I wouldn't be surprised if the old bearings are better quality than modern bearings. Unless you buy top quality new bearings.

It sounds as if parts are easy to come by where you live.

I don't know how this job was done before the internet. I Google parts, find them, buy them, and they show up a few days later. BUT, I only work on Norton, Triumph, and BSAs from the 60's and 70's so the parts are available. I don't know how the folks who restore the bikes from the 30's , 40's, do it. I have a friend up in Alaska who travels to England to search for parts. That's way out of my realm of reality! What I do is easy compared to what the serious restorers do. I'm just a reasonably good amateur.
