029: The Seleucid Empire - Seleucus I & the Foundation of the Empire
The founder of the Seleucid Empire, Seleucus I Nicator, had an extraordinary career. From a minor player in Alexander's campaigns to king of the largest realm in the Hellenistic world, we cover the origins of the empire in its entirety, taking us from administration in Babylon to the wars against Chandragupta Maurya and the Diadochi.

Thanks a lot, very very interesting. I am 60, for 54 years I am interested in history, but knew very little about the helenistic age. Now this gap is being closed in so great way

I have listened to this several times.
Seleucos was a badass, I'd argue he was more competent ruler than Alexander as he was loved by his subjects and his empire didn't die with him.

Very thorough and enjoyable. Well done.
Thanks for doing this. I've read about King Seleucus and his empire -- from J. Grainger's books, etc.
I've been lacking information about the Selucid Empire, me liking to play the Selucids in Total War Rome 1 and 2 it's refershing to get some background about it.

Seleucids are my favourite. I see them as the most loyal to alexanders legacy
2:12 oh hell there's a website! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The possibility that Seliucas I Nicator was fathered by Phillip II, is in play, here. The fact that there are'nt many mentions of Seleucas while Alexander lived, yet was a part of the inner circle and known by all the Companions hints at Seleucas being an un-official brother of Alexander. Phillip II was a well-known
weird that the few of us who find this fall completely in love with it and watch faithfully...most people dont know who or what it is.For me i learned about all this from the book of Daniel in the bible. The supposed 400 quiet years before Jesus Christ are covered by the hellenistic age.
Thank you for your work. Keep it up, is there a patreon account?

Thanks, I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Currently I don’t use Patreon, mainly because I don’t have any reasonable ways to reward backers beyond what I already want to offer to everyone in the first place (transcripts, no-ad shows etc.). If you’re interested in donating to help with the show’s upkeep and research, I have a Ko-Fi page for one-time donations (ko-fi.com/hellenisticagepodcast). I also have an Etsy page where I am selling show-themed bookmarks, so you can contribute to the show that way if you want to get some physical goods at the same time (www.etsy.com/shop/HellenisticAgePod).
Seleucus, one of the greatest and underated Macedonians and my favourite.
