Do you think a Honda civic could make it on that road? 😭 I am planning a trip to crested Butte and I have a roof top tent😅
It's a little rough. I'd take it slow and see how you feel.
Thank you so much for providing such detailed info and videos. This is so helpful for those of us outside of the area.
We were just up on the flat tops a couple of days ago. We were on the southern end coming up from Dotsero. This is our next, coming in from the northern end, looks more populated, but still amazing. Thanks for the video!
Coming from Dotsero is still on the to do list for us. Heading in from Meeker/Buford felt pretty remote. The Yampa side was beautiful but felt like we weren't far from town.
@@CampgroundRecon you will love that 10 miles of shelf road😂😳 Once on top, wow it’s beautiful! Don’t miss the Deep Creek Overlook!
@@Justcruisintrails Thanks for the tips!!
@@CampgroundRecon have fun! Quick tip, if you have the ability to air down it will definitely smooth out the ride. About five miles of the upper part of the shelf road is pretty slow, rocky and bumpy. Plenty of great dispersed camping and if you want a established campground, Deep Lake is really nice and $6 per night.
Hi, Seth Here. What date exactly was this video taken? The year is not important... Thanks, Cheap Enginearing Seth
My record keeping back then wasn't the best. I think it was early March.
Seems to skip most sites??? Audio?
You found one of our really bad videos. Echo Lake is on the re-do list when we go to record West Chicago Creek Campground.
Really appreciate this series. One of my all time favorite campgrounds. Was cool to look at again.
This is an incredible video. Love the mapping in the bottom right of the screen. This was super informative and helped me choose a spot. Thanks for the help 4 years later!
RV Dump Station ?
Silverthorne Water Treatment Plant is about 7 miles away
Woodson County State Fishing lake is another great one, and Cross Timbers State Park (known locally as Toronto Lake) is just a few miles west of the State fishing lake in case you need more amenities or a larger lake.
Spent a lot of time in the late 70's at Toronto and Fall River. Was out there briefly last September
Great informative videos, thank you!
Is there a fire ban there
I'm not seeing any restrictions on this interactive map from the forest service: usfs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=893541070a6746d98aa59615eb7a8067&folderid=68b4a2618b594ad09c8fa40fba211ab8
Is there a water source at himes campground that we can swim in?
North Fork White River passes by the campground. Might be able to do some wading if the water isn't flowing too fast
@@CampgroundRecon thank u soi much for your quick reply. Love your videos and your smooth voice giving us subscribers everything we need. Yr the best
Vail is the biggest joke in the state. It's been sold to all the idiots in a major marketing campaign. The place has I 70 going through the middle of it! If you love Vail, you're a moronic idiot.
is there a burn ban now
I'm not seeing one in this area. Here's one of several maps I checked: usfs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=893541070a6746d98aa59615eb7a8067&folderid=68b4a2618b594ad09c8fa40fba211ab8
I see that the sites include fire rings. Do you recall or know if there is firewood available nearby? For instance, in my last camping trip to Banff National Park, Parks Canada provided free firewood for use in the rings. They had a nearby lot filled with firewood that everyone simply pulled up to, in order to take firewood. They constantly kept it restocked.
The camp host will have some available for sale. National forest firewood prices vary but I would expect something in the $7 - $10 price range per bundle. Bring cash or check.
This was oddly recommended to me, even though I NEVER give out or search this spot! It's my "gateway" campsites to this and the surrounding Yampa area 🌲🏞🏔❤ *been coming up here annually since I was 14 years old, and I'm a few months from 54, now!
I'm always jealous of those that were able to see these beautiful places back in the days of paper maps and no cell phones.
I will watch every Kansas campground tour you make! Thank you for the video! Subscribed!
I should have another from Kansas very soon
Been there almost every summer since 2020, probably my #1 pick in the state for off roading. Trails are amazing. Doable in a 2wd quad bike
Love the drive-through video. Great Idea! I have a much great sense of the campground that what I could find from photos and Sat. views.
