To stop cars parking on footways cars will have to be banned on the road network that is not designed to take them. Once you have banned cars, all the residents will move out and create a ghost town populated solely by unwelcome socio economic groups as well as those few that don't have or can't afford a car. Be careful what you wish for. its also worth enforcing legislation that prevents cyclists from riding on foot paths. One solution would be to have a a completely shared space without defining the road, the footpath or the cycle way. that way there will be no dispute and everyone ought to look after everyone else.

@@bestbehaveHighway Code also states that slow moving vehicles should move over to let faster traffic pass as soon as practicable. When I was younger and getting around by bike there were even public service broadcasts stating that it was dangerous to ride 2 abreast as it limited the space to pass and put you at risk of being knocked off. The current advertising is that it MAY be safer to ride 2 abreast or in the middle of the road going round corners. It doesn’t explain why or when this maybe the case though. Thus resulting in cyclists not thinking they should ride 2 abreast even though a lot of the time this puts them in more danger.

The red lights that you pass through serve a dual purpose, they protect both the pedestrian crossing and (as they are doing in the video) also protect the T junction where Cheap Street meets Market Street. In the video, the lights are showing red for you in order to allow cars travelling northbound on Cheap Street to enter the junction (watch the red Audi). You'll notice that the pedestrian lights are also red, signalling that it is unsafe for pedestrians to cross. On the question of "what are cyclists supposed to believe" that you pose at the end of the video, I fail to see how there is anything in this scenario that would confuse a cyclist or be subject to misinterpretation. Your lights were red, so you should stop. The lights in the other direction were green to allow cars onto the junction from Cheap Street. where does the confusion come from?

  • @stangreen2538

@@stangreen2538 The lights turn red to allow northbound cars entering the junction from Cheap Street to safely cross the lane you were travelling in. The lights are *not* exclusively for the pedestrian crossing, they serve a dual purpose as I previously explained. The pedestrian crossing is essentially irrelevant in this scenario.

It seems obvious that you cant know whether or not the light is red if you arent following a route past the light, i would suggest however that as you are equipped with a brain you use it and note that this bizarely designed single track over bridge is not dedicated to bi directional use by cyclists at any given time, and that the bus has to rely on its green signal as they cant see clearly over the bridge for cyclists coming out of the park instead of waiting for a green signal further up.

It is hard to tell if you are at fault here, but the bus driver did have a green light, and you do know that both sides have traffic lights, maybe it is better to enter the carrigeway at the bottom of the bridge? The owner/manager of the space also has the right to deny or approve permission to film or take photos. They also have the ability to ban you from entering them, if they wish. The Corn Exchange IS a private space and you had no right to film in there without permission. Also, you didn't have the right to film anyone in there without their permission. Stan, the issue with filming in churches is one of GDPR, as religious beliefs are a protected category. By filming anyone in the church (and I presume the grounds) you risk exposing their religious beliefs against their will and without permission.
