  I did think along those lines and even asked around beforehand. It’s definitely not enough to get sued and it’ll look bad if they take any sort of action as Webflow are very anti competitive in the first place with their strict vendor lock in ecosystem.

  Great content! I love it! Just a quick question for you. If we compare the overall expense of running a CMS Website built with Web Studio vs Webflow, who would be cheaper? I get that Web Studio is opensource and costs is free, if not, very low. However, 3rd party integrations usually are not, compared to Webflow where everything needed is almost included in the pricing. Thank you for your insight! :)

  This is something to consider however the cost for CMS is anyways going to be lower. Take Airtable as an example. We are using the free version but even then the paid version is $20. Reminder also that you could build your own CMS if you have the capabilities which could be even cheaper again. With SaaS you’re almost always paying for convenience but then convenience is relative as a vendor lock-in like Webflow is pretty inconvenient when it comes to scaling a website. Something to consider if your project may outgrow Webflow.

  Great video. I'm a React noob, so this question might be stupid: Do you think it's possible to call a mySQL database (perhaps pull the data out as an API) and post the data in a Framer component? I'm trying to pull a bunch of concert dates out of the database and present them in Framer.

  You’ll need something (an API) to sit in front of the mySQL database but no problem fetching that from a code component.

How are the credentials handled given that the project can be hosted on your own hosting? In other words, is there a way to handle authorization on backend without exposing API keys on the frontend?

  Hi 👋 Can someone help me please ASAP I’m facing massive issues with my new website and after deciding to start a business I didn’t realise the cost which most agency’s charge today, so I picked someone to build it off fivver I found a stunning webflow template NIKKA which is basically 95% exact layout and font etc that I want HOWEVER It only comes with a few pages and is missing a order form, FAQ’s page and service page which needs duplicated 4 times for our 4 different services NOW the designer is saying these pages do not come with your template and I cannot create them ???? SO WHAT THE HELL DO I DO AND WHAT DO OTHER PEOPLE DO WHEN THEY NEED MORE PAGES TO ADD ON TO THEIR TEMPLATE The new pages need to follow the same design, font, etc CAN THIS BE DONE ?? Also is it possible to choose those pages from say another webflow template and use them ??? If I buy say both templates I’m not a website expert but this is causing me sleepless nights now and it’s starting to get me down as it’s been 9 months of hell I don’t have any money hence why I can’t use an agency so I’m trying my best with what I have but it’s becoming obstacle after obstacle Can someone advice me of best options please Thanks

  I've been hosting several Webflow sites elsewhere for years. The only caveat is the loss of CMS capability, but I understand that is even possible now with self-hosted Webflow sites.

  These web platforms with built in hosting are such a risk. Any serious web dev agency with a large number of clients wouldn't be using Webflow or any of the other all in one solutions. Not only can prices go up at any time, there is always a risk of the whole platform going down. Look what happened with Microsoft recently, it caused worldwide havoc. How many Webflow agencies have a disaster recovery plan? How are you going to move to a new hosting provider without having to rebuild the whole site?

  I think that the GDPR works well for the EU to collect fines. The whole GDPR and privacy policy and T&Cs things have gone too far. And I'm not saying that we don't need such laws and T&Cs. It is just not practical any more, it is too complex. The UK is out of the EU and still follows EU laws. It is about politics and not protecting people's data, who has the data has the power.

  I agree! No code is a convenience tool, not the future. But some people’s livelihoods rest on using them (and fair play) they just need to swallow the costs of that convenience.

  @@webflowandcode oh I agree but if your livelihood depends on any one of these maybe it’s time to at least diversify your knowledge base. Any technology can be a preference but it can’t be all you can do. I started programming in Flash & in those days it was everything but nothing lasts forever.

  Webflow's awesome for design, but man, it's kinda lacking in the backend department. So here's what I do: I split my process into two parts. First, I whip up a slick frontend in Webflow. Then, I use this secret tool (it's like Udesly, but way better) to hook it up to WordPress. Best of both worlds, you know? Funny story - I had this client who wanted everything done in Webflow. But then I tried to add a nested collection in the footer (just a simple dropdown with categories and stuff), and Webflow was like "Nope, can't do that in a component." Talk about annoying! 😤 WordPress, though? You can pretty much do whatever you want. No sweat. Anyway, that's my two cents. Cheers!

  I never trusted or adviced Webflow because of those low and hard to understand limits like CMS items which can make your bill balloon in no time. They locked people in and now Webflow is doing the squeeze. Clearly a company I will never trust

  I heard from a earlier client whom considered going Enterprise that the pricing would be about 60.000 NOK (about 5.5K USD) a month. Cannot confirm this, but he mentioned it on a call

  I think you are right regarding Webflow trying to push more users to Enterprise. I still love Webflow however and these bandwith changes has not really scared me (yet at least). The sites I have built is not even near the bandwidth restriction. Webflow has changed my career for the better. I am first and foremost a designer, Webflow has enables me to develop websites myself, really empowering my skillset!

  I’m getting more and more disappointed with the limitations of the editor for clients. Usingball kinds of workarounds. I used to make sites in Joomla and Drupal and Webflow seemed like a one stop shop solution. But as you state, I’ll need to keep investing in other tools as well. If only I had the time 😅. I took a look at Webstudio some time ago but it seemed still somewhat still in development. Can you you share if it’s CMS capabilities have caught up? And does Framer even have an Editor for clients?

