    this is late. But, the SCP foundation has teams, built similar to SEAL teams in that they can all really do the same thing but each of them has a specialty. the forces used here are taken from all over the world and retrained in how the Foundation wants them to operate. These are not combat forces, these are initial assessment forces. thats why they have a QRF and all these assets at their disposal. The Foundation's goal is to find, secure, contain, and protect anomalies. They try their BEST not to kill or destroy anything. they can get quiet, get what they need, and leave without being found out about, then its their go to. With anomalies, if they are considered a threat and not logically able to be secured, then they must be neutralized. They will not go out of their way to neutralize an anomaly unless it is ordered by command, that has a direct line to Area Command, that then leads to one of the O-5 (the top of the top of the foundation) if orders are too grey zoned for anyone under that. given that the Teams are supposed to be taking in spec ops guys and shit as their pref. They arnt spec ops that we see them. their goals, targets, and way of doing things is much different. unnecessarities can cause unexpected consequences. They ARE super natural and anomaly hunters. We cant say that for what theyre looking for is or acts human. Its because of this that I feel that talking and figuring shit out, or even to help the mentality, is earned for this line of work.

    this was a crowd funded films and most of the actors were volunteers/youtubers/whatever so that's why they looked about 15 and had never seen a razor. they had a single "military" guy who was responsible for all the clearing and weapons handling direction and stuff so that's on him. Evan the guy responsible for getting these films done is super passionate about this stuff and wants them to be as realistic as possible so hell maybe you guys could be the consultants on the next film and make it look hardcore as fuck. i know i'd wanna see another one of these with proper tactics and shit that you guys approve of

These guys are an advance recon team sent in to find out what they can about the nature of the anomaly and pacify any threats so the science teams could come in and figure out a containment strategy. They know something caused a sudden shift in the behavior of the people at the compound, but they don't know if it's a virus, or a spore, or a memetic agent, cognitohazard, initially this kind of smells like Church of the Broken God, so maybe they're dealing with malevolent psychic machine parts. Given all the unknowns, gas masks seem like a perfectly precaution.

    30:55 You need a fuck-ton of SCP *knowledge* / *experience* to really understand scp:overlord, the team / squad *Village Idiots* is a team that isn't *strictly* a combat unit, it's mostly recon / surveillance (they can mix in with people in places due to their plain clothes they wear under their gear). They were sent to asses the basic info on the anomalies, get as much info as possible with what little gear they had, and in case of emergency, back out and wait for QRF or a more "suited" team for the job to take their place. In theory this mission could've gone down simply with little anomalies (like random floating people) but it turned into more freaky shit (invisible hooded figures and the mad inducing mirror) and then into even more freaky shit (when you realize the holes in the ground were places where huge ass tentacles came out of and were holding the floating people). For the first floor they clearly "scanned" the rooms with the Anomalous_Video_Recorder and didn't scan the other side of the hallway (this is seen before they go upstairs with the camera). It can be understood that they "cleared" the rooms on that floor earlier and only killed the "hooded figure" that they saw since there wouldn't really be a reason for another one to be hiding (else first one would've been hiding too). At the beginning they also don't necessarily expect to enter a gunfight, which is why they don't bother to spread (also helps for the shots with the whole squad obviously), the guns are to deal with whatever anomalies they encounter, or to subdue any person they could come across. The point of *amnestics* is so the general populus doesn't know about anomalous beings, thus if they see a random person they take them "in" for amnestic treatment. Also the masks are standard procedure in SCP task forces, they protect against gases that they might use / anomalous gases the entities might produce. Getting mind-controlled by the enemy into killing your team is not necessarily fun :) TL;DR : 30:55 The squad doesn't deal with this kind of shit, they go and gather as much info as possible and leave QRF to deal with what's left if needed.

    SCP does love their Amnestic Treatment. For the Gas Mask stuff, the SCP MTF guys have some protocol as it comes to these zones where they are deployed into. And since any of the entities they are sent to neutralize or identify are typically super dangerous and unpredictable they need to wear them (I think that they have some gas mask like mask they use for these types of ops, hence the tubes). Pictures are for intelligence use. MTF are also sent in basically for high-risk or suicide missions and whatnot.

