Hi cousin Jack. I was really interested & intrigued by your burnishing demonstration. I have never seen or heard of that before. I will try it. I do have a question. If you burnish a carving are you still able to paint it? I look for to following your tutorial on carving a wizard. The very first gnome I carved was by following your tutorial on carving a gnome. I have also carved along with you on some of your other tutorials. You are a great carver & a great teacher. Thanks. I enjoy both your KZread channels very much.
Hi Bruce! Thanks very much for your very kind comments and thanks for your question. I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying both of the channels! Yes, you can paint a carving after burnishing. You could also apply a varnish or use a finish like Howard Feed & Wax. Happy carving!
On your rabbit did you use any other finishes?
Hi Mark! Thanks for your question. I just burnished the cedar rabbit, no additional finish was used. Happy carving!
Another good video brother!
Thanks Johnny!

Very interesting show! The article on making a carving knife from the razor looks very interesting to me. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure, the razor knife instructions helped me make a knife several years ago. It’s one of my favorites! You can find vintage razors on EBay. I recommend searching for vintage straight razors that are in poor condition or damaged.

Hey Cousin Jack. This is so cool because today I was being taught how to make a carving knife from a straight razor by Andy Hiroshima. I can't wait until it's finished. As usual great information! Happy 4th of July! Thank you

Hi Sully! I have an OCC flat grind, it’s a good one for sure! The new Flexcut design looks a little like the Ron Wells knives. The picture only gives a limited glimpse so we’ll have to see.👍

I like Flexcut Tools, and have some of their knives and carving sets. It's hard to beat OCC tool's knives for the price, just a couple bucks more than Flexcut, plus OCC has a walnut handle. Thanks
Hi John! Thanks for your comment. In the picture that Flexcut shared it looks like the handles of the new knives might be walnut too. I guess we’ll have to wait for more information. Happy carving!

I have a DMT Wave I've had it about six months. I don't really care for it for maintaining tools, but for fixing a damaged edge it's pretty nice.
Hi Charles! I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts about the DMT Wave. Do you find that the abrasive surface is suited more for removing lots of metal?
@@WoodCarvingWeekly I have the fine and could definitely stand to have something more coarse, but right now I only see them selling the fine and extra fine. However, the fine at least helps to make a more consistent primary bevel with fewer muscle memory problems. Personally this is what I've struggled with most when fixing a carving gouge so it's a benefit to me.
Thank you Jack ..nevr heard of the DMT ..but thank you anyway ..God Bless you and love the channel
Thanks for your comment Gene. So far it seems like the DMT Wave is not a very popular product among woodcarvers. Happy carving!
Hello Jack. About a year ago, I came across the DMT wave while researching sharpening methods. The thing I disliked just seeing the picture was the changing curve. There is only one point of full contact for every tool. So I mailed the store to find out more. They had the one in stock for years and never sold a single piece. Like you, I found no useful information and didn't want to spend the money on it. Still don't see it as an upgrade to my leather coverd dowels to strop the inside of a gouge and the straight sharpening stone to hone the bevel. Hope there are viewers with more info.
Hello Erik! Thanks very much for sharing your experience and your insights. You make a great point regarding the single point of full contact and the limitations created by the wave width. Perhaps the DMT Wave is a mystery due to its unpopularity. Seems like very few people want/use the Wave. Thanks again for your comment and happy carving!
