When I know in my heart that I want to? I’ve been putting you down when you aren’t around I’m letting you down every day I’ve been messing around when you’re out of town Why do I keep on running away? I’m a part time lover and I’m never there I find it hard to believe you don’t want it to end I’ll be changing my tune when you walk in the room I’ll be fixing the look on my face I’m gonna get close to you, give my loving to you At least until you’re going away I know that I’m not good I’m never gonna treat you like I should I’ve heard that all of the boys think you’re crazy When I treat you so bad, why do you want me? I’ve heard that all of the girls are starting to hate me For stealing your heart and treating you badly It doesn’t hurt anymore when you walk through the door I forget every word that you said And I can’t put you down when no one else is around And when you’re gone, you’re getting replaced I know that I’m not good I’m never gonna treat you, never gonna treat you like I should I’m a part time lover © Record Kicks Publishing (SIAE) About The Release: The much awaited second album by UK's soul hurricane Hannah Williams produced by Malcolm Catto as heard on Jay-Z's 4:44. Record Kicks proudly presents the new album Late Nights & Heartbreak by Hannah Williams & The Affirmations. The title track Late Nights & Heartbreak has recently gained massive popularity worldwide after that Jay-Z has entirely built around the original composition the title track of his new album 4:44 and has used Hannah's song as a statement of his infidelity, in response to his wife Beyoncé's Lemonade. Late Nights & Heartbreak has been recorded backed by Hannah's new band The Affirmations at Quatermass Studio in London the HQ of the British cult band The Heliocentrics and has been produced by Malcolm Catto, best known for his work with among the others, Mulatu, Orlando Julius, Floating Points, Quantic, Dj Shadow and Madlib. Mixed totally analogue, and mastered on tape, Late Nights & Heartbreak includes 13 tracks of visceral soul with a touch of psychedelic atmosphere - as evidenced by the first single:Tame in The Water. The sound is tighter and punchier than ever before - a trait of the Affirmations which has been brought out in several mind-blowing tracks - like the 8+ minutes of Still in My Head. Which grooves hard throughout, and showcases Hannah up to her most show-stopping moment on the album. Woman Got Soul is another 5 minutes of groovy, addictive proof that this is next-level for Hannah and her band. The albums' grooves are interspersed with deep and layered soul tracks, like Another Sunrise or Your Luck Can Change which act as musical beds upon which Hannah explodes with genuine emotions of love, lust, longing and anger - and everything in between. All the songs are original and come from hands of the Bristol-based collective surrounding The Affirmations. The only exception being a monster psychedelic soul version of Dazed and Confused, which is strongly influenced by the original version by Jake Holmes. Reviews for This Release: "Hannah Williams and Malcolm Catto is a musical match made in heaven. This album delivers some serious funky nuggets!" - Craig Charles (The Craig Charles Funk&Soul Show BBC6) "Sounds great!" - Gilles Peterson (Brownswood Recordings / BBC6) "Hannah Williams & The Affirmations have served up another heady brew of super heavy funk and soul guaranteed to hit your head, heart and feet where it counts. Superb stuff" - Paul Osborne (Shindig Magazine) "Ms Williams comes roaring back to life again with some quality material -retro blessedness thankfully for today! A touch of sheer class!" - Emrys Baird (Blues & Soul Magazine) "It's impossible to resist to Late Nights & Heartbreak (Record of the Week)" - Radio Prun (FR) (Coup de Coeur) "The return of the soul hurricane (Jazz Thing Premiere)." - Jazz Thing Magazine (DE) "The emerging name of the UK soul scene." - La Repubblica

You should listen to Adrian Younge, Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings for similar modern musicians whose music all captures that 70s feel good Soul sound. A lot of them are UK based which is cool for me as I'm from England and just pretty interesting with some of the guys I mentioned working with a lot of the names who were behind some of Amy Winehouse's Soulful stuff. Altogether I guess they're part of a small underrated scene in England with a lot of vintage sounding Soul so if that's what you're into then I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Just check out the record labels too because most those underground labels have the same sound all across the board. So yeah, that's the place to look for that sorta sound. It's also a shame though because a lot of Hip Hop producers seem to know about these sort of musicians and labels and keep tabs on all their music so anytime they hear something which sounds like the 70s vintage Soul that's usually sampled for Hip Hop, they'll just sample it from these musicians which is much easier than searching through obscure old school vinyl records for samples for example. So the result is a lot of these musicians are having their talent exploited by a lot of Hip Hop producers 'sampling' all their songs. I know it's not the first time Jay-Z's done it and I can think of three other examples right now of where he took from these underground artists and I know hundreds more who have done it too. I produce Hip Hop myself and have nothing against sampling, but when you're just jacking a loop of a modern day unheard of producer because you know they're talented and nearly every song they make will be good enough for you to sample and turn into a banger, then that's just lazy. The art of Hip Hop and sampling is about searching for samples and transforming it into something new. Even if you have permission it's still basically stealing in my eyes which is lame. So yeah. That's why I'm not too fond of No ID sampling this song, especially as all he did was add some effects, a bit more bass and some drums really
This is mind blowing! So many thoughts right now.... No ID is a genius for finding this song, sampling it the way he did and changing the tempo. Artist usually would be mad at other artists for sampling their music that's not even a year old but Jay-Z just made them platinum.
Hannah got some serious soul. This is a wonderful ballad.
This song is so good I don't even care about 4.44 anymore

I can respect a persons honest, whether I agree with it or not versus a liar. "When a person shows you who they are the first time, believe them" -RIP Dr. Maya Angelou.

Nah a lot of people know No ID. He was my first favourite producer when I first began listening to Hip Hop a couple years back. Dude pretty much made all of Common's best early stuff, mentored Kanye into the man he is today and produced tracks like Daughters by Nas, D.O.A, etc He's definitely Hip Hop producer royalty alongside Dre, Preemo, Pete Rock, etc
