Since 2020 I have a SE Hollowbody II Piezo. And I am absolut in love with it. I want to say it plays at itself. With adding the Piezo, it´s possible to create unique outstanding sounds. It´s a absolut perfekt craftmanship too. The flamed Maple binding around is so beautyful, I cant keep my eyes from it. I Think PRS is fair. They have three price ranges, so everybody can afford a absolut perfekt guitar what fits to his personaly wishes. Thank you for sharing your insights 🙂

I have a PRS Custom 24 10 Top. This was a gift to myself for my 50th birthday. It has always been a dream of mine to have one. I am far from rich by any means. It is an amazing guitar all around. Do I think its worth the $5200 after taxes, that I paid? Absolutely not, especially since the majority of it is made with a CNC. But the going price for a high end guitar by all brands is absolutely crazy. Jackson especially, lost their minds with some artist models that go well over $6000. I have one other high end guitar, a Music Man Majesty 7 string. After that, I purchased all my guitars used with minor defects. I buy them for a steal and then mod them to glory.

That is the point. Some PRS players believe that if a for example a Gibson sounds or feels different from each other although they are the same model, that it is a bad thing. Which is not true. A guitar is a personal thing as on feel and sound. Example: you can pickup a number of Gibson Les Paul's and although all will sound like a les paul they may have a slight different feel and sound. Many people feel this is a good thing as you can find the one that talks to you, although I do see a lot of PRS players that feel this is a bad thing. Consistence is a good thing although if you do not like the sound of a PRS "" model and the "consistence" of PRS makes them all the same, then one may not like them. There are opinions and many times PRS players like to share their opinion in a way that is less than optimal. Bashing what some one else likes will not get the results one may seek. Unless that is just to insult. You are not doing that here and many do not but many PRS players do like to bash what others like. I have guitars of many brands including PRS by the way.

The preset sound is cool, yet a bit loud (in comparison to other customtone and marketplace presets - or my own), but that is easily adjustable with the output block at the very end. Nice and fitting effects, too. Tremolo can do the "Boulevard of broken dreams" beginning. I give you a thumbs up and a sub for just linking to customtone and not wasting my time with showing settings and letting me rebuild the patch myself. Nice!

You nailed it. My first PRS guitar was a 1994 CE24. Then I got a 2008 Mira (core Mira before the S2 factory). LOVED the Mira. It's so light & versatile and yeah.... they are consistent. I eventually wanted a second 2008 Mira & bought one eBay and had ZERO reservations about ordering it without holding it or playing it. Because the reputation with PRS is that they are consistent. I get why some people like Gibson's or Fenders & enjoy the "hunt" for the perfect one for them. I never felt that desire. I like that they are all workhorses, they stay in tune. The wood is sooo consistent from the get go from the factory. I live in the upper midwest. Temps over 100 in the summer. Temps down to 30 below in the winter. And I've NEVER had issues with my PRS guitars needing neck adjustments. For any musician who gigs, and can't afford a tech to take to shows, you can't put a price on a guitar that doesn't need constant tinkering to get it to stay in tune. Never had a jack not work. Never had soldering in the electronics fail. When I had my CE24 I owned it for 18 years and my only other guitar I took to shows was a super cheap Washburn Nuno model & I never played it. Because I didn't have to. I regret that I sold that 94 CE24 to buy the 2nd Mira. Which I also don't have any longer. I still have the 1st 2008 Mira. I also have a 2017 S2 Vela semi-hollow body. And recently have bought the SE Swamp Ash & the SE CE24. Which is nowhere as nice as my original CE. But that being said? If either of the Swamp Ash or SE CE24 were my only guitars? I could absolutely be happy gigging with either of them. The SE stuff has turned into a pretty decent line to get into PRS guitars, without breaking the bank. I've thought about selling them all and getting one really nice core body. But I'm not gigging anymore. And I like the versatility of having different guitars for recording. All 4 of my PRS guitars are very unique from each other.

Great video. USA PRS guitars may be expensive… but then, so is a Gibson Les Paul Standard these days. And Gibson is also coming out with more fancy flame tops to match the fancy PRS ones. I know there is a lot of hate for the SilverSky, and yet the haters don’t hit on the boutique guitar brands that only make copies of Fender and Gibson guitars. I have core PRS, Gibson, Fender and Gretsch and I love them all. They all have their own vibe. And horses for courses.

4 out of 10 guitars I currently own are PRS. 1 core, 1 S2, and 2 SE models. I had a 04 McCarty with a Brazilian rosewood neck. I didn't like the bridge pickup, so I got rid of it. So obviously, not every PRS is for me, but I think they are Great guitars. Not just for rich people, the SE CE 24 Satin was only $500, and plays/sounds as good as my 408. All played great out of the box never have to adjust the neck or file fret sprout every spring.

My 2 cents about PRS. I own 2 PRS guitars. An S2 single cut and a McCarty sunburst from the 2010’s. They are very consistent guitars. The build quality is ridiculous. The frets, the nut, the neck, the paint, the tuners all great. Even the South Korean ones are very consistent and built very well. You can pick an America PRS off the wall at any music store and they will all feel very high quality and will play perfectly. Compare that to a Gibson. I own a few Gibsons. I had to pick thru a lot of Gibsons before finding one that didn’t have flaws and was set up correctly. Warped necks. Bad neck pocket. Fret sprout. Rough frets etc. I love my Gibsons but it took some time to find them. In the past few years the consistency has improved a lot tho. My PRS McCarty is the best guitar I own. I usually switch out the pickups but not the PRS. It was perfect right off the wall. The only thing I’ve ever had to do is turn the truss rod a quarter turn once in a while. The PRS sound is definitely different from a Gibson. To me they sound clearer, cleaner, and more defined. They tend to have a sharper tighter transient on the note and sound more like a combination of a Strat and a Gibson. If you don’t like that then you won’t like PRS. They are expensive. I recommend buying used. But they are excellent guitars that will last decades without the hardware wearing out. If my house was burning I’d grab the PRS.

There is no doubt they are quality and versatile. I know Paul gives lots of straw man arguments over tone. My favorite guitar was built out of pine from a hardware store. I am Tele guy. Not sure why there such controversy. In reality a double humbucker guitar with coil taps can cover lots of ground sonically. That being said I prefer a single single coil with a lefty bridge to slant the pickup opposite. I guess I don't chase other tones, just the one that works for my style.

Having just owned and returned a EBMM Luke 3 and will be getting a PRS Studio in next few days I know that whatever PRS is doing is never cost cutting but always in pursuit of the best tone. There is something musical in PRS guitars that isn’t found in other guitars. My 91 Custom 24 was incredible. As was my PRS SE EG, which sounded and played better than many of my much higher end guitars. I firmly believe this falls into the camp of people talking about tone wood has not influence on tone. I happen to think it very much has an influence. Everything has an influence on tone.

  • @PNWGuitar

Everyone has their own thoughts, but it seems based on fairly scientific experiments I've seen/heard that most every aspect of the guitar has some effect on the sound. That being the guitar the pickups, wood density, construction method and material and of course the thongs you plug that instrument into. I tend to feel Prs has a high bar for quality assurance, and I think many other brands who use the same overseas production facility's do as well.

The frets are often uneven and just not very good. The hardware is cheap and so is the wiring. If you get a Epiphone for 700 bucks, change the hardware, wiring and pickups, replace the tuners.. bc let’s just be honest they’re not that good either.. might as well just get a Gibson.
