Even in an unexpected downpour, you shouldn't keep driving with water up to the top of your hood. Cars are not boats, and engines stall out. Park it. Even if you have to sleep in your car. You'll be safer.

Should install a snorkel if this is so common. That way your air intake is free from water and you can tread through higher water. So long as your engine is not submerged you should be fine.

I have spent my life traveling until I set up roots in Austin Tx. No place rains like Texas. With a 20% chance of rain it can be dry then boom in less than a minute you can be swept away. I learned when I moved here in 2017. I almost got swept away . No one around to help me. Gratefully I was able to grab hold of a tree branch and pull myself up. Any chance of rain now I make sure I am inside where my foundation sits high.

"We Are Stronger" A Poem by Steven F Gooden We're never as strong, as we are until we have to be. Never Do as much, unless the need we see. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures. We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. More just than judge. More godlike than unlike. Reflecting Sunlight in our darkest night. Providing refuge. Never more alive until we die within and begin again. A Human Ark Divine in our human spark. by Steven Gooden

This is why we keep life preservers in our cars. The actual vest for the non swimmer. The flat cushion type in my car. I generally expect I won’t be grabbing them because we drove into submarine depths. Mostly in case we can’t stay put and have to wade out. Or to throw to someone else in distress . The flat one doesn’t take up much room. It’s handy for a seat cushion or pad cargo. When placed over my cooler on a sunny day, the ice packs don’t melt as fast. Considering how many people live in flood zones, and how many drown on the roadway, everyone should have some in their vehicles. Be safe Happy motoring 👍😎

Quite a bit of this was at the corner of Airline Rd at SPID (S. Padre Island Dr) next to the Wendy's and right across from the Sprouts. I think this might have been around the time my church (& others) were getting out. I was holed up at home this Sunday. Great aerial view at the end. The houses looked like they were on canals like on the island. It definitely came down a gullywasher. Being in such severe drought conditions here, we were praying for rain. I lived in Corpus as a kid during hurricane Carla in 1961. Plenty of water and wind of coarse, but my neighbor Mike had built a kite out of 2x4's just a few days before; however he ended up too scared to try and fly it, I would have been too. Besides, he was just a young teenager. I don't remember the street we lived on, but I remember that we lived in a very old two story house surrounded by cotton fields and also right near a very large metal building that at the time was called "Ice Land". My brothers and I would go with our folks to skate there now and again. This video just reminded me of times long past and how the weather there can be rather brutal at times.

Both gas and electric vehicles are severely prone to fires when submerged, as moisture will always be present in the wire harnesses. It is not an issue specific to electric vehicles. And my understanding Teslas battery packs are completely sealed from the elements .

Sad to say, this is my hometown. The flooding is due to one or both of two things. One, lack of cleaning of storm drains, which collect tons of trash and end up blocking them, preventing proper drainage. Second, corruption by current and past city elected officials, most of whom have been real estate developers and building contractors, that have pushed for residential development in known flood plains. As long as they get their dollar, though.

Pushed hard enough at the end he could make it into the parking lot with out risking ripping off the bumper when the vehicles shifted etc.

What a guy! (Or gal!) pushing people out of the way. That was beyond clutch. I tip my hat to ya!