  @@webflowandcode We've given up on Webflow a long time ago for many of the same reasons you mention and found success in Sveltekit + Strapi stack. I was also ready to say the Enterprise pricing is crazy then I thought at that level, as a medium to large company, it's not that bad. Considering you can get your internal marketers to launch campaigns themselves with WF Uni providing more than enough training to keep them going, not have to worry about infrastructure, not needing to bother the dev team to implement something, no need to be concerned about CI/CD pipelines, etc etc. Even one full-stack engineer on payroll costs more than hosting WF Enterprise. Is it really that crazy?

  Totally agree with you! Last year, Plans were already increased and only a small amount of people said something and now this. We must talk about these things and we need to be heard as a strong community this time because I think that Webflow is going against us.

  Isn't this just the nature of SAAS. All these SAAS companies have venture capitalists willing to float them, which allows them to initially offer their product at a really good price with a lot of features. As business clients become more intertwined with these products, it becomes harder and harder to move to a new platform since they've been designed with so much lock in. Then enshittification occurs and they can charge you whatever they want. I'm sure products like Framer will go down the same route over time (if it is even able to survive long term with all the competition in the space). I've been studying this stuff for the last year and a half or so and just about ready to start taking on clients. From everything I've researched, Wordpress is just a better platform than all these SAAS companies both for me as a designer/developer as well as for any potential clients. There's obviously downsides to Wordpress as well, but it not being an "all-in-one" solution actually seems like its biggest benefit. Any all-in-one solution inevitably goes hand in hand with lock in. The biggest issue with Wordpress is that the number of new websites being built with it has fallen off a cliff, which isn't great for its long term survival obviously. Most new web designers are choosing SAAS platforms to build with since the learning curve is much smaller than Wordpress, and they're locking in clients to these platforms without even realizing what they're doing.

  Slightly unrelated but though it might interest you > Shopify have been making moves in this space by acquiring a page builder called Utopia which from what I can tell is an open source project. If you google 'shopify hydrogen utopia' you will find it there! 😀Looks really good actually - I've been using Webflow for 2 years for creating Shopify store themes, so haven't been using Webflows CMS or any of those extra features that you pay for.

  These skills are definitely more transferable in the ever changing landscape of no code it doesn’t necessarily mean you can charge more. That comes down to your niche/clients. You could learn these skills and apply it to an industry that doesn’t care for these skills

  I've been building in Webflow for about 3.5 years and the more I do it, the less I like it. I came to a point, where there's nearly nothing more to learn in Webflow, besides workarounds for problems and limitations Webflow serves for no reason. I would put it that way: if you want to build websites - go for webflow, but if you wanna build exceptional websites polished in every aspect - learn actual coding. Currently falling in love with Astro and Tailwind ❤

  @@webflowandcode I would say there are limits even regarding marketing ones. In fact I build only marketing sites. I'm mostly talking about CMS, very bad components when we compare them to JS frameworks and small random limitations for no reason.

  I fully agree. As a software engineer considering a no-code tool for speed, Framer seems like the better choice. Webflow is similar to the mindset for coding but to me that makes it just feel limited, as I may as well code the website for much cheaper and have complete flexibility of what I create. Framer is a different style of app and different enough from coding to see it's advantages but also being able to write React components makes it a great choice. I've been trying not to like it and stick with code but I keep going back to it. It's a joy to use and the frequent updates keep you hooked

  I think there’s a misunderstanding in the platform. You might look to Pinegrow for this but you do not get access to raw files in something like Web Studio/Webflow and other similar.

  Thanks for watching! As I said in the video, this cannot be your main device. I’m similar to you in that I really do want it to be but it just can’t. You’d have a hard time in so many little areas. Watch my first video too. I had a hard time referencing a design AND creating in Webflow.

  It really is. Something I didn’t elaborate on is the filtering. This is great because you’re normally limited to a number of items the responses. If you can do the filtering on the server then instead of retrieving responses over a few pages or results and doing the filtering “our side” you can just do one request and filter the results.

  Hi Sam. I'm just wondering why you store the function on the window object instead of just creating a new object called functions? Both of these methods avoid polluting the global namespace, right? Or is there another reason? I'm hoping you didn't say why in the video and I just missed it! Great video though. I've only just discovered you so I'm excited to go through all of your Webflow videos.   Polluting the global namespace isn’t inherently a bad thing as we are further name spacing it as “WFModules”. This should be unique enough where you avoid conflicts. Pollution happens when it’s too simple. We’ve come a long way since this video however I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this solution though it might serve some purposes. Other options could be IFFE or using new type=module or even a third party service like Slater. Thanks for joining the ride!

  Hey, I am struggling with Webflow at the moment with images... If I leave "responsive design" enabled even when I upload largeish file size images (think 2MB 3200x1800) when I publish and put them on the web they look terrible... But I can go into photoshop and export the quality so they are now 500kb 3200x1800 and disable responsive design they look great... but I am stuck with a bunch of 500kb images at every breakpoint.... Is there a way round this with the HiDPI? or 2x?

  I had a lot of problems with this exact issue actually. Maybe search the Webflow forum and find my post but I think someone suggested wrapping the image in a div because that’s how it calculates the sizes. Otherwise, trying to use webp and dealing with a large image on mobile but using the most performant image format