    Hey bit late but context is definitely required for scp short films. They did have one military guy and the rest was mostly volunteer. It's definitely more story focused. But you did a great job covering tactics for this film if it was conventional military. Some of the things were definitely stupid of them to do. But some of the conventional military tactics don't apply due to the fact that in the world they live in there are monsters that can most literally annihilate the universe.

  • @ninja5708

    @ninja5708

    These guys also had less than a week to film, about a 20k budget (they have to legally have all their funds crowd sourced bc of the kind of IP SCP is), their military tactics advisor was there for only a third of the shooting, and most SCP operatives are guys from max sec prisons and stuff privately trained by the foundation using the foundations tactics. No two situations are the same so the ROE and protocols for recon are different every time. Hence why they are loaded out the ass with gear. The gas masks are bc they don't know if there is some sort of undetectable pathogen/bioweapon/chemical in the environment. After shooting the guy on the second floor, they failed to initially clear the two hallway adjacent rooms. The director said he noticed this and, unfortunately, they didn't have time during filming to shoot them clearing it. A general rule of thumb as a recon ground force with the SCP is disturb the area as little as possible, since you don't know what object could do what or what kind of creatures could be where, but investigate the area as thoroughly as possible at the same time. This explains why they weren't just tearing the place apart. Since they had eyes in the sky and constant surveillance on the local, they probably knew that no one had entered or exeted the building before they got there and while they where moving to the AO. Explains why they were comfortable moving out in the open like that. They stated a couple times that the basement was reinforced. Now, you could either take that as just the door is reinforced, or the entire room. For thematic purposes, I choose to believe the entire basement room was reinforced. Hence why they couldn't just go through the wall. But they also want to disturb the physical area as little as possible since they don't know what's going on. It's not uncommon for an entire building to be the paranormal entity, and they don't want a "monster house" situation with operatives inside. (There's an entire story about a whole Ikea store that is connected to another dimension with faceless and hyper violent employees that roam the interior of the store.) I really appreciate people like these guys that do genuine reactions to the tactics and gear and etc. Who have actual training and experience bc it helps me as a viewer and creator understand what's the reality of the situations are. I know that these guys know this is fiction and all their comments and observations are simply stating what would actually be happening if this was a real life military operation and not necessarily giving hard critique and criticism on the film. Looking forward to watching more of their stuff in the future and eventually buying merch.

    Just wanted to add something to the video: when you guys discussed about the tactics and criticized the actions taken. Please remember that these operators are not dealing with "conventional" targets. The risk of an actual firefight are low, so the "fatal funnel" and newer tactics used in real life are, quite simply, useless. The part where they are in the empty field is actually an effective tactic as the SCP Foundation is all about control. Having your operators accounted for and also limiting the obstacles of trees is critical to how they operate. The equipment that is used such as the gas mask are for the purpose of limiting exposure. I'm sure that you guys get these comments a thousand times per day but I wish I could tell y'all directly lol

    Eh... That might be alright if they knew what the fuck was going on in there, but they don't. All their briefing told them was "there's a cult, they're suspected in multiple chemical weapons attacks in 2010, and a worrying number of people have been going missing in their sphere of influence." We don't actually know that the risk of a firefight is low. Somebody collected and tacked up posters on their approach (a good reason to take a different approach) and somebody lit an effigy recently enough that it's still burning bright. All evidence points to there still being people here, that are apparently not averse to killing. Just because they have eldritch mojo doesn't mean they *don't* have guns, so assuming a formation in which one yokel with a Mini-14 could kill half of you is still bad. Honestly, figuring out that you're expected along this path, and then going right down that path, is a terrible idea no matter what you're dealing with. Trail camera, cell phone, IED, g'night everybody.

When they were told to ignore the floating bodies, they'd better obey the order because disobeying the foundation isn't a street anyone wants to go down. As for the constant masks, I've always seen SCP soldiers depicted that way. Given the fact that they never know what kind of anomaly they're dealing with, I guess it's just standard for them.

