every right to work. Just make it so that it isn't a live feed, a few miliseconds of delay is annoying, but beats getting killed by 096.

A good way to combat that issue was for field operatives to keep 096 in their peripheral vision, wait for the image to be scrambled, then look at 096, which is the only reason why the foundation bothers to use the pos goggles

FUN FACT: There is a story where they actually managed to kill SCP-096. To give a quick summary: after realizing that his bones were too tough to break with conventional methods, they thought: Hey wait! We know someone who is really good at snapping necks. And so they used SCP-173 to snap his neck, then forcefully injected in his spine a very powerful acid that melted him from the inside. And the acid was strong enough that he couldn't regenerate anymore.

@@erichvondonitz5325 for the most part dr.dan is obsessed with the idea of that 096 needs to be killed. Keep Thorley believes that 096 can cause an XK class Extinction event on Earth which is why he's so determined to see it killed

I remember when I first watched this, I had the urge to look away whenever SCP-096 was on-screen. It really shows how effective they were in telling the original story into a film.

So the thing about 096 is that you can’t see his face period. The reason why the goggles worked was because he did not directly look at him his face at the start, when the scramble starts working there is a split second image that is so fast your brain cannot even recognize it and does not even know its seeing anything and that can trigger 096. He however did not directly look at it which is why he was able to put the bag on 096 face, but he directly looked at the picture which caused 096 to kill him

It worked for like 10 seconds before they approached 096 so it seems that they work just not consistently.

AI isn't perfect, so even if the goggles filter it out 99.99999% of the time it still fails. It lets the face through for a nanosecond and that's all it takes for 096 to target you.

U can still look a 096’s face and still put the bag over it’s head IF YOU ARE QUICK ENOUGH (this is evident by 096’s grunts and growls dying down to subtle crying). However once someone looks at its face via picture or video it will enter its agitated state

Honestly I feel like those goggles could easily work if there was just a slight delay between the goggles taking in visuals and the feed being streamed to the wearer.

@@rulzzzzzz True, it's just a shame the project was discontinued when there seems to be an easy fix to it.

This is such a good short film, Evan Royalty and the people who made this are great at scp short films. Can't wait till the release of The Class R Chronicles.

The Foundation does have an ethics department believe it or not. They are basically as powerful as the O5s, there are a few stories about them that are a pretty cool read.

This is probably my third favorite SCP after: SCP-106 The Old Man and my absolute favorite: SCP-049 The Plague Doctor.

So, fun little facts : Daniels is heavily brought back in an SCP canon called "Resurrection", specifically the splinter canon "Old Foes" (you can find it on the SCP wiki), and particularly in a series of 3 tales called "The Bowe Decommission" that show him finding ways to recontain dozens of SCPs that have been breached by hostile forces, and it's really, really cool to read. I highly recommend it, because it brings more insight on the character.

The scramble googles didn't work because light was faster than the cameras so the human eye saw SCP-096 before the googles could register the scramble.

It's simple, the camera uses a simple delay feature. The camera takes in the feed, scrubs it, and only then will it stream it to the wearer. Obvious cons are the fact that it isn't a real-time thing and thus the reactions of soldiers would be slower than usual, but it's better than them getting smoked by 096

Theoretically all you would have to do for the goggles to work is delay the feed until after the AI detects and scrambles the image, perhaps by means of a button that kills the feed for a few seconds while you look up at it and let the AI begin the program.

20:00 So right after he puts the bag over it's head you see the guy steping back and the goggles are on his forehead. So the goggle pov was a little bit angled higher than where the guy was actually looking. So while the goggles saw it's face the guy did not.

The reason you know that scp-096 sin't real... Is because you're still alive

If you pointed a camera at 096 but didn't look at it, would it kill you, the camera or neither?

The reason that the scramble didn't work is simple. Computers are fast, but 096 is faster. Before the AI detected it's face, there are microseconds when 096's face is visible to the viewer, the window is so small that you can't even perceive it, but your brain can - and that was enough for 096.

