Thanks for the tutorial. Will be doing this once I order the part. Already replaced the EGR valve. Oil in cylinders 2 & 3 above spark plugs, valve cover gasket failure. And since I had mine replaced just a few years ago, there's something else going on. Did the oil filler cap backpressure test and sure enough oil and LOTS of air is coming out. So time to do some work.

Haha nice. What are the odds. And yeah I suppose looking back it wouldn't have been very many more steps to take it completely off. But then again, still just just as much a pain in the butt getting that hose back on there when reinstalling the intake

An awesome trick to putting the bolts back in the manifold if to use a 5/8 hose. It will hold it tighter than tape ever would and you can screw it in snug. Pull the hose off and they are in!!

In doing that job it is also easier to remove the coolant box and the 4 motor mout bolts under the coolant box and jack up the engine and you can see the intake bolts a lot better. Please don't forget to buy you a flexible long magnet. Because if you pull that intake back like that the bolt will fall out and you won't be able to reach them with your hands. You need the magnet to put the bolts back in the intake top and bottom bolts. Use a long flathead strewdriver to hold the bolts in the hole when trying to pull the magnet away from the bolts. Also remove the pipe that goes into one of the intake port on the right side to get more clearance to take the intake out completely.

Gotta listen to classic rock when working on your car!

I might have a bad pcv hoose too but I'm unsure. Have not seen any visual cracks. Have no smoke machine to smoke the vacuum hoses with either. Symptoms is related to using brake pedal and braking also rough idle on start sometimes and not starting on first try. But that can be a separate issue. The rpm fluctuates when I brake into a crossing or a stop sometimes. Up and down until it smooths out. Usually when i put gear to neutral and press brake then the rpm goes up and down. Really annoying. Gas mileage isnt great either and I think I smell gas now and then. Engine might pours a little bit extra in. I have to look into the fuel trims. But removing the intake seems to be a big job. Not a 15min Sunday job on the parking spot. :)

Would you get a check engine light if your PCV valve is bad?

Should replace the PCV while there, only $9 from Ford. Just be careful to undo the lock ring on the PCV valve, won't just pull straight up. Also, Ford PCV does not come with new oring to seal it to the block.

I have an after market cold air intake that I installed on my 05 focus about a year ago, it has been running great. The filter got dirty so I cleaned it and let it dry and then reinstalled it. As soon as I did I began getting mass air flow sensor low error. I tried replacing the MAF sensor with a new one and it runs worse with the new one even if I clear codes. I put the old on back, I can drive it but if I get on it too much it will try to stall, car restarts after I let up off the gas a bit. Driveable but not safe and I cannot figure out for the life of me what I did to break it. I literally took the air filter off, cleaned it then replaced it. I even bought a brand new filter on Amazon, cleared codes, still running. Any ideas on what I broke?

Where should I hook up my smoke machine to smoke out my suspected vacuum leak? I’m starting to believe my PCV valve is also shot but I want to use my machine first. Dig the video!

Yeah it's a pretty common problem with these. You can hook the smoke machine up to any hose that goes to the intake manifold. Or look down in between the runners at that hose and you may just see a crack in it without even having to smoke it. Thanks and good luck on the repair

take off the throttle body air tube and put the smoke hose and a thick rag in the throttle body opening. You will have to get the throttle blade open to get the hose past it. DO NOT use anything metal if you have to hold the blade open a bit. it can gouge the aluminum of the bore and cause metal to go down the intake, or can also contribute to a vacuum leak. I would suggest along piece of wood dowel, or hard plastic.

Is this part the same as a crankcase tube?

My moms car is pushing air out of the engine where you add the oil its pushing out air at a high rate is it normal.what can be the problem

Hey man I got a 2005 Ford Focus zx4 2.0l manual trans. Can the hose on top that goes into that rubber intake boot go bad? There are many places calling it the pcv hose. It’s Ford part “Kcv-159” but I feel that part isn’t that complicated. I got the same code and the car would shut off when coming to a stop and I could feel it reverse pressure. Pretty dangerous haha

Best way to check it would be using a smoke machine. You can make one or get one pretty cheap

As dang man I just looked with a flashlight and can see the hose ripped haha. Thanks for this video man. I’ve change the maf sensor, the iac valve and cleaned the throttle body so now I know forsure it’s the problem.

Yeah I mean it really depends on your region and what type of shop you had do it. I could see the price being anywhere from $150 to $600 depending on what kind of place does it. Prices are all over

Job complete Worst thing that happened is my coolant lines are leaking bc I pressed on them too hard I guess, and I found out that my previous pcv hose was twisted to be installed, I get it, it was tedious but how could we think twisting and kinking a breather tube is a good idea… multiple splices in it, might still have to replace my mass air flow sensor. I said fuck it by putting bolt number 8 back in, and I had no idea how to get the appropriate torque seeing as my rented torque wrench was humongous and would never fit in this highly flawed piece of engineering Just thankful it turned over when I was finished, previous worker cross threaded the bolts seems as if you kinda have to LMAO beats spending $300 homeless and unemployed. Ah fuck

I think my focus has a bad pcv not entirely sure.. i do know that 2 gallons of oil consumption in 5k miles isnt typical tho🤣

That PCV hose brand that you used is very bad the rubber on it collapses and it doesn’t do a good job keeping pressure on the PCV it will cause high idle

lean is to much gas not to much air

All the pcv hose's that look like this say it's not a fit for this car. Wth
