    Would you recommend I budget turbo my 05 sentra 1.8S? I'm in Ghana. I bought it for 400 bugs. Strong engine with a faulty gearbox that slips from second to 3rd gear mostly. I have added at least 400 km to the mileage since I bought. I will be fitting a manual gearbox by the end of the year. My plan is to spend an extra $400 to put it in the perfect driving position while spending an extra 1k to modify it with a budget build. Do you think I can make 200hp on it?

  • @markernest2254
    @markernest22549 күн бұрын

    @@swugjay7189 200hp is a pretty good jump up for the 1.8, but on the other hand 200hp isn’t all that much hp for the amount of work and expense. If you can scavenge parts and fab a lot of it yourself, and you want a fun project, go for it. You can set out to enjoy the process regardless of the hp result. If your desired goal really is to have a fast car, well, maybe this isn’t the best use of the time and money.

  • @swugjay7189
    @swugjay71899 күн бұрын

    @markernest2254 oh okay. I want to use it as a first turbo build on a budget. So I'm planning on doing a lot of fabrication as some of the parts are very cheap to source in my country. Here in Ghana, a 2015 Corolla would set me back at least $7500, and i still won't have 200hp on the road. So, spending $2000 to $2500 to get anything 200hp sounds like a good deal and a learning process. What do you think?

  • @red_rabbit_specv
    @red_rabbit_specv8 күн бұрын

    Turbo is not cheap or easy. There is a lot of small stuff needed that adds up. I don’t recommend if it’s a daily driver. If it’s a side project car then go for it and have fun.

    Since I'm a Nissan guy going back to the 90's I'm going with Sentra's. they are easy to work on with the most consumable parts you mentioned in the vid. For example to change the spark plugs in an STI will take you about 30mins to an hr pending your tools and experience removing parts out of the way like the secondary air pump on the drivers side just to get to 2 plugs on that side of the motor, compared to 2-3mins max on the NIssan

    How difficult would it be throwing SVT rear brakes onto a SE sedan? I’ve got no how to’s anywhere.

  • @red_rabbit_specv
    @red_rabbit_specv16 күн бұрын

    It’s kinda a pain to be honest. I did a rear brake conversion recently on a zx3. I kinda wish I recorded it. First you need to replace the entire ebrake cable which means you need to drop the exhaust to get to it. Then you need to swap the hard brake lines going to the drum to flexible lines. It’s probably easiest to replace the entire assembly hub and brake. To get the assembly out it’s 3 bolts in the back side holding it on. I had to disconnect the lower arm and remove the rear springs to get easy access to it. Once the assembly is out just bolt the new one in and connect the lines and cables then proceed to bleed the brakes. Find me on Instagram and send me a message I will see what pictures I got.

    I have a 2017.5 Frontier SV 4x4. It definitely feels dated, but it’s solid and easy to work on. We bought ours in early 2021 with 59k miles for $21,500. We are at 95k miles. I changed the differential, transfer case, and transmission fluid, replaced the brakes, and threw on a set of cooper at3 4S tires. We have driven it from Ohio to Wyoming to visit my brother twice. On the second trip, we went west from there and visited Mt Shasta and Lassen volcanic region before heading to the redwoods. Since then I have replaced the idler pulley and belt, as well as the battery. The truck has created lots of memories and I’m considering making it my daily driver to get out of the loan on my other car. I drive 86 miles per day round trip, so the gas mileage is the only thing holding me back. Otherwise, our frontier has been incredible.

    @@M5LICE I need to make a video on choosing the right manifold for your build. The oem manifold isn’t that bad for most cases. B16 is good if your doing a high rev build, rogue manifold is good for turbo setups. Having the original dual runner is nice for a daily driven car. It does everything okay where the others are great for a particular purpose. So for example, of B16 manifold as the best power output at 7400 RPMs approximately. If you’re not up to that your car could actually be slower then going with a dual runner that will give you decent low and power and top end instead of giving you one or the other.

  • @red_rabbit_specv
    @red_rabbit_specvАй бұрын

    Depends. There is a slight benefit with heat absorption with the plastic manifold. Alot of it is just moving your power band and going from a dual runner to a single runner. To get the most out of it you need to raise your rev limit but that requires some work to do safely. There is also cheaper ways to accomplish the plenum swap. You will need to decide if the extra 2-5hp at stock redline is worth the 10-15 loss in torque down low.

    You pretty much can’t get new oem cables. The only option is to go with the cheap ones on Amazon and a zip tie to hold the one end from coming off. Also rarely the cable itself is the issue. It’s typically the bushings or cable ends.

    @@wishi201290 the 5lug and brake conversion was done by the previous owner. So all I can tell you for certain is what he told me and looking at receipts. The front has Altima ser calipers along with the 12.6 rotors. The hubs are from a base model Altima with 5speed trans. That is important to know because that is the only Altima hub that matches specv axels. There has been no mention or receipts of the knuckle being changed if I recall. Also side not my car is not abs equipped. I would think you could redrill the rotors and use the Altima rotors assuming the offset is the same on the hub. • @red_rabbit_specv
    @red_rabbit_specvАй бұрын

    That’s actually a good question to answer on a video one day. As far as reliability, there is a lot of variables to think about. Adding a turbo to a car that is 12 to 20 years old is not the best idea for reliability. But there is other factors like how you drive and how lucky you get with the parts you buy. For example, the eBay wastegate are hit or miss, but it is possible to take them apart and rebuild them to make it reliable. But at the end of the day you are adding more components that could possibly break and using cheap components on top of that and you’re also putting extra strain on an older engine that was not designed for a boosted application. There is quite a few people who have ran turbo for years with no issues and there’s others that blow up their engine within the year.