So helpful!
Nice ride through.
Thanks!
This is so very helpful to see the actual campsites and decide what to book. Thank you for this nice work. Kudos to you and happy camping!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! You pulled into site #8 and that's the one we reserved.
Glad I could help! Have a great trip!
Great. Thanks!!
With the contamination would swimming not be advised?
I wouldn't
@@CampgroundRecon thank you.. do you know of any free sites that can/will allow 6 to 7 tents near or around Alamosa? We have a really big group.
@@tiffanybaughman5523 Have you looked at Comstock and Rock Creek Campgrounds? If I remember correctly they are free too. Here's a dispersed area that is further away but still kinda in the Alamosa area: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYGt1bOhfLy_Xc4.html Penitente CG might be another that is free or low cost
Awesome thank you so much! I havent heard of either but will definitely check them out. Again thank you!
Hello, I enjoy your campground tours and reviews. I was wondering if you could recommend a few campgrounds that are next to or very near some decent creeks and streams for fly fishing. Thanks
Platte River CG and Lone Rock CG come to mind near the Front Range. Mavreeso and West Dolores in the SW. Lots of options along the Taylor River outside of Gunnison.
Do they have water hook up?
They have water but not hookups at the individual sites
It is a great place for bird photography as there are prairie exclusive species.
So interesting! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like a cool place for summer camping, thanks for the vid
Highs in the 60s and 70s this week. My kind of camping weather!
Stayed there this past weekend. Prices have gone up to $20 per night plus $10 per additional car. Management was nice, respectful and helpful. They were checking for OHV stickers on the trails. The site we were in was mostly clean and the fire pit and picnic tables were appreciated.
I appreciate the update!
Is wifi working at the campground? I would like to be able to play my healing music for sleep on my phone. ?
There was no cell service at this campground the last time we were there.
@@CampgroundRecon Thanks.
One of my favorite places on this Earth.
Love your videos. Could you please tell us what app you use to find the campgrounds? Thanks Sandy
We use a variety of sources. Mostly a list found on the USFS website, BLM websites, and MVUM that we pick up at ranger stations
That’s an Awsome place to see!
Are there showers?
No showers or flush toilets at this one
Can u clarify which loops are which
It's pretty much a straight drive thru this campground. After sites 1-17, you can exit to the highway or keep going past sites 18-33. There is a picture of the map in the video around 3:30
Dude you are the best source for campgrounds!!!
Glad you think so!
WE are going to camping in the Pike NF this summer. My son recently moved to Bailey,so we have a base.Your videos have been very helpful in choosing our sites. We only have two weeks to spend up there and there are so many nice campgrounds.
Thanks for creating & sharing !!! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!!!
the dispersed camping mentioned in the start and end of this video has been shut down by the USFS due to environmental degradation caused by people not camping in a proper manner and trashing the area
Sad. Thanks for letting us know.
I've seen some prety bad campgrounds in my time, Zapata is right there with them ! You're basically camping on the side of a dusty road no shade , no wind protection. Pretty much an RV / Camper trailer campground because I cant imagine being in a tent in this location. The amount of dust is endless !
It's not bad if you pull in just for the night. I stayed here in 2018 pulled in past dark and slept in my vehicle 😂
Thanks!! Was trying to figure out what site to reserve for an upcoming trip thanks so much for doing this. :)
Exactly why we do this. I remember trying to reserve our site here and there was no info available. Glad it was helpful!
I can't believe you did not show the ponds
I probably should redo this with the new cameras and drone. You can see one of the ponds for about 20 seconds around 7:11.
@@CampgroundRecon I apologize, I did not mean to be critical. I have a personal reason for wanting to see the ponds. I was there when I was 15 and there was an incident of kids throwing rocks at other kids and I wanted to see if I recognized the area. Your video was great.
@@larrycarver7889 No worries. Always looking to improve the quality of our videos. Watching older ones like this makes me want to go back for a redo
