    Good video, thanks! I've got 220,000 miles on my 2011 GTI. It has the original chain/tensioner etc. and the dealer said my cam angle is '-5.95 which is out of spec (spec is +- 5). I don't have any codes or noticeable loud chain noises at startup or low power. I did just get new injectors after one injector stuck open which was expensive enough. I'm going to try and get rid of the car this year so don't see any reason to dump another $2500 into it to do a preemptive replacement of the chain.

    Okay, so my motor has 200,000km when i put it in, and it rattles sometimes on idle, more now. Thinking it could be the infamous fuel line rattle, but i’m thinking if the timing chain cover slaps up on my hands that might tell me to get a new tensioner. Keep in mind, it’s a mk6 but has a 2015 tiguan 2.0 from a manual transmission. Heard from vw head mechanic that if you don’t have sufficient oil, or check all the time it’ll score the parts, promote faster wear, etc. i’m already 4,000 into this motor because of a faulty balance shaft on the old one, i’ll be grandpa driving her until i save enough for a rs swap, bahaha

    My '13 mk6 is in the shop right now for this, 123k on the odometer and I noticed a metallic rattling coming from the underside of the engine during cold starts. Pretty sure that chain is stretched out beyond where it should be.

    At around 130k to 150k the following will come up sooner than later: - water pump - valve cleaning, walnut blasting - PCV valve and if you did not caught it on time, rear main seal - timing chain and tensioner - DSG Flywheel (clutch type automatic transmission, yes, will go bad) - clean injectors - intake manifold, is plastic what else can I say - balance shafts - oil pump - wheel bearings - (possibly, turbo and cat converter replacement) - (possibly, HPFP and intake cam lobe replacement) and of course the roof liner Bonus repair - piston ring replacement due to carbon buildup

    Rhetorical question but why the hell is the rear pcv hose that is back behind the turbo inlet pipe have a different clamp than the front hose? So frustrating got everything out but can't seem to get this funky clamp off. Although I could just replace the PCV unit the PCV kit came with two new hoses and the old ones are grimey af

    I went with the airlift performance 3p kit. Two compressors, a water trap, and an automatic electric drain kit. The drain kit allows you to purge water from the tank to the outside of the car at the push of a button. Also, the sound is pretty cool. My whole setup ran me approximately $3700.00. I paid a licensed airlift shop to install it for another $1400.00. I installed the drain kit myself. Many say to install it yourself but unlike this gentleman, I've had my setup for 2 summers and 2 winters with no air leaks, no issues, and the only maintenance is purging water from your tank every other week. Again If you have the electric drain kit - all you have to do is push a button. Air suspension is not maintenance heavy and if you're running into a lot of leaks it means it was installed improperly. The installation is very very important. It is going to make you hate or love air suspension. I recommend paying a professional. Trying to save money doing it yourself may cause a lot of headaches and end up costing you more $ down the line.

  • @Wynot

    To each their own. $5,000 on a car that’s now 10 years old++ to change suspension is the absolute high end. As I said if you want the best you gotta pay for the best but it… comes at a cost. I’m not making videos for people with deep pockets.

  • @blkeclipsel2400
    @blkeclipsel2400 Жыл бұрын

    @Wynot That's a very valid point! 5 grand for an old vehicle suspension is an awful lot. The vehicle would either have to be a sought-after antique worth a lot of money or a relatively new vehicle for most to justify spending that kind of cash. No disagreement there. However, any and every aftermarket modification can be seen as a waste of money to anyone outside the automobile community and I've seen bags on vehicles worth less than yours. It's still a nice car and it means something to you. Your video was accurate and honest. You explained the difference between slammed and performance series. You mentioned that you've installed it yourself and you openly addressed the issues you have been experiencing. I just felt it was important to clarify that these issues aren't as frequent as you inadvertently let on If installed correctly. It could put someone off on the whole idea of going with air suspension. I don't have deep pockets but I do have little patience. At least not as much patience as you. When faced with the same decision - I felt that $1400.00 for professional work and a warranty isn't a lot of money if it means saving myself from having to constantly fix errors on a component that has the potential to leave me and a new vehicle stranded somewhere.

  • @blkeclipsel2400

    @@mrwilliams7086 if you're getting airlift suspension, you can go to their website.They have a search feature to locate an authorized dealer/installer in your area. That's how I found my installer. I don't remember if airlift sells directly from their site as I didn't make the purchase until I paid the installer a visit. He was able to order it for me .

    Looking at buying a 2012 GTI. It's very clean, very well taken care of. They put a new alternator , battery and charge cable in it, replaced the intake manifold, supposed to have new plugs and coils. Car drove great on the test drive but the power was underwhelming. No lights, no missfire, car drive smooth. But with me and my fiance in the car the 0-60 time was 8 seconds. Her Kia Soul turbo is faster. Wondering if the dealer put 87 octane in it. He said their mechanic checked the chain slack and said it was good. Any idea about the low power?

    You forgot to mention to check via the low timing cover plug. It gives access to the timing tensioner, about five teeth or more, time for a new one. Have the mechanic install the revised chain tensioner and upgraded chain, and if possible upgraded chain guides.
