05 - Graphing Parabolas - Opening Up and Down (Quadratic Equations)
View more at www.MathAndScience.com.
In this lesson, you will learn what factors determine if a parabola (quadratic equation) opens up or down in the xy plane. We will see that the coefficient of the x^2 term determines this behavior.
If this coefficient is positive, the parabola opens upward. If the coefficient if negative, the parabola opens downwards. The magnitude of this number determines how steep the parabola is drawn. We will illustrate these ideas by working example problems and also by using a computer demo.

Thanks so much for noticing that! I am trying to make the highest quality lessons that will last for many years to come. This is shot on a Red 8k camera, scaled down to 4K so I can pan and zoom on the board. Thanks again! Jason

Happens when you worked for NASA 😂 you get the habits to use high quality equipment 😂
Bought his DVDs for about seven hundred dollars in the past to supplement my instruction at school. The kids really liked the change of pace. They like his voice. Very impactful.

Thanks so much for the update! Tell your kids I said hi! Jason
The parabola which opens upside means("u" shape) is called upward parabola?????
❤❤❤
Bhai 16 saal se pdha rhe h sir ... KZread PR..😮
👍
Sometimes i think, if we didn't have youtube, we only had those stupid teachers and vague textbooks, high profile teachers like you would only be reserved for the rich, i could never be able to understand these quadratic things if i didnt see that video of yours.... Thank you..

Thank you so much!
I tried plotting this on Wolfram and all the plots scale the same.

This is because wolfram is choosing the plot range for you and it’s changing it for every curve so they all look the same. Try adding plotrange->10 at the end of every graph to lock it down.