Fun fact they actually have an ethics committee who overlooks even the O5 and there are canons where they overrule them. Ethic's committee's own MTF Omega-1 'Laws Left Hand' once went in full combat against O5's MTF Alpha-1 'Red Right Hand' to arrest O5 personnel. And obviously The Administrator stepped in with his MTF Resh-1 'Seat of Conciousness' to reset everything. This story is described in tanhony's proposal of SCP 001

It just depends on the person talking about it though. I remember in a few stories it is said to be nice/normal things but they need people to think it is brutal so it actually works.

They do give her amnesiacs so she doesn't remember it. It's not as if they do it for fun, they have to do it (or pretend they do it, depending on the truth) to avoid an End of the World scenario.

@@coranbaker6401 the way it works is that it scrambles the image so you cant make out any bit of the face, but there was a slight delay when it did that. so in that bit of delay, the user could see it's face, and would thus die

@@coranbaker6401 yep, but it was heavily implied that the creator didnt put that in on purpose. that would give them a reason to *destroy* 096, and not just contain him, because there is seemingly no solution

am i the only one that wants to see them make a film for either the Plague Doctor, Mal-0, or maybe even When Day Breaks(which would be cool as fuck)

It looked like 096 had its head down so its face probably can't be seen too well and that's why the soldier was safe. The AI probably just censored its entire head for safety.

19:36 I've always thought that in this moment he pauses before putting the bag on because he closes his eyes, knowing that S.C.R.A.M.B.L.E was ineffective.

all it took was 4 pixels in a photo to make 096 breach and go cross-country so all it takes is a few pixels missed by the ai in the goggles and bam active event. (also I love how it's only 1 thru 4 of the 05 council in the voice call because 5 is a cat)

Just for reference 096 is dead now, but they used an actual rail gun in an attempt to break its spine, but the rail gun shell actually just barely scratched the damn thing and just bounced off. This thing would have been an X-K Class End of the World scenario, but 096 has officially been terminated by the foundation.

My question is how the how did the guy who edited the footage survive

You should watch 096 vs 049, there’s a lot to 096 that makes it less of a monster than people think. Hence the “inhumane” torture. Even though a lot of the SCP’s are dangerous, a lot of them are just misunderstood. You’ll see that more if you guys delve deeper into it.

Yeah. 978 already showed us that all 096 wants is to be invisible so people don't look at him. The dude literally does nothing but sit in the corner of a box and bawl his eyes out. I don't understand why people think he should be terminated. Now that the picture's gone, as long as they leave the poor dude alone in his box, he might as well be a Safe SCP.

If it was guaranteed that there isn't at least one picture out there, there would be no point and it doesn't even need to be noticeable the mtf didn't notice its face when they saw it through the SCRAMBLE. The whole point of what the researchers did was to show that it was when it would escape not if.

There is a story where they use SCP-173 to kill him, which involved having SCP-173 snap his neck and filling his spine with a special acid that melted him faster than he could regenerate.

Whilst it is funny hearing someone from the Foundation call something 'inhumane' they do have an Ethics Comittee that, depending on the canon, could stop anything Daniels wanted to do to 096, after all the Foundation is cold, not cruel

in the beginning when it killed the researchers why did it attack the guy by the computers, he didn't see his face until he charged him

Came up with a theory while watching this: What if 096 is realizes what it’s doing? It has humanity but can’t overcome these urges to kill. That’s why it cries. It doesn’t want to kill, but it has to. It wants to be dead just as much as The Foundation want it that way. Cursed to be an invulnerable, ever-lasting killing machine.

You're not allowed to look at it even by "a little bit". So either the film makers left it by accident, or the goggles are effective at times or the agent was looking elsewhere (looking to the side, eyes are closed, etc).

Nah the goggles didn't work because the doctor purposely did it so the foundation would accept his plead to kill it. I don't think they said it in here because in the original story that's how it went, basically the whole people need to die for success thing
