    How do you ensure that the belt tension is correct when installing the new alternator?

  • @automotiveinsight
    @automotiveinsightКүн бұрын

    Technically there is a tension gauge. But I just feel the belt.

    I was driving in the Palm Desert in California yesterday (115°F) and my car threw this code. I’m going to attempt this repair myself soon. My question is, will running the car after connecting the tubes naturally clear air out of the system? Is there anything special needed to clear the system of air after installing the new pump?

  • @automotiveinsight
    @automotiveinsightКүн бұрын

    Keep the reservoir cap off and the reservoir full while running. After about 5 minutes, all the air will be out and out the cap back on.

    1960s engines are engineering marvels compared to the nightmares of needless complexities that have been added. Glad I chose an S type over an F. Not any more fun to work on but the ride is worth it.

    On 2:08 there's a black gasket that is not included on any aftermarket starters. Of course an after market is what I have, and I misplaced old gasket (long story). I went on and special ordered a new gasket from the dealer. My question is will it hurt if i put starter back on for a few days before getting gasket (I mean even the dealer found this gasket to be odd, but I'm sure it serves some purpose). Putting starter on and taking it off again is definitely more time efficient than shuttling my wife around for a few days 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Man I wish I would’ve seen this before I did my pump a few months ago. That bracket is a bit of extra work to take off, that bolt that goes to the body is in a tight spot. Not a huge deal but would’ve saved me time to just take off the pump and put new pump on the old bracket.

    Watched Topscan Review and found one issue with video. You stated it could still read and delete codes after subscription ends in one year and Topdon website says you cant. All other functions will lose access, including but not limited to the following: * Full system diagnostics * Read & clear fault codes * Read data stream * Bidirectional control * Maintenance * IMMO (Pro version) * Software updates

    I just changed the abs actuator and bleed the system and the same codes came back, c1256, c1252, c1253. It seems like the booster pump is the part that cant hold the pressure. I never had the C1391 code. I gambled snd lost, lol. Is it possible to replace pump without removing the actuator? I really want avoid having to remove all the brake lines, as one of the brake lines gave me trouble leaking.
