@PaulGreenVlog14 күн бұрын
Cheers, holding the camera is a valid point, but riding the skinner tyres generally doesn't inspire the same confidence. I was thinking.... Road surfaces continue to get worse too, so that will also be a fact as well as larger tyres having generally lower pressure. I can see another video coming!

I find it does always take a few miles to get used to a different bike, as it does. Mine are all 25mm tyres apart from the old steel winter bike which is on 23mm tyres. You have got bags of clearance on the PlanetX. Same as most of mine. Mind you, the old winter bike is probably a 2004 vintage. My favourite TCR is a 2016 and the same groupset, just with a different cassette on for up here. If it's wet I will grab a bike with mudguards. If there is salt on the roads it's a winter bike. That's about it really. I am fine in the wet with rim brakes, and that's even off Newlands pass with the 20%. No different for me on hydraulic disc brakes. However that could be down to an interesting thing I saw the other day.....hand strength. Could it be, that due to my occupation I have good hand strength so can put plenty of pressure on my rim braked bike. So the limiting factor is tyre contact. And that Is what I have always maintained, I can make the tyre skid just as easy on a rim brake in the wet as a disc. Who knows.

Definitely comfort for me. I'm sold on endurance/gravel geometry but prefer carbon to alloy. When I rode last year in Europe, I had a Dogma F which was a stallion of a bike but not great for long distances. The saddle is also important in moving from bike to bike. I bought my saddle and Canyon Flexi seat post to the UK last year and it made it feel very familiar which was good. I'm certainly glad that the craze of riding on ultra-thin wheels has passed and their advantage has been disproven. Many a cyclist will be happy for that. Just a shame that frame clearances were made for thin as well.

How right you are, Paul. Regular exercise over the years is the way to go. It is unfortunate, but a lot of what you can do as you get older often depends on sheer luck. If a person is dogged by illness, or maybe disability, or maybe damage from accidents, then the amount and type of exercise they can take can be limited. I am extremely lucky, in that at 92 years of age I have never had a serious illness or accident. I have the common problems of high BP and type 2 diabetes, but luckily they don't impair my activity. An avid cyclist in my yoof - I joined my first cycling club in 1948 - I later switched to squash, which I played until my retirement at 66, whereupon I took up road cycling again. I still ride my road bike - Lycra and all - but two years ago I finally conceded defeat to the hills around where I live, and added a small friction drive e-kit to help me out a bit. It has enabled me to get back on routes I had been avoiding, so has definitely been worthwhile. This has not been to blow my own trumpet - well not entirely - but more by way of an encouragement to others. If lucky enough to be able to do so, stick at it and you will be able to keep going a long time.

Good point, very well made! Would suggest a youtube channel "Always Another Adventure" by Simon Willis (if not already viewed) which has a very good series of keep fit/healthy videos specifically aimed at the older cyclist/runner/walker.
Yes. Simon has some great content. Very well made
Well said Sir. Great to see that cough under control at last x
yes definitely!
Top man Paul and well said regarding Julie and Mike. I completely agree with the outdoor and cycling thing it certainly saved me when I was diagnosed with CPTSD. So to sum up YEEHAH to Julie, best wishes to Mike and top man Paul and best wishes and god bless to all.
cheers,👍👍👍
Well said, Paul, and keep making them videos. It's a great area to ride a bike. I did a sportive from Hose village, lovely.
yes ... some great riding in that area. all the best
If lucky enough to be able to do so, stick at it and you will be able to keep going a long time.
absolutely awesome ! Thanks for sharing! Whereabouts are you based?
@@PaulGreenVlog I live in SW France now - but between 2000 and 2009, was more or less in your neck of the woods, living just outside Lincoln. Keep up the good work.
Well said Paul. Great video 👏👍🚴♂️
Thanks 👍
Completely Paul. Lovely gesture to wish Julie well. I think the last we heard all was well with the op and I have no doubt that her fitness will see her through. This year has been dreadful health wise for me. The desire to get back on the bike has kept me going, though it seems harder every time I have a set back. You’re not going to like it, but what has also really helped have been lower intensity rides on the trainer while watching the tv I watch.
Cheers Neil. I believe Julie is home now so that's fabulous news
Great video watching you from Ireland good health to you health is number one i am 63 on my bike every day great for your mind and general health.

Hear , hear , Paul

@@PaulGreenVlog I'm only kidding. You don't look a day over 61 mate......😜
Would you recommend this for commuting 10 miles a day 50 a week for a pretty big guy or go for a more expensive one
I think it should be fine. Just keep battery charged
I would think so.... Just keep battery charged
Hello Roy and Mr Green 😊
Hi Tonye! You found us!
Absolutely loved your video 👏
BE CAREFUL…!!! Audax can be very addictive. I started 2 years ago and I’m hooked. I blame Ricky lake for that. 😂 And now I ride stupid distances, rides through the night , and other Audax related crazy stuff. 😂😂😂 Thanks for taking the time to record and share. Take care. 👍👍👍👍
Yes... I can see how it could be a slippery slope!
Great video. You have left it a long time to lose your virginity haha 😂o
Thanks for the heads up about your vlog. 😂 I feel your pain Ian!! #cola. Very well done to you all 👏👏
Deja vu! X
Excellent, I plan to lose my Audax Virginity next month, so looking forward to it, looking at the course and time allowed, there no time for faffing around…well done all
Go for it! I really enjoyed. Which one are you planning to do?