    This was a really funny react video, but you did miss a TON of stuff that wouldve explained some of your problems. In fact you claimed it had a "nothing" story, even though you literally just ignored the entire plot? The MTFs were wearing Gas Masks because the cult was committing chemical terrorist attacks and they suspect that there could be a biohazardous anomaly, the briefing introduction in the beginning explains this. Admittedly the real reason was COVID delays and dubbing issues but there is an actual story reason for them to wear gas masks. They didn't eliminate the floating people above the house because their job is to contain and research all anomalies, merking the floating people immediately instead of keeping watch and letting QRF handle the containment completely defeats the point of their mission. They used the gas artillery and grenades because they were testing if the CS would incapaciate the anomalies, you literally talked over it at around the 28:12 mark and complained that they didn't explain it. You guys also missed the entire story about the cult getting infiltrated by the mirror anomaly and the cult leader doing the rituals to turn the cult members into the invisible creatures. The whole "standing around and talking" you complained about was part of the story. Along with all the other important plot you glossed over like the dead cultist in the basement explaining what happened to the cult, the fact that the floating people were the missing civilians they were looking for, etc. My point is that talking shit and getting angry at the shoddy tactics and awareness is great, but claiming the movie just spent 30 minutes wasting your time with "talking about nothing" when you didn't even pay attention to the plot was just straight up wrong. Buuut at the same time, you guys weren't unreasonably angry or anything, so it's not really that big of a deal in the end.

    Don't get me wrong, the reaction is super entertaining, but I feel like the context to what the Foundation is and the Foundation's primary objective is totally lost here. Especially the gas mask comments. The Foundation deals with unexplainable anomalies every day. Those gasmasks might be necessary to avoid your internal organs becoming literal peanut butter. In a world where an anomaly can turn you inside out and replace your balls with pinecones, Foundation MTF teams probably don't want to take the risk of breathing in any of the surrounding air around some weird-o paranormal cult.

    "It's like a bunch of kids did a fuckin' movie." Eh. I mean, it's not like Hollywood tends to care that much about realism. Evan does at least try his best and his movies tend to have a lot better atmosphere and more interesting concepts than a lot of directors with ten times his experience. It's also about fooling the average viewer, yeah? Like, yeah, it doesn't fool spec ops people that have been doing this forever and trained day-and-night. But most average viewers got fooled, so that is a big plus. One thing also to add is when reality is malleable, it kind of throws in the air of the rules of what to do, to a certain degree. "Check the creature" might make sense when you're talking about a human, but when you're talking about something that doesn't care about how reality functions, checking it might result in you suddenly turning into a pile of soup. It's the idea of interact with as little as possible. Monster runs at you in an attempt to kill you? Shoot it. Don't do any more than you have to. To summarise: as someone that writes for a living, listening to the tactics was super interesting and honestly I would've wanted more of that. But listening to people that don't work on narratives for a living criticise it was probably as painful to me as seeing bad tactics was to you two.

    As long as the criticisms aren't aggressively personal, and I didn't get that impression, as a content creator having people be brutally honest and tear your shit apart is a great thing. Its not doing any favors to make excuses about xyz and cut them way too much slack if clearly things need to be worked on. Since this was only a small indie fan film its a great time to roast their work so they get that learning experience while the stakes are still low, way better to figure these things out now than moving forward and bombing on bigger more important projects.

  • @TechTehScience

    @TechTehScience

    @@Basilone45 Which would be correct if they kept to tactical criticism, but they didn't. There was narrative criticism and segments that were done for good filmography. In cases of narrative and filmography criticism, the criticism wasn't "brutally honest" it was bad and it felt as if they hadn't been paying attention. Example being how they were confused how they got in the vault: one of the MTF had suggested putting in 1234 earlier, and the other refused. Later, he tried it and it worked. It was a well set up bit of humor that was criticised specifically because they both weren't paying attention but still wanted to complain about it. Another one would be them wondering why they didn't just go through the wall. Which would've been fine a loose tactical comment of: "I'd just go through the wall." but when they keep repeating it and acting like an indie filmaker is an idiot for not being too keen on ruining an AirBnB, it makes them feel ignorant about the material they're criticising. So as I said in the previous comment: it would've been great if they kept to the criticisms about tactics, because that's their element. When they criticised the narrative and filmography? I was cringing pretty hard. A little addition: I believe this is Evan's second public liveaction indie piece and he's done multiple machinimas before. I really, really, *really* doubt his filmography is going to improve by people who've never made a single film or written a script supplying him impractical advice.

    @@SAVAGEActual Drewski did a behind the scenes that shows a lot of that training and stuff, maybe that might be worth checking out? Having watched both his video and the director's Q&A video he did after the movie came out, you were on the money with certain things sacrificing military procedure for fitting the shot. For example, Pendor was supposed to be in the third room at the end of the hallway, instead of in the hallway itself. In that version, the MTF would clear each room, instead of walking past uncleared doorways to confront Pendor on that upper level. It was scrapped because the rooms were too small to fit the MTF + their gear, Pendor, and a cameraman. I believe the gasmasks are because they don't know what type of anomaly it is, and some anomalies are indeed gaseous in nature. So it is more of a "just in case" thing, I think.

    I like that the assumption that the gas being used is concealing someone, even though its been established that the only way you can see the entities is with the camera. The other thing I notice is veterans comment on leaving one of the team members behind. They have no choice, once someone is affected by whatever is going on, the team should have as little interaction with the dead teammate as possible. They run the risk of also being affected by whatever is going on, or bringing it with them. It could also appear as though the affected person is still alive, that does not matter, they are affected and must stay in the affected area. MTF are first responders, sure they might not know exactly what to do, but there are protocols in place to reduce the risk of being affected by whatever is happening. There are things that can happen purely because you think about it. There are things that can happen if it is picked up by one of the 5 senses. There could be an interdimensional being that feeds off of the living. Not just by eating it, they could feed off of the fear of it, or devotion to it. It could be sustained just by being near a living being. There is also the potential that there is an object that is causing things to happen. MTF get the baseline of what could be happening, then a specialized team can be assembled to further understand what is going on, and how to deal with it. Edit: Also don't think of MTF as top tier special forces. These are the guys most likely to die, they don't have a lot of training in any one specialty of dealing with whatever is going on. Think of them as booters that were told they could join something that goes around the world investigating weird phenomena. You can't risk sending a person that has specialized training and experience if it turns out that this phenomena might look like it fits a certain protocol but it turns out to not follow, and that specialized member has no idea of how to deal with the phenomena.

    I agree. I’ve watched a lot of these react videos, and the things they all have in common is that no one reacting knows what the SCP foundation is, or read any of them. This and dollhouse aren’t ‘’mil sim” movies, they’re SCP movies. Even with the gas, they describe it as a non lethal. To me that seems a little more than just smoke. Of course it’s not accurate from a military standpoint, but these aren’t active duty members of any countries military.

    Explanations for things you didn't understand: Gas masks are worn due to the fact that they don't know what the anomaly is, meaning it could generate gasses or lethal chemicals. Anomalies are ignored due to the previous mentioned fact that they don't know what the anomaly is, and may be hostile to: -Gunfire/Gunshots -Loud noises -Visual Contact Also they ignore the people up there because there are other squads Next, if you quit on the job while dealing with a dangerous anomaly, you'd be shot for treason, as the SCPF works for the greater good of the planet Another thing is they're used to the floating people. The SCPF's task forces have done way worse, being involved in containment operations of many world-ending SCPs. 2-4 Was pulled into the hole, and not shot. Can't find anything else, if anybody else wants to add, reply to this. Edit: I haven't watched you, this is my first video, but you already made me a minor amount angry. You saying the story wasn't strong is because I doubt you've read the SCP Wiki, and if you have, you'd realize that the foundation isn't government funded. The entire foundation is basically ran by 13 (Now 9 i think because O5-2 shot 4 of the other O5) council members called the O5. Please don't take this wrong, these are just my thoughts.

    They keep talking about being frustrated with the film but that's just because they fail to not see it in a military light. This isn't the military so obviously they aren't going to act like the military. The point of the SCP task forces are that they are allowed to enter strange areas and investigate as much as they can before returning to the foundation. They aren't like the real military at all. Their objective isn't to find and detain humans, they are just supposed to study the creatures. Meaning they will not follow the same procedures as normal soldiers. Their frustration is just dramatic. This is why vets shouldn't react to videos like this because they only try to see it through their point of view and experience. But why are you guys trying to compare real life experiences with a film about the supernatural. You should expect things to be weird or unnatural because that's the entire premise of it.

Meaning- all their points are extremely valid and they DO NOT need any context about the SCP foundation to be in the right. Military, especially the people working for the best Mobile Task Forces in the SCP world should be well trained, tactical and not make these stupid mistakes they've done here. That said- this is just for fun and not an actualy high-budget movie. The actors are amateurs or doing it for the first time (Drewski). These guys are providing good critique and future movies could benefit from this.
